This article explains the effects alcohol has on a person's health, both the positive and the negative. It discusses the negatives alcohol has on the body and mind but also the positives it can have on the heart. When discussing alcohol usually only the negative side is discussed, this article gives a different viewpoint of the topic.

It explains how the two are able to handle certain things and how it affects their mental health. It also shows the positive and negative affects on eating between the sexes. It is shown that trying to be healthy can have a bad impact on a person as well.

It gives examples on both sides of the argument of if technology does or does not affect literacy. This will help me whether I choose the positive or negative side for how technology affects literacy.

This paper investigates gender differences in academic performance among university athletes at an NCAA Division I school. Using regression analysis, the findings suggest that background scholastic achievement variables and race influence university academic performance for student athletes, but sport participation measures and race are negatively related to university academic performance for males only. The consequences of inequalities between men's and women's athletic programs are explored. Implications for academic programs are discussed. (Abstract from author as it appears on EBSCO.)

A study was performed that evaluated the effects of sending text messages and using the Internet right before bedtime on children. The researchers at the Sleep Disorders Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J found that the use of these technologies right before bed can have negative effects on kids' sleeping patterns. These then impact their daytime functioning and psychological health. This lack of sleep results in poor cognitive functioning and disorders such as ADHD. The amount of texting and online use before bed should be limited and monitored by parents.

Wiley Online Library. Web. 3 Nov. 2010. This article is talking about the results of a study that was done among college aged women. It was to see the effects of media images on their body image. It was done with 110 undergraduate women to see what they thought about the images the media was projecting toward them and how it effects how they see themselves. It was also done to see what would help stop this from continuing to happen to these young women. Throughout the study it was shown that with the help of this "intervention" the women began to question whether or not the images were really what ideal beauty looks like. This shows that through media literacy something like this can be stopped and women can feel better about their body image.

This article talks about the advantages some autistic people have that others don't realize. Autistic people have what is diagnose as "triad of impairments". These impairments are in communication, social interaction, and imagination. Researchers have studied that autistic people, although think differently, think in a better way. Some ways that autism is looked at as an advantage is in memory, thought process, sensitivity to musical pitch, strength, and more rational decision making. Autistic people are better at 3D dimension and are able to do tasks quickly and more efficiently. They do not have a theory of mind, meaning they cannot distinguish the difference between truth and lies or understand that people have different beliefs to yourself. This article is trying to explain more positive sides of autism, rather than the negative.

Pace, Jill E., Mikyong Shin, and Sonja A. Rasmussen. "Understanding attitudes toward people with Down syndrome." American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A 152A.9 (2010), 2185-2192. This is an article about a study done on attitudes towards people with Down syndrome. They used two sets of samples, one of people 9-18, and another of people 18 and up. The results for the two studies showed simmilar results. The majority of children and teens showed negative views on those with Down syndrome. The results were no different for adults 18 and up.

This is an informational and awareness website for college students and their parents.

Living in a post 9/11 society, it is important to educate in order to correct global misunderstandings about the Islamic religion. The failure to teach Islam as a world religion has resulted in ignorance about the role of this religion in world history. Scholars have criticized that the misunderstandings about Islam, and present global conflicts are due to inaccurate media portrayals and the lack of education within schools. While Islam is a peaceful religion, the media has been shaping a negative stereotype of associating Muslims with violence. This article focuses on this understudied issue within Asia and attempts to incorporate this information to Chinese students in Eastern Asia.

It goes into detail about the risks involved for teachers, as well as students who are currently using MySpace or Facebook. Although it clearly states the dangers of these sites, this articles delves into the positive ways college students and teachers are using them such as organizing charity functions, organizing new clubs, or even forming political protests. This article reflects on both the good and bad sides of social networking and students.

It gives a more general overview of the development of social networking, social media, and technology that has evolved over the past 10 years. It shows both the positive and negative effects of a very "connected" society. It also discusses the effects of this new technology and social media on the literacy of students.

The outcome was to find out how technology effected academic achievement in the designated age groups. I will use this information in putting together a side of how kids are impacted (positively or negatively) by technology.

The world is becoming more digitally based and the integration of technology is just getting started. The use of technology can greatly change the way we read and write and those effects are positive and negative.

In this was described a plan for technology to be integrated into a school system. The plan was to give a school access to technology through their curriculum. The school systems wanted to make sure doing this would benefit everyone. Technology is proven to affect people, but negatively or positively is what they wanted to find out.
