Gaad, Eman. "The social and educational impacts of the first national Down Syndrome support group in the UAE." Journal of Research in Special Educational Needs 6.3 (2006), 134-142. This is an article about a study done on UAE's first Down syndrome support group. The goal of the group was to correct peoples thoughts on persons with Down syndrome. They found that the group was very beneficial, especially for children. People gained knowledge on Down syndrome and those with Down syndrom built their social skills. It also helped to promote acceptance.

This article is about the Husky Sport Nutrition Program at the University of Washington. This program is offered to the college athletes at the university. The program offers life skills assistance to student-athletes. In addition, the program offers a sports nutritionist who is an educator, counselor, and administrator for the athletes. This provides athletes with accurate information on healthy eating behaviors for optimal performance. Furthermore, the program offers a multidisciplinary team to prevent and treat eating disorders.

The survey concentrated on what types of activities parents engaged with their child. The survey found that it was important for parents to read out loud to the children because it helped them understand "book related" concepts. Concepts such as turning the page, reading left to right, and understanding that books relay a message. This article also states that a parents cannot offer the support their child needs without professional help. Often times parents want to read to their child, but find that they don't know how to go about it, or even what books they should read to them. The article lastly states that parents should also learn Braille. This will open up more opportunities and experiences that a child can have. An experience such as having time as a family to learn Braille and make it a more fun and enjoyable experience for the child.

This article was written on a study done on the affect of social support on limited-literacy patients and there willingness to get help when it comes to reading instructions on their medication and, basic health literacy. What they found out was that unless there was someone they could trust imensly, they would not seek help when it came to understanding directions, or getting info on health literacy.

This article does a good job of explaining why supporting the arts may do more than just enrich our souls, it may enrich our wallets too.

Pogrebin gives both sides in the debate over whether the arts really influence academics. She gets perspective from recent research and mainly the experience of two art teachers and co-authors of a book on the same topic. The article is mainly composed of quotes from the two authors. They explain how important the arts are, and how some people support the arts because it helps build skills in other areas. They support that this could be true but that art should be valued in and of itself, and therefore should always be existent in education.

This article focuses on how ICT's (information and communication technologies) have transformed reading, writing, and education. Written communication has become less formal and the syntax and layout has changed. However, technology has enabled students to engage in "creative and collaborative communication." It has also enabled the practice of writing through everyday activities such as texting. The Internet, especially, and cell phones can be used to facilitate learning when incorporated creatively into the classroom.

They carefully observe a handful of Boston art schools to find exactly why art is so important. Going in depth to support each claim, they use specific scenarios from their fieldwork.

This article tells of how reading out loud, having family outings, and encouraging independent readings can help develop blind children's literacy skills. These help the children to build and better understand stories; as well as learning to "paint pictures in their heads". Finally this article provides some suggestions to parents of children who are visually impaired. Some suggestions include: Encouraging "pretend reading and writing", designating a certain spot in the home just for reading, and learn Braille alongside their children.

It tries to support the notion that most times these international students are coming from poorer countries and as such the influx of resources, both financial and intellectual is escaping those country's into the host country.
