Diigo, social annotation services at Blog - 0 views

  • There are tons of social bookmarking sites out there and then there is Diigo. Unlike the other social bookmarking del.licio.us wannbie, I actually like Diigo.
  • If you are like me, someone who forgets why he bookmark a site the next day, you will find this feature handy. If I look back on my del.licio.us page, I can’t remember why I bookmarked half of the site on it. This I think is going to be really useful for collage student, when they are researching something on the web. They could put annotation on sites they found and share then with their other buddies in Diigo. Having Diigo lets you access another world of the web. You will see public highlights of sites by other Diigo users. There are 3 view modes, all (view all highlights and stickies), private (view only your highlights or stickies) and disable (no view of any highlights or stickies). Same like other social bookmarking services out there, you can subscribe / watch what other people are bookmarking. In Diigo, you can subscribe to a person or a tag and there is this mail looking icon on the Diigo toolbar in your Firefox that will show new bookmarked sites either by someone or some tag you subscribed to.

Diigo Reviews. Online Software & Services Reviews by CNET. - 0 views

  • The good: Diigo imports bookmarks from elsewhere; tags pages by topic; lets you mark up and share Web pages; has a simple interface; toolbar and bookmarklet allow quick bookmarking; bookmarks simultaneously to rival services; searches text and comments within bookmarks. The bad: Diigo's subscription features are under construction; doesn't automatically merge similar tags; doesn't preview bookmarked pages. The bottom line: Diigo lets you save, import, tag, highlight, mark up and share Web pages--offering more advanced research tools than Del.icio.us.

A better way to remember your online research | Alex Tran - 0 views

  • A better way to remember your online research April 15th, 2007 · No Comments How often have you found yourself scouring the web for information on a specific topic only to forget which websites you’ve visited and what information was valuable? That’s where I find myself a lot of times when I do online research. Whether that’s compiling a list of pros/cons for all the content management solutions out there to gathering data to write a paper, inevitably I forget something. You know how it is, you sit there and you scratch your head knowing there’s a reason you came to the conclusion you did, but can’t remember what it was. To everyone out there like feels my pain, I want to introduce you to Diigo. Here’s a brief rundown of what it does (as it relates to online research). Highlights text on web pages to make them stand out. Add comments to highlighted text or to the web page overall. Provides a central location to view all your highlights and/or comments.
  • And the cherry on top of all that is that there is no software installation required. All those features are easily accessible through a bookmarklet. If you prefer, there is a downloadable toolbar as well. The beauty of Diigo is that it documents your research. Before, I used to use a text editor. It was terrible. If I’d visit an interesting website, I’d make note of the URL, any interesting text, and any other tidbits I’d want to remember. Then I’d save it with some vague filename wherever the default save location was on my computer only to never find it again. And I call myself a tech-savvy.

This bug seems to recur in the following situation: 1. http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fdiscussions.apple.com%2Fmessageview.jspa%3FmessageID%3D10228266?tab=comment&uname=grahamperrin 2. in the lower part of Meta, scroll down to reveal the comment field 3. paste four lines    — I pasted the four that are also pasted to http://pastebin.ca/1635680 4. Add Comment Symptoms * in the topmost bar of Diigo Meta:   Processing * after which I find error 400 in response to http://www.diigo.com/user/grahamperrin?dm=advanced and some other Diigo URLs

Symptoms recurred after the following sequence: 1. http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maclife.com%2Farticle%2Ffeature%2Fterminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know?f=m&tab=people&uname=grahamperrin   — probably loaded OK and I probably did not attempt to reveal the preview pane 2. in the toolbar of Safari, manually edit the URL to http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maclife.com%2Farticle%2Ffeature%2Fterminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know?f=m&tab=comment&uname=grahamperrin 3. key return 4. AFAIR when I revealed the preview pane, the highlights did not appear 5. in the uppermost bar of Diigo Meta, I command-clicked either the (blue?) title of the bookmarked page, or the (green?) URL of the bookmarked page 6. http://www.maclife.com/article/feature/terminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know opened in a new tab to the side 7. command-3 for accelerated loading of Diigolet 4.0b14 8. clicked the Comment button to reveal the palette 9. clicked the first highlight 10. Diigolet found and scrolled to that highlight 11. in the earlier tab with http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maclife.com%2Farticle%2Ffeature%2Fterminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know?f=m&tab=comment&uname=grahamperrin: command-r to reload, error 400. Postscript Edited this comment heavily to include greater detail.
