  • Diigo - love it Reviewed by zog, 2006-08-18 Fantastic, incredible site. So useful, Can bookmark, can annotate, can add stickies, can collaborate, can filter tags, can open all in tabs, can post to other sites, etc, etc. Icon changes to tell you in advance whether you have already bookmark a site or whether you have any highlighted text or images, yes images too. Which bookmarkers can do these? Awesome!

Diigo ~ Web Developers - 0 views

  • Here is what the folks at Diggo have to say about the extension. Several powerful features are combined in the Diigo toolbar to make this a real “power extension” and must-have for anyone who browse a lot of stuffs online. An All-in-One Bookmarking Tool: bookmark to Diigo, delicious, Simpy, furl, spurl and make them permanently cached and full-text searchable. A Powerful Blogging Platform : Annotate webpages and quickly turn them into blogs with a built-in blog editor or enhanced linkrolls. A Great Collaborative Tool: share and interact on online findings, complete with highlights and sticky notes. The Most Customizable Search Tool: like Google’s toolbar, but fully customizable, so you can add any other specialty searches - dictionaries, music, movies, references, and maps. Here is a comment I found via the Mozilla Add-ons Web site that I think fits Diggo perfectly. Diigo is the best bookmarking tool that I’ve tried. And this extension is a must! You can bookmark a page right from your context menu, which includes highlighting parts of the page when you bookmark, and you can also forward a bookmark to someone. I don’t even keep my bookmarks in my browser anymore - I got tired of looking at 100+ jumbled bookmarks in my browser, so now I use the Diigo extension to retrieve them. I like being able to bring them up as-needed, but the rest of the time they’re stored at my Diigo homepage.

Diigo Fiction: Marginalia in the Library of Babel at WRT: Writer Response Theory - 0 views

  • Diigo, which has a cameo in the Wesch film (nominated for best supporting web ap), offers itself in its latest beta incarnation as a site for sharing annotations in the form of sticky tabs. Thus, the web becomes notable. I have already begun to use this site in my classes for commenting on blogs my students write. But why not use this tool, in the spirit of Writer Response Technologies, in the spirit of Flickr fiction and Tag Cloud Art, as a tool for creating fiction. Because Diigo offers the social annotation of sites, there is the possibility of creating narratives, parasitic though they may be, upon the websites of others.Following the genre of annotation fiction, discussed at length below, why not turn the web into a means of characterization, to turn web reading practices themselves into ways of examining the ergodic, interiority of our characters, or to stitch together tales of paranoia in the way that various ARGS have. If we use the tool in this manner, the Web will be, as author Roberto Leni has put it, our palette.

  • Diigois first and foremost a bookmarking service but one with more than one twists. Not only can you bookmark pages, sections but you can add private or public annotations (on top of the highlighted copied content) and add sticky notes too. You can export your bookmarks, import from your browser or deli.icio.us (I wish there were more options here) but Diigo has yet to offer an optml import option. You can also subscribe to other members feeds or specific tags. Recently they’ve added this blogging feature. I appreciate remote blogging. It saves times and you can update more frequently.

Dave Johnson » Blog Archive » Social Annotation - 0 views

  • Social Annotation I have just read about a company currently in private beta called Diigo, which is in the business of social annotation (SA). Apparently SA is a superset of social bookmarking or tagging, which is of course the piece de resistance of ‘Web 2.0′. The question is can SA be an even better route to getting aquired by MAGY? Don’t quite me on ‘MAGY’ though since I am not sure what order those names should go in… I had been thinking about SA for some time but did not have the time / resources to get anything together for public showing - but this might be a good reason to do so. Of course given my record with getting code up on my blog I won’t have a sample till next year this time. Anyhow, the possiblities for SA are much more attractive than social bookmarking in my mind. With social annotations (at least what I consider it to be) I can surf to any web page and place tagged sticky notes (private or public) in a browser agnostic fashion that will contain my comments and refer to a certain block in the web page DOM. Then I can go to some central place to view / oranize my comments and can also subscribe to RSS of other people’s comments on those pages or from particular people.
  • The main problem that I have with Diigo (from the looks of their Flash demo) is that I need to install their toolbar - yuck!
    • Maggie Tsai

Now we offer a light-weight alternative, Diigolet, without toolbar installation. Please give it a try!
  • The useful part of these systems for end users is that they can tag particular bits of content on a page and find exactly what they were referring to with a tag. Then if you combine this idea with microformats and the Semantic Web you might really be cooking with something combustible like methane.

Listics - Frank Paynter's Voice and Vision… » Diigo… - 0 views

  • I learned of them when I read about their service in the MIT Technology Review several weeks ago.  It’s by invite only, but I wrote and told them that they had to give me an account because last September I was emailing tech-savvy friends to ask if anyone could design a service exactly like this.  I was willing to pay for this — like flickr or Mars Edit — but diigo is in fact free.  No one took up my offer back in September, but by cosmic coincidence some electronic engineering professor geek at Berkeley was dreaming about the same thing and designed it. What it does is this: you read something on the web, you bookmark it using diigo.com (you do need to install a little diigo bookmarklet on the toolbar).  You assign a tag to it (if you want), or several.  Then, you can literally underline the passages that intrigue you, and — this is the cool bit I’ve been waiting for — you can add a “sticky” note (just like on flickr) that associates with the part you’ve just underlined.  When you look at your bookmarks, the list will show you how many annotations you have in each article you’ve bookmarked, and you can then expand that list to show you both the underlined bits as well as your “notes.”
  • Further, if you are a blogger (which I am no longer, thanks), you can blog your annotated and commented-upon bits directly to your blog.  Or you can badger your friends with your brilliant insights to that last political science article you read by forwarding your diigo-bookmarked articles…  Whatever.
  • diigo looks to be what will finally make project collabration practical - meaning folks will actually use it and not just talk about it.

IT|Redux » Bookmarks Roundup - 1 views

  • Diigo: sharing and publishing bookmarks with tags and little comments attached to them is nice, but providing detailed annotations directly onto Web pages is even nicer, and Diigo is definitely leading the pack there. Annotations used to require the use of a dedicated plugin with initial releases of the application, but the company listened to persistent requests from users (including myself), and developed a plugin-free version as well. Definitely worth checking if you consider your bookmarking tool as a real productivity application.
  • 8. Ramon deSilva  |  January 16th, 2007 at 3:20 pm Ismael, That was an interesting writeup. You covered a number of sites, and offered useful capsule summaries. I’ve looked over many of the sites you mention, and used del.icio.us, ma.gnolia, and Diigo. They are all good sites for bookmarking. But I think you overlooked a few points about Diigo that make it different from, and far superior to, any of the other sites. 1. As well as the ability to highlight and add sticky notes to web pages, you can collect the annotations from any set of pages (say, those tagged web-2.0-services) into a single source, with original URLs noted, to simplify your research. 2: The Diigo toolbar allows you to place all the search tools you might want, grouped by purpose, in a single button, so you can easily use multiple search tools for extensive research. The integration of this with bookmarking and annotation capabilities makes Diigo the most full-featured, capable research tool available. Diigo has other abilities; too many to list here. Overall, Diigo will save anyone who spends much time doing research on the Internet time and effort. True, you need to spend a bit of time learning all the features so you can incorporate them into your work habits, but the effort will pay off many times over. Overall, Diigo is the one service I find I cannot live without. There are other tools out there that do a nice job of this or that, and I use some of them. But Diigo is the only one I depend on throughout the day and could not live without.
  • How many users would like a del.icio.us++ where they can not only bookmark the URL, but also highlight specific parts of the page? Personally, I can’t live without highlighting: it helps me re-read the page, or realize that I’ve seen it before. -Laurent

  • 11. Oliver Schwenke  |  January 17th, 2007 at 1:28 am I have to agree with Ramon and the other Diigo users who left a comment here. In my opinion, nothing comes close to Diigo feature-wise.
  • 3. Keith Manning  |  January 17th, 2007 at 7:57 am My comment is mostly for serious business use — mostly saving and sharing research. Diigo is already a great personal tool. I have tried several, and found that Onfolio was the best for my needs (until it was bought by the Evil Empire and emasculated). However, I am already finding Diigo to be better than Onfolio was at its best. I am anxiously awaiting the groups feature of Diigo. If it works as advertised, it will make Diigo a killer application for my company. It is already our personal research bookmarker. With groups, it will become a workgroup bookmarker, with the ability to collaborate in creating a bookmark set for each project. It promises to also give us flexible group definitions to support multiple, overlapping workgroups. Since our usage is commercial, we also want privacy. The “social” nature of some sites can be a positive disadvantage for users like ours. We would also prefer a paid service; I trust a service that has a fee-based business model more than I trust a supplier that is making money by indirect means. Also, I abhor intrusive advertising and cross linking. Having sung the praises of Diigo for our serious business application, I should add that we also use it for personal, more trivial purposes. Like sharing gift ideas, or discussing new gadgets. We used to use a private (TypePad) group blog for this, but since getting Diigo, the blog has fallen into disuse, and we tend to Diigo-annotated pages instead — note that Diigo has now become a transitive verb, like Tivo. -Keith
  • 14. Ismael Ghalimi  |  January 17th, 2007 at 2:18 pm Ramon, Oliver, Keith, Reading through your comments, it seems to me that Diigo is getting close to becoming a full fledged enterprise bookmarking tool in its own right. That’s pretty good news to me, for I hate having only one player in any category I cover. Let’s see how it compares to Connectbeam and the upcoming Cogenz down the road. Best regards -Ismael

Save every Web site: best bookmarking tools - Internet - 1 views

Knowledge Hunter: Search results for diigo - 0 views

  • here's Diigo, with communities sharing bookmarks, clippings, annotations, ...
  • The social annotation service introduced by Diigo allows users to add highlights and sticky notes, in situ, on any web page they read. Imagine a giant transparency overlaying on top of all the web pages. Users can write on the transparency as they wish, as private notes or public comments. And they can read public comments on the transparency left by other readers of the same page, and hear their "two cents" and interact with them.

diigo - TechCrunch - 0 views

  • Website annotation tool Diigo will officially announce its new WebSlides feature next week. The new widget is an embeddable player that presents feeds or bookmarks as live web pages in an interactive slideshow format, complete with full page content including links, comments, and ads. The widget can be sent to friends and colleagues or placed on websites, blogs, and social networks. A bit of good news for publishers: every slide view will actually register a page view for the content owner. WebSlides also enables Diigo users to highlight important sections and annotate pages on the fly with sticky notes. Users can also bookmark, tag, share, and clip content from the pages in WebSlides for future reference in their own Diigo online folders. To set up a WebSlides presentation, you simply enter a feed or list of bookmarks, add background music or voice narration, and click “Play”. There is a lot of competition in the website annotation space, but Diigo’s WebSlides is the first slideshow widget to preserve total page content. Combined with Diigo’s research capabilities, WebSlides makes for a great product. The company will be presenting in the TechCrunch40 demo pit next week.

Thats Interesting - 0 views

  • Personally I found Diigo www.diigo.com to be the most delightful and one step ahead. This fun tool allows you to highlight, bookmark and forward, any content from any site on planet Web. Even better, you can actually add a sticky note with your comments for either public or private viewing. This is in addition to all the regular features of a wiki – creating groups, shared content, collaborating on files and projects etc. You do need to download the tool bar which comes in all popular browser versions. I spent a most happy half hour, sticking notes on random web sites, but am sure it can be put to more productive use. Public comments are monitored by an editing team.

:: Flipping Heck! Productivity, Project Management & Motivation Blog :: Diigo Social Annotation Review :: - 0 views

  • I received an email the other week asking me to take part in and review a  new service which finally launched outright this week called "Diigo".It's nice to know that people read my blog, enjoy what I ramble on about and would like me to comment on it, but anyway, on with the review.Diigo is a not your usual social bookmarking site like del.icio.us or social commentary site like Reddit or Digg, they call it a "Social Annotation website".They have a toolbar that integrates with Firefox, Flock and Internet Explorer that allows you to add "Sticky notes" to pages, post the pages to a del.icio.us-type bookmarking service (and del.icio.us itself plus others), forward highlighted text via email to a friend and, most importantly, add comments to webpages which other users can then view (or you could choose to make them private but that's hardly the point of a social annotation site now is it?!).After you have your Diigo account, you'll be prompted to install the relevant toolbar for your browser (Sorry Safari fans, I don't think you're supported yet), once that's installed and you've restarted your browser the fun begins! The annotation system is accessed via a your context menu (right-click on the webpage):

Undirected Ramblings: Diigo - 0 views

  • Diigo The web it seems is becoming only the surface of what is there. For a while we have had social bookmarking, but I recently found a new tool called Diigo which allows for social annotation. Diigo provides for social tagging as well but what sets it apart is the ability to add annotations to your view of a web site. Simply highlight some text, right click select the item "Add Sticky note" and leave an annotation. Mark the annotation, public, private or share it with a group who will see it if they are logged into Diigo and go to the site where annotations have been left by other group members. This creates a remarkable social space which well facilitates discussions on academic papers, family sites, software and many other things. One of my new favourite tools.

Diigo - 0 views

  • Have you ever bookmarked a web site and then gone back to it and forgot why you bookmarked it? This used to happen to me all of the time, but not since I have started using Diigo. Diigo (pronounced Dee’go) is a new "social annotation" tool that combines online bookmarking, highlighting, annotation and more. My favorite feature of Diigo is that it allows users to highlight text and add sticky notes on any web page they bookmark. This makes Internet research a lot easier for you and your students and it is a great way to keep track of your references.

Diigo on Wikipedia - 1 views

  • Diigo is a website which allows users to bookmark and tag websites. It also allows users to highlight all or part of a page and attach sticky notes to the page. These annotations can be kept private, shared with a group within Diigo or a special link forwarded to someone else. The name "Diigo" is an abbreviation for "Digest of Internet Information, Groups and Other stuff".[1] The launch of Diigo met with mixed responses from the unimpressed [2] to the enthusiastic [3]. The product is still capable of further development such as that comprehensively detailed by a Diigo user at [4] but response on whole has been positive an example of which can be seen in the comparison between several social bookmarking sites on IA-Blog [5] Diigo beta was listed as one of the top 10 research tools by CNET in 2006 [6].

  • GREAT ONLINE OFFERINGS
  • Diigo Okay, Diigo is really cool.  Especially in a job like mine where I do a lot of research.  Diigo is a social annotation site so if you like surfing the net and want to leave notes on your favourite websites, Diigo is the program to do it.  Registration is free and there is no download required for basic Diigo.  It allows you to leave virtual "sticky notes" on the websites you visit.  The really cool part?  You can share your "online" notes with people of your choosing.
