It is three teachers' views on English and Literacy. They discovered that gender is a problem in literacy and that it cannot be ignored. Teachers tend to read their students papers in reflection of their own gender. The three teachers discovered this fact by reviewing a number of papers and answering three review questions provided for each. The results provide awareness for readers in hopes to reverse this trend\n\n

The main purpose of this article is to relate health literacy to many other aspects of healthcare, including health knowledge, health behaviors, health outcomes, and the costs of healthcare. This article is trying to find out what is already being done to make people more health literate and what can be done to improve this in the future. Graphs are also shown in this article of two instruments used to measure health literacy: Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine (REALM) and the Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults(TOFHLA). It shows the studies on these graphs and the conclusions that they came up with about the health literacy in Americans. The main goal in all of this research is too improve health care in all of its aspects.

In the journal, there was a study done on high school and college level aged students who were asked questions regarding inflation, interest rates, and risk diversification. The best part of this article is that it show that students who are from a solid background, or have been to college, know much more about financiall literacy and how their money will spent in the future. I can use much of this information and studies in my paper.

    The food choices students in college make, could set them up for future health problems in the future. Research has shown that food served in dorms are comparable to food served in a fastfood restraunt. Fast food is attracting to college students because of a limited budget, easy access, and peer pressure because their friends are going to eat fastfood as well. Eating fast foods may have little impact on a teen or young adult's health in the short term; but more studies are showing that a poor diet during the teen and childhood years can set a teen up for health problems later '" including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Fast food may taste good now, but could be more costly later on.

EBSCO. Web. 21 Nov. 2010. Recently, more studies have been performed to examine newly developed addictions to technologies such as the Internet and cell phones. Some of these studies have found that full-time students are more at risk to develop these addictions and that these addictions are related to some psychological and behavioral disorders. To see if these observations are correct, a study was performed in which three hundred and thirty-seven college students participated. The first thing that was determined was that there was not a correlation between internet or cell phone over-use and substance abuse or gambling addiction. The second was that there was a correlation between technology over-use and psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. The third was that healthy behavior and technology over-use are not related.

Text messaging at night can lead to sleeping disorders in kids - 1 views

    A study was performed that evaluated the effects of sending text messages and using the Internet right before bedtime on children. The researchers at the Sleep Disorders Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J found that the use of these technologies right before bed can have negative effects on kids' sleeping patterns. These then impact their daytime functioning and psychological health. This lack of sleep results in poor cognitive functioning and disorders such as ADHD. The amount of texting and online use before bed should be limited and monitored by parents.

Researchers concluded that graduation rates alone cannot account for the lower rates among athletes. They say that there are numerous factors that affect this, including admissions standards and wealth of the institution. The study also discusses the relationship between admissions and educational attainment. The study concludes with hopefully providing a model that promotes both academic and athletic excellence.

Autistic people have memory and learning impairments, but recently researchers have studied how implicit learning in ASD is affected as well. ASD stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder, which includes social, motor, and communicative impairments. Implicit learning is the developing of a skill or information without consciousness to what was learned. Neurocognitive (thought) studies, and implicit cognition (unconcious influences such as knowledge) studies have received less attention. Studies have shown that children with Asberger's syndrome have better cognitive abilities that children with normal autism. Autistic children are more likely to forget the skills they have learned over the long term, but can use the results of implicit learning over a long period of time. ASD children compared to controlled show similar learning patterns in specific and general skill learning.

The results from the parents showed that children struggled communicating with others due to their symptoms. Also, the kids had problems comprehending what they read. The children then had major problems in school with reading and writing aspects. The results showed that language comprehension is related to the learning and social problems of children with ADHD.

With recent events it is even more pressing that Americans today have an understanding of peoples of different cultures. Motlow State Community College (MSCC) recognizes this topic of discussion and survey's show that in its courses only 6% of its courses contain significant international content. International education especially at the college level has taken on a new importance. This article argues that despite the student's major, they should be exposed to multicultural education and this knowledge which will enhance a student's success in the global environment of the future.

This article is a study on the difference between kids with ADHD, kids with working memory difficulties and "normal" kids without ADHD or memory difficulties and their academic attainment ability. The children tested were between about eight and ten years old. They were given standardized tests to grade their literacy and numeracy. As expected, the children with ADHD and working memory difficulties had worse scores than the "normal" children. However, the results from the test allow teachers to recognize the students at risk and get them help.

The two tests between what students were tutored and who weren't show the difference. The effects were clearcut.

This is a study done on people with genetic intellectual disabilities. The purpose was to explore their everyday social competence. 65 of the patients studeied were those with Down syndrome. Out of the three disabilities, the Down's syndrome group showed the highest overall social competence scores. They found that the age of the patients was also a factor.
