Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 21 Nov. 2010. This research was conducted to help examine athletes nutritional knowledge. Instead of looking at what the athlete knows, the study examined what athletes failed to know. By recognizing what the athletes at what the athletes do not know nutritional professionals can address the athletes on those topics. They conducted their research by giving Iranian college baseball and football players a 2-part questionnaire on sports nutrition knowledge. The results of the study showed that athletes knew little about nutrition knowledge. The researchers believe that their inadequate knowledge may contribute to poor diet. Overall, this study showed that athletes did not have a well understanding of nutrition.

The survey examined the athletes supplement use, perceived efficacy of supplements, availability and use of nutrition services, and perceived nutrition knowledge of athletic trainers. The research was conducted on 236 athletes. The results showed that 88% used one or more nutritional supplements. In addition the survey all showed that majority of the athletes had nutritional class, brochures, and individual counseling available. Furthermore, 39.8% of the athletes were offered athletic trainers, 23.7% of athletes were offered strength and conditioning coaches, and 14.4% were offered dietitians . Overall this study showed that athletes are surrounded by a healthy and nutritional lifestyle.

People can not decide whether or not the students are making better nutritional decisions or not. It comes to the conclusion that students who know more about health and nutrition are more likely to develop these disorders because they are more aware of their intake. Therefore, there is no specific type of student which is affected by nutrition and health.

This article is about research that was conducted on 113 track athletes from two NCAA Division I schools. Each athlete took a questioner on nutritional knowledge. Thy found that the athletes scored high on carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals, and protein questions, while scoring low on vitamins E and C. Overall the mean diet score was 84 ± 10 (M ± SD) of 110 possible. In addition to this the research also looked at the college athletes died. They found high dietary intake scores in vitamins C and A, cholesterol, saturated fat, calcium, and magnesium. They found low mean dietary intake scores were found for vitamin E, fiber, sodium, and potassium

    This article was about a study that was conducted on students from Herkimer County Community College. The study was a nutritional survey that was created to examine the nutritional knowledge and exercise habits of college students. In addition to this the study also took the students MBI before they took the exam. Majoirty of the 453 that students of that took survey failed to know basic knowledge of nutrition. In addition to this many of these students 40% of the students were overweight.

Despite popular belief that college athletes are well aware of nutrition, this research indicates that the nutritional knowledge of college athletes is minimal. The research was conducted on student athletes at Southern university. The student athletes were tested on of current dietary recommendations, sources of nutrients, healthy food choices, and the relationship between diet and disease processes. The research showed that majority of athletes at Southern university had healthy attitudes about eating behaviors, however had little knowledge.

The freshman weight gain phenomenon revisited - 1 views

    Earlier studies associated the first year of college with a dramatic increase in body weight, termed the "freshman 15". However, recent studies showed that weight gain might be smaller. The purpose of this review was to evaluate the extent of observed weight/body composition changes, including factors associated with them, among students entering university. Searches were conducted for studies examining weight/body composition changes during freshman semesters. Most studies were not comprehensive in assessing numerous potential causative factors for weight gain. Methods for assessing diet, physical activity, and behavioral factors varied among studies. Weight changes were often not quantified by measures of body composition (lean/fat) to ascertain that changes were limited just to gains in fat mass. Overall, weight changes ranged from 0.7-3.1 kg, but among individuals who gained weight, the range was narrower, 3.1-3.4 kg. There may be specific groups of students with a greater predisposition for weight gain and future research should focus on identifying those groups.

    Poor nutritional practices and heightened levels of stress, two common attributes of university life, are strongly linked with weight gain and decreased health. Little research has examined the relationships between university students' lifestyle factors and campus eating behaviours; therefore, this study aimed to examine relationships between lifestyle and campus eating behaviour. Both lifestyle and eating behaviour questionnaires were developed and administered to male and female undergraduate students at a Canadian university. Students whose living arrangements had not changed since high school consumed less alcohol than individuals who moved away from their previous dwellings. Fast food consumption was also significantly related to lower physical activity levels and higher expenditures for food on campus. Males also consumed more alcohol than females and spent more money for food on campus. Conclusion. Relationships do exist between lifestyle and campus eating behaviour. These results may be used as a foundation for future research on the effect of lifestyle on eating behaviours and nutritional status in university age student

It was hypothesized that better nutrition and physical activity would be related to healthy environmental perceptions and personal beliefs.Sixty-five percent of American adults are overweight. The greatest increases in overweight and obesity occur in persons between 18-29 years of age.Eating habits are also a problem in both the general population as well as among college students. Only 28% of persons over the age of two are meeting daily recommendations for fruit intake and even fewer 3% are meeting daily recommendations for vegetable intake. College students often exceed the recommended daily limit for saturated fat intake. A study by Racette found that more than half the students in their sample reported eating high-fat fried or fast foods at least three times per week.

I can only conclude that here in the United States that we would have an even bigger problem than China.

    Objective: The aims of the study were to assess whether women during the first year of college experience (1) significant weight gain; (2) a prospective relation between dietary restraint and weight gain; (3) an increase in disordered eating; and (4) a prospective relation between dietary restraint or concern about the Freshmen 15 (i.e., weight gain of 15 lbs during the freshman year of college) and disordered eating.\n\nMethod\nParticipants were 336 female students in their first year of college who completed questionnaire measures of Body Mass Index (BMI), eating disorder pathology, dietary restraint, body image, and self-esteem.\n\nResults\nParticipants' mean weight gain was approximately 3 lbs (1.5 kg), and among those who gained weight, the mean gain was 7.32 lbs (3.3 kg). Dietary restraint in September did not predict weight change in April, but participants who lost weight reported significantly greater dietary restraint than those participants who gained weight. Eating disorder symptoms increased significantly from September to April. Dietary restraint, concern about the "Freshman 15", and self-esteem in September uniquely predicted EDE-Q Weight and Shape Concern subscale scores in April.\n\nDiscussion\nFemale students in their first year of college gain a small but significant amount of weight, and weight gain was mostly unrelated to dietary restraint. Disordered eating increases during the first year of college and, is predicted by prospective dietary restraint and concerns about weight gain.

This article is reviewing the studies that have been done on this topic and seeing possible factors of it. They list that possible factors could be alcohol, change in physical activity, and many more. It also researches the differences between men and women in this subject. They come to conclude that freshman normally do not actually gain 15, but it appears more like it because it is less likely to be in lean weight.
