It's Not About What You Know. Soft Skills Are Hard - 2 views

  •
"If we collectively want to keep our jobs we must change the way we look at hard and soft skills. We have to find a way to redefine what they are, what is intensely human and what will remain our competitive advantage over the year in the advent of AI and job-threatening-robots.  With research showing that less and less importance is placed on conventional intelligence and with studies indicating that it can actually be counterproductive at work to employ too much of one's IQ while at the same time having organizations move away from formal education, what role does knowledge still play in this brave new world of soft skills and humanity? Professionals who attach a lot of their self-esteem to their intelligence will get bored easily, will get frustrated repeatedly and will feel less inclined to be truly engaged with their colleagues. What's the answer to that? Should they all aim lower to fit in? Is playing dumb a success condition? We have enough trouble getting passion and courage into ourselves and our people - if we now decide knowledge is superfluous what are we left with?"

10 of the Most Outstanding BookTube Channels | Parchment Girl - 3 views

  •
"I don't know about you, but when I logon to YouTube, I usually end up spending hours clicking from video to video. It's probably not the most productive way to spend an afternoon, but it's hard to control myself when there are so many amazing vloggers (video bloggers) talking about books! A couple of years ago I wrote A Beginner's Guide to BookTube, in which I highlighted some of my favorite channels and videos. Since then, so many new book lovers have joined the ranks and some previously small and unknown channels have grown to epic proportions. Choosing just ten favorites was hard and I spend hours agonizing over this list, but I'm happy with the result. Without further ado, here are my top ten favorite BookTube channels in no particular order:"

To be creative learn these seven stages of creativity - Quartz - 2 views

  •
"Art is hard. Creative insights are hard to predict, and just when it gets difficult, your mind immediately jumps to a distraction: something easier to do, an excuse, a scapegoat. To get the most out of your creative energy, carve out space for creative work. To make that space, you need to make space for the other types of work, too. The key to this is understanding how creative insights happen. "

It Was Hard to See the Good in 2021 - Until I Started Practicing Gratitude | EdSurge News - 0 views

  •
"Between school closures, learning loss, intensified educator burnout, widespread staff shortages and increased stressors at home, it's been hard not to focus on the negatives in education this year. In fact, it's human nature to get caught up in what went wrong-an innate survival mechanism called "negativity bias" vigilantly draws our attention to worries and risks so we can better remember and avoid threats. While I'm appreciative that my ancestors were wary folks, in 2021, I often saw myself and others trapped in this negative mindset, always tallying the losses and waiting for the next bad thing to happen. However, in my work with educators this year, I began to notice that some were able to metabolize this negativity and keep themselves and their classrooms positive and adaptive despite the obvious hindrances. Interviews with elementary classroom teachers spanning a variety of settings and grade levels revealed that these resilient educators utilized a common strategy: they practiced gratitude in their everyday lives."

21st Century Learning: Making Technology Relevant in Today's Classrooms : May 2008 : TH... - 0 views

  • 21st Century Learning: Making Technology Relevant in Today's Classrooms by Fred Podolski "21st Century Learning" is currently the hottest catchphrase in education, but what it means has yet to be fully determined. Technology is a part of students' everyday lives, and substantial advances in technology have profoundly affected the way they learn. As a result, educators are working hard to meet the ever-evolving needs of 21st century learners. Translating the ongoing technological revolution into a learning experience is a fundamental part of that challenge.

How to secure files from other users on external disks? - 0 views

  •
External hard-disk or USB drive attached to a system running on OSX is vulnerable, as it could be accessed through other user-profiles easily. Apart from that, if the network file sharing feature is enabled, the external storage device could be accessed by anyone having the authority to get logged into the network. Thus, no matter you encrypted the drive or particular files or not, any unauthorized user can access your data, steal records and make changes into that. What to do? Techvedic, being a leader in tech support, offers you practical and effective solution.

7 Apps for Teaching Children Coding Skills | Edutopia - 0 views

"It's hard to imagine a single career that doesn't have a need for someone who can code. Everything that "just works" has some type of code that makes it run. Coding (a.k.a. programming) is all around us. That's why all the cool kids are coding . . . or should be. Programming is not just the province of pale twenty-somethings in skinny jeans, hunched over three monitors, swigging Red Bull. Not any more! The newest pint-sized coders have just begun elementary school."

5 Brilliant Poetry Apps for Students - 1 views

  •
"Poetry is one of the areas of the curriculum in which it can be particularly challenging to engage and excite students, with teachers sometimes battling the unfounded stereotype that poems are 'old-fashioned' or 'uncool', or that it is 'embarrassing' or too hard to write your own."

"Today is about Google Maps, though. The company has spent the past seven years refining its offering, making its internal systems run quickly to keep up with as many detours, traffic conditions and new apartment complexes that it can. All of that hard work paid off with this app. It's absolutely gorgeous, runs as smooth as a videogame and is a complete user experience overhaul from any Google Maps experience you've ever had."

  •
"Technology and education are pretty intertwined these days and nearly every teacher has a few favorite tech tools that make doing his or her job and connecting with students a little bit easier and more fun for all involved. Yet as with anything related to technology, new tools are hitting the market constantly and older ones rising to prominence, broadening their scope, or just adding new features that make them better matches for education, which can make it hard to keep up with the newest and most useful tools even for the most tech-savvy teachers. Here, we've compiled a list of some of the tech tools, including some that are becoming increasingly popular and widely used, that should be part of any teacher's tech tool arsenal this year, whether for their own personal use or as educational aids in the classroom. Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot | Ed Tech Diva - 0 views

  •
"Passing out iPads to students on the first day of school was like celebrating Christmas (or in this case Hanukkah) with thirty antsy kids sitting around the tree, attempting to hide their impatience. Once the iPads had been handed out, students were instantly excited, engaged and enchanted with the new learning device in their hands. At first, everyone was confused about where to find work, where to save and store their products - and which app to use for what purpose. As with every pilot, these issues worked themselves out and soon classes were running pretty smoothly. Once they all learned what a "hard reset" was we were on our way. After an exciting year chalked full of learning lessons and changes in our learning landscape here are my takeaways: "

Moving at the Speed of Creativity | Why Your School Needs a Scratch Club [VIDEO] - 6 views

  •
"This past year, fourth and fifth grade students at Independence Elementary School in Yukon, Oklahoma, have had the opportunity to participate in an after-school Scratch Club led by STEM teacher Chris Simon. Scratch is a free program from the MIT Media Lab, which permits learners of any age to create games, tell stories, make animations, and much more. In its new 2.0 version, Scratch is entirely web-based, so it can even run on a Chromebook! Yesterday was the final day of "Scratch Club" for students at Independence Elementary this year, and several students shared the reasons why they enjoy Scratch and have loved the Scratch Club. In this five minute video compilation of their ideas, pay attention to how several students mention the importance of "agency" and choice. Many report how they love the opportunity to be self-directed in their learning and to have opportunities to use their imaginations to create. Also notice the way one student references the "hard fun" of programming, which is something Gary Stager talks about often in the context of students learning to code. "
