By some estimates, one in two people will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives, as opposed to one in twenty people fifty years ago. This increase in the incidence of cancer is quite daunting. So, if you are a Yoga practitioner and you are facing a cancer diagnosis, you are clearly not the only one. However, even if you are not alone, dealing with cancer can be very overwhelming and incredibly upsetting.

Teaching Yoga for the Endocrine System - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By Jenny Park Why should teachers have to learn anything about anatomy? Why should yoga instructors care about the endocrine system? Believe it, or not, some interns in yoga teacher training don't understand the importance of learning the basics of body mechanics. Some teacher trainings don't address the significance of the endocrine system at all. Therefore, let's cover some of these basics together.

Yoga to Reduce Child Violence - Yoga Instructor Blog - 0 views

  •
By Sangeetha Saran One of the most important and significant lessons that a Yoga instructor teaches his or her students is the healing potential of Yogic methods. By healing potential, I mean the ability to transform one's negative situation. That could be a feeling, mood, emotion, thought or physical pain. Yoga has proven itself to be an effective means of exercise, spiritual rehabilitation tool, stress reducer, and a great method of reducing one's negativity. However, in addition to transforming negative emotions or thoughts into positive ones, it also has the ability to help children at many levels.

Hatha Yoga Classes for Arthritis Pain Relief - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By Dr. Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500 Gentle forms of Hatha Yoga can help anyone who suffers from arthritis. Depending on the type, stage, and where arthritis is located in the body, a Yoga session will have to be modified to match the needs of the student. This can make the search for the right Yoga class, and a compassionate teacher difficult, at best.

Battling a cold is a strategy and may require contacting your physician. Yoga might not help you build a better mousetrap, but it can help you with battling a cold. The congestion, fatigue, headache, and sore throat, which accompany the "common cold" can keep people at home all year round. Beside drinking plenty of fluids, and getting enough rest, try some of these asanas for symptom relief - and even an ounce of prevention.

The Psychological Benefits of Yoga - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By Dr. Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500 Are there any psychological benefits to be gained from Yoga practice? At this point in time, most individuals, outside of India, view Yoga as a physical activity more than anything else. This is partially true; Yoga has extensive benefits for the physical body, but these may be outweighed by the positive effects on the psychological state of the practitioner.

Teaching Yoga Outside Fosters Mindful Breath Awareness - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By: Virginia Iversen, M.Ed. How can your students learn to apply mindful breath awareness to life? The warm, balmy months of summer easily lend themselves to teaching Yoga classes in an outdoor environment. Traditionally, Yoga postures and breathing exercises were practiced outside, or at least within the natural confines of a cave, grove of trees or on the banks of a river. Most of the traditional sadhus of India practiced Yoga in tandem with either the dawn or the dusk hours. The reason for this was that practicing Yoga in alignment with the rhythms of the dawn and dusk hours helps to facilitate a deep connection to the natural world.

Yoga for Young Athletes - Yoga Teacher Training Blog - 0 views

  •
By Faye Martins How can yoga help young athletes? The American Heart Association recommends that all kids ages two and over participate in at least 30 minutes of medium-intensity physical activity every day. Children enjoy physical activity, and many get involved in competitive sports, but more and more, parents and whole families are coming to see the value of cooperative activities. Yoga helps children increase balance and body awareness, and relieves social pressure from trying to "win."

Options for Yoga Teacher Continuing Education - Aura Wellness Center - Yoga Instructor ... - 0 views

  •
By Jenny Park It is such an accomplishment to complete your first teacher-training course. Unquestionably, making the decision where and how to become certified was no doubt a major one. You had to choose whether it would be online, local, abroad, intensive, or spread out over several months or years and cost was certainly also a factor. Therefore, at the end when you completed the education, you probably exhaled a sigh of gratitude and relief, while mentally checking the achievement off the list in your mind. Nevertheless, remember the education is never over.

Yoga Teacher Training: Yoga School Etiquette - 0 views

  •
By Rachel Holmes If a yoga teacher has taught classes for any length of time, he or she will have at least one story about a student who struggles with in-class etiquette. Fortunately, most practitioners have no problem catching on to the generally unspoken rules of a studio that other students' behavior makes apparent. On the other hand, it not uncommon to come across that one student who seems oblivious to the codes of conduct others are following.

Generating Enthusiasm in a Yoga Class: Music - Aura Wellness Center - 0 views

  •
By: Virginia Iversen, M.Ed. Is music generating enthusiasm in your classes? There is nothing quite as unsettling in a Yoga class as showing up for a Power Yoga class and having melodic new age music playing in the background, or attending a Yin Yoga class with hip hop music playing at a high enough volume that you can feel the reverberations through the floor boards. As a Yoga instructor, a very simple and straightforward way to generate enthusiasm in your classes is to choose appropriate musical selections that match and enhance the postures and breathing exercises through which you are guiding your students.

By: Virginia Iversen, M.Ed A balanced routine of Yoga poses will strengthen all of your muscles and ligaments. Engaging in a comprehensive Yoga practice several times a week will help to keep your body limber and your skeletal system in correct alignment. There are a number of very effective ways to improve core strength by practicing asanas that specifically target the abdominal muscles. Although many Yoga poses help to increase core strength, specific asanas, such as Plank Pose and Navasana, are very effective at trimming your midsection and increasing core strength.

Specializing Versus Generalizing as a Yoga Instructor - 0 views

  •
By Kathryn Boland, E-RYT 500 Recently while enjoying hot coffee and a good book at a local Panera Bread café, I heard another patron say to his friend (something to the effect of, I'm paraphrasing), "You say you're in this special area, specifically, and they say 'You're the guy for this'. " His comment got me thinking about being a "specialist" versus being a "generalist" as a yoga instructor. I believe this consideration is an important one in the profession because of yoga's countless number of "schools" of thought and styles - from Kripalu to Bikram to Viniyoga forms (and that list certainly continues).
