Aries, Elizabeth, et al. "A Comparison of Athletes and Non-Athletes at Highly Selective Colleges: Academic Performance and Personal Development." Research in Higher Education 45.6 (2004), 577-602. This study focused on student athletes for four years at selective liberal arts and Ivy League schools. It said students spending ten or more hours had less academic credentials than non-athletes, but were not lower than expected for an athlete. It talks about engagement in the community, sociability, extroversion, drinking, and academic performance of both athletes and non-athletes.

Even though it is an old article it stills has great ideas on how groups of people can communicate. Good source for the communication between teams.

According to employers, a student's knowledge in intercultural issues will almost automatically increase their employability. Employers like to see applicants who have a well-founded understanding of the role of culture and cultural differences in society.

This article asks the question of how schools define "winning" with their student-athletes. Should it be a diverse person with all around success, or is it excellence in a singular sport? The truth is that people are now trying to focus on one sport in order to gain a scholarship. The problem with this is that it draws the student athlete away from other valued activities. The desire to specialize conflicts with many schools' core values.

This study is about International students at the University of Toledo, they represent 10% of the total number of students (16,000 students). the university made an online survey for international students, because the university wanted help them overcome those barriers and make them feel home. this study cover a lot of issues that student face everyday English language problems, financial and readjustment with the campus life and the whole academic life. it also gives us an idea about how the university helped them with those problem and guided them through the process.

It discusses how although a student usually isn't drinking while doing their school work, the hangovers that occur after drinking cause alot of the problems. It also touches about the effects alcohol has on a college student's health, for example drinking causes weight gain. The final topic the article discusses is how alcohol creates a major distraction and causes students to focus less on school.

The article talked about how by learning and singing songs they are learning literacy and exploring ideas that are not brought up in the common classroom, such as creativity in the art.\n"Whether children listen to the ''music'' of the rain, popular chil- dren's songs, or make their own musical compositions, important skills, such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking are developed. In an early childhood classroom, a musically, literacy-rich environment will generate interest, encourage creativity, and set the stage for a positive learning environment.

Web. 21 Nov. 2010. Bullying has taken on a new form as it has started to occur through the Internet and cell phones and has begun to be known as "cyberbullying." This article focuses on a study in which students of secondary schools took a survey on how often the had been bullied through electronic means. In the first study, phone call and text messaging bullying were most frequent. In the second study, phone call and instant messaging were most frequent and text messaging next. Both studies discovered that cyberbullying takes place more often outside of school than inside school. This can be stopped maybe by informing parents more and including this topic in education.

In this study, the health of college students was measured in several different categories. The article explains the technique for determining the different aspect of the students health.

Rosner, Beth A., et al. "Social Competence in Persons with Prader-Willi, Williams and Down's Syndromes." Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities 17.3 (2004), 209-217. This is a study done on people with genetic intellectual disabilities. The purpose was to explore their everyday social competence. 65 of the patients studeied were those with Down syndrome. Out of the three disabilities, the Down's syndrome group showed the highest overall social competence scores. They found that the age of the patients was also a factor.

Kasari, Connie, et al. "Parental Perspectives on Inclusion: Effects of Autism and Down Syndrome." Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders 29.4 (1999), 297-305. Using the child's diagnosis, age, and current educational placement, a study was done to observe the effects of these factors on parent's perceptions of inclusion for their child with disabilities. Parents in the study filled out surveys asking questions on how they felt about their childs current educational situation and views on inclusive programs. The studies showed clear results. Parents of patients with Down syndrome showed a significant difference in support of inclusive programs over parents of children with autism. Age also played a role.

This article is about first year college students going to writing programs to better on their first papers. Studies have shown that tutor strategies are more effective during first year of college. These studies also show that tutor's transfer their teaching skills to their peers. This study was done with an education yet personal role throughout all tutors in the case study.

This article also discusses ways to integrate global perspectives into studies and the challenges that educators face.

Respondants of the survey taken showed that in the thirties and fourties that if they were attacked by more than one abuser and did not discuss their abuse within one year of the attack they had a greater number of mental health symptoms. The clients who are at higher risk of mental health symptoms should be assessed by professionals.

Colleges have better organization skills, thus, the better outcome in grades. The effects of tutoring are positive but also stronger than individual attention from a teacher. With a tutor, it's more personal and you are not just a student to the teacher.

This article is about how not only peer tutoring is effective but so is group tutoring. It enhances the tutor and tutee both in the subject. Not only does it improve grades in the subject, but this article states that it can help with the social and pyschological aspects of the tutee. It lets the student know that they are getting one on one attention.

It was based on schools such as Texas Tech that have actual course at their institution that is based upon financial literacy and the knowledge of spending one's own money. Texas Tech is one of many schools that have a class like this one. The class in itself teaches students proper spending techniques. The purpose of the class is to teach students how to budget money, save when the time is right, and to buy only things or items that they can afford.

One reason for a decrease in Braille reading is the improvement of medical technology. There are more children today that are become visually impaired due to an accident and these children more than likely have multiple disabilities. These children's primary handicap is not listed as a visual one therefore it seems that children with visual impairments may be declining, and with that goes funding for Braille programs. Another reason is technology. It is easier today to convince Americans that technology is a better means for a visually impaired person to communicate than Braille. Also, there is discussion over many people turning to technology to communicate because learning Braille is difficult and time consuming. Finally, this article gives hope that these issues will be more widely recognized in the future.

Article talks about a 12 week study with students rangeing from 16-17 yrs old. It goes on to talk about the effects that music had on them and the comments made from the psychologist and educational researchers. Talks about how music therapy works, informs the therapeutic benifits, and talks about therapy within a school setting.

This article revolves around physical education and the importance of its development. It connects literacy and physical education and explains their importance together. It also gives a large amount of information about cultural literacy in relation to physical education.
