  • Effective school leadership is the single most important influence on student learning
  • This does not mean school leaders act alone. It means that school leaders collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to develop the school culture, resources, and focus that support student learning.
  • Once school leaders begin to establish Literacy with ICT Across the Curriculum as a focus for initiating change, they can construct a plan to realize this vision. According to a comprehensive study that reviewed theory, research, and practice related to educational leadership, there are three critical factors related to increased student learning. These factors are the ability to maintain a positive school culture with order, discipline, support for teachers, and resources knowledge of curriculum, teaching practices, and student assessment as they relate to an increase in student learning understanding of how to increase student engagement in their learning (Waters et al.)
  • Professional learning
  • Effective leaders understand how to balance growth through change while, at the same time practising aspects of culture, values, and norms worth preserving

Beyond consumer based ICT - The Learner's Way - 1 views

  •
There is a change taking place in how schools approach ICT, one that has been coming for some time but is at the point of moving into the mainstream. A subtle but powerful shift that sees ICT build connections with the Maker Movement as a tool for solving what Bronwyn Moreton speaking at the ICT Educators of NSW conference describes as the 'I wish it would . . .' moment where a learner discovers that their technology doesn't do everything they wished it would.

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills - ICT Literacy Maps - 0 views

  •
In collaboration with several content area organizations, the Partnership for 21st Century Skills developed a series of ICT Literacy Maps illustrating the intersection between Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy and core academic subjects including English, mathematics, science and social studies (civics/government, geography, economics, history). The maps enable educators to gain concrete examples of how ICT Literacy can be integrated into core subjects, while making the teaching and learning of core subjects more relevant to the demands of the 21st century.

Transformation in Education: Can iPad, and other ICT devices, help to transform learnin... - 3 views

  •
"At an ICT Subject Leaders conference I had the chance to listen to Craig Wilkie who speaks passionately about Transformation in Education. I really valued his honesty, and almost his vulnerability, in promoting this thinking in schools (Transformation sounds like a big deal, and a scary concept!) However, as his presentation went on, I realised that my school and other settings I have worked with are transforming the learning culture. "

iPads in Primary Education: Apps for Computer Science - 1 views

  •
"s part of the proposed new draft primary curriculum for ICT, there is a significant emphasis on computer science. Below I've included a selection of apps which can be used in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The apps included range from basic skills in coding a Beebot to more advanced skills in coding games and simulations in apps such as Hopscotch and Codea. I've also included some other useful 'ICT' apps, which can be used to develop pupil's typing skills and Spreadsheet skills."

"In a time where the future of the subject I teach and the moniker I use here on my blog and on Twitter seems to be under constant attack (that's ICT if you hadn't worked it out) you'd think I'd find it difficult to find reasons to be cheerful. What's the future of ICT as a subject? Where's it all going? What on earth are the Government doing with education? Are the goalposts moving every day? (it seems so sometimes)… The truth is though, I've literally never been so excited to be a teacher than I am at the moment…"

iPads in Primary Education: 10 Practical Ways To Use Apps in Primary Mathematics Teachi... - 5 views

"With a keen interest in ICT and maths, I have been exploring the ways in which iPad apps (other than the "I can do maths….2+2 etc" type) can enhance pupil progress and motivation. I believe that, when done the right way, gaming can play a huge role in learning. If you are going to try any of these ideas in class its best to be quite familiar with the apps and how they work."
