Experience Eugene - Your connection to the community! - 2 views

  •
It's a resource to find music concerts and performances, theatre events, festivals, art events, recreations events, fundraising events, sporting events, and community events in Eugene
  •
This website is absolutely FANTASTIC! I honestly have had a hard time fulfilling my role as a community member since moving to Eugene. A came here not knowing a single person and starting to attend community events is something I am really looking forward to doing. This really will help me further connect with the community. I also loved that the site did not just have one genre of arts to attend but a multitude of them as well as recreation. All combined together to help express and allow submergence into Eugene culture.
  •
Great resource for finding out what's going in Eugene. Helps to get involved and connect to the community.

The Urban Institute | Arts and Culture Indicators Project - 0 views

  •
"The fundamental goal of the Urban Institute's Arts and Culture Indicators Project (ACIP) is to help policymakers make better decisions for neighborhoods and cities. To this end, ACIP provides researchers, practitioners, and policymakers with information about the presence and role of arts and culture in communities-how arts and culture affect neighborhood conditions and community dynamics. Specifically, ACIP develops quantifiable measures of arts and culture and integrates them into quality of life measurement systems that can compare conditions across communities and in the same community over time. Launched in the late 1990s with support from the Rockefeller Foundation, ACIP's basic premises are (a) that a healthy place to live includes opportunities for and the presence of arts, culture, and creative expression, (b) that arts, culture, and creative expression are important determinants of how communities fare, and by extension (c) that full understanding of U.S. communities is inherently impossible without including these important perspectives."

Chicago's Opportunity Artist - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  • What’s far more interesting,” he says, “is what compels someone known for making art to want to do this and how savvy they have to be to get it done and what sort of difference it makes.
  • Gates sometimes describes his work as reimagining the possibilities of “black space.” Could a block of decaying two-flats well beyond the city’s cultural and economic hubs be converted to form a new creative cottage industry? Could artistic types be drawn there and made to think of themselves not as gentrifiers but as entrepreneurs with a stake in the African-American community?
  • Gates may be performing the archival functions of a major academic institution, the social programming and physical redevelopment of government (his team hired 14 guys from around Dorchester to carry out the gutting of the bank), but he’s doing this in a way that satisfies his own aesthetic appetite and follows the peculiar byways of his imagination
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • The art practice most akin to what Gates is doing, and to which he often refers, is Project Row Houses. In 1993, Rick Lowe and several other African-American artists renovated a string of abandoned shotgun-style homes in Houston’s Third Ward, turning them into artist residences, setting up community-arts programming and later opening transitional housing for single mothers. They based the enterprise on the German artist Joseph Beuys’s concept of social sculpture, the idea that a work of art could be a practical social action
  • Gates believes the “cross-training” has helped expand his thinking about what art is.
  • There are the teenagers on the block paid to clean up, the ex-con who began as a denailer of salvaged wood, Gates’s nephew apprenticing at the workshop. Rebuild Foundation, Gates’s studio and the University of Chicago Arts Incubator together have a full-time staff of 20 — most of them in their own right artists, curators, art historians — and those people manage others.

Thank you for sharing this link. I really enjoyed watching this video! It gave so many different aspects of art and it helped me how to give a definition of art.
  •
Interesting sharing! I really like the way it's talk about art with a humorous cartoon. It brings me wilder thinking about the implication of art and how to classify and define art works.
  •
Interesting video. Really makes you think about what art is in a different way. It made me think outside the box.
  •
Thank you! That was hilarious, but at the same time... thought provoking. I very much agree that art needs to elicit an emotional response or a narrative. It's got to move the viewer in some way...as far as I'm concerned, anyway. And who doesn't love Creature Comforts?

That's an awsome video about what art is! I like the way how this video describe what art is and the relationship between we and art. It makes me start thinking about virous posible way to creat art!

Here is the website from CNN.com, which provides tons of art works and performance. With these, it may allow us to explore more what we seek to define Art World.
  •
This site is great! Found myself browsing for a while and enjoyed all of the different types of dance and art that it supplied. The range of style and background is entertaining and I was able to use this as inspiration for a possible art world.
  •
This is very useful website to search and find the performances. Yet is it also reports news from a expand world narrative not just a art performance. It is definitely can help me to write the assignment next week to define an art world.

How Much Do Music Artists Earn Online? | Information Is Beautiful - 3 views

  •
inforgraphic from 2010 illustrating where musicians make money (and how much) in the digital era..
  •
I'm particularly interested in this because I'm going to be starting a small record label with some friends this summer, and while we can predict the profitability of a certain distribution medium from a consumer's point of view, having the data laid out like this is very helpful.
  •
I was always curious about it. The article was written in 2010 so I think musicians must earn more than in 2010.

PicLab HD for Apple Products - 0 views

  •
PicLab HD is a nifty app for creating those inspiring images that you get all over the internet these days. You know, the ones featuring a photo - probably with at least one retro filter applied - with a helpful aphorism layered over the top in an attractive, friendly typeface. Yeah, those. PicLab HD makes them an absolute doddle, enabling you to either snap a photo or grab one from your photo library, then go to town on it. As well as adding typography - lots of fonts and full control over size, positioning, opacity, rotation, and colour - you can also layer illustrations, ornamentation and other design elements on top of your image. PicLab HD features full layer-based editing and also packs plenty of tools for making your original photo look its best, with loads of lighting and film effects to choose from as well as preset photo filters and adjustment tools for fine tuning the brightness, contrast, exposure, saturation, and the blur level of your photos.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - 0 views

  •
Super bright, feisty eight-year-old Alice Quivery challenges the strictures of Victorian society by happily following a pocket watch-toting White Rabbit down a magical hole into the quirky world of Wonderland. Help Alice as she tromps through a fantastical forest and struggles to grasp nonsensical celebrity Tweets, learn hip hop dance moves, and win a battle of wills with a Hatter who considers Twilight a serious work of nonfiction. Appropriate for all ages, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland powerfully recasts the beloved children's classic by artfully infusing Victorian mores with modern popular culture.

The Pocket Playhouse - 0 views

  •
The Pocket is a student run organization that helps students craft their artistic visions on the stage. Each quarter, roughly 4-6 shows are produced in the Pocket, completely under the direction and operation of students. Many productions are original, some are new renderings of old classics, and some are obscure offerings seldom seen on stage, but they all come from the vision of directors, actors and designers just like you! The Pocket Playhouse aims to provide an arena for students to get involved in all aspects of theatre regardless of prior experience.

I played in a small group of strings and percussion with a pocket play, once! It was definitely a unique experience.

It helps me understand how art can be engaged in different kind of art.
  •
there is no boundary in art.
  •
Art can be expressed in many different forms. Dance turns into art when the dancer (or artist) uses normal moves and makes them extraordinary by telling a story with their choreography.
