Success or failure is all in the implementation... so what works? - Educate 1 to 1 - 0 views

"According to BESA's 2013 report, 57% of Primary and 75% of Secondary schools plan on implementing a one-device-per-child strategy in the next few years. In most cases that will mean tablets and, again in most cases, that will mean iPads. It's not unrealistic to estimate that for a 1000 pupil school, taking into account infrastructure, the total cost of such a project will approach £500,000. With so many investing so much in this approach, what do we know about how to make it work well?"

iPads in the Classroom at Clay Hill Elementary School - Leadership 360 - Education Week - 2 views

"One of the biggest stumbling blocks on our road to successful iPad implementation was WiFi coverage and bandwidth. The Information Services department had to install new access points and optimize the access points we already had. We also found that we did not have enough bandwidth. Every time I launched a new App to the 200+ iPads on campus we exceeded our bandwidth and took every other Internet based function off line. Eventually though we did get our bandwidth more than doubled and that was very helpful."

"The Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest public school district in the USA, has approved a plan that will provide every K-12 student and teacher in Los Angeles with an iPad by Fall 2014. With over 650,000 students and almost 26,000 teachers, this initiative represents a huge and risky $500 million investment. With all that technology flooding into the public school system, to what degree will LAUSD's ambitious new plan change the quality of education offered to public school students in the city of Los Angeles?"

"Ultimately, one question always arises. "There's so many apps on the ipad - just how do you expect me to learn it all!!"
Here's my quick answer: Don't! While it is important to attach deeper understanding to specific apps for specific purposes, sometimes the introduction can be offered within a framework of "discovery learning". For those of you who have access to an ipad cart or a group of iPads, here's an introductory process for both you and your class:"

"What blog entries would you share with someone just getting started with an iPad initiative that was facing a bit of opposition in-house?

Upon reflecting on that question--and you have to remember I've moved slowly from iPad antipathy to embracing iPads over the last year--I realized that there were a few blog entries that just might be helpful.

So, in the spirit of being helpful, here is my round-up of iPad entries:

"Over the last few days I've been working with my school's technician to rollout 30 iPads; 10 for staff and 20 for pupils. We'd both never done this before, and didn't really know what we'd find along the way. But we finished today, and I wanted to share the process we went through."
