How Do Graphic Designers Stay Inspired | 10 Best Tips - 0 views

  •
Designing is a mixture of your creativity and the tool you use to make your designs. If you are creative but doesn't know how to use a tool (software/simple tool), then you may get somewhere even if using only basic tools. But if you know how to use a tool but doesn't have the creativity to continue on, then your knowledge can go to a waste. Creativity is what push you to start thinking and keeps you inspired. Without creativity you will be clueless about what you are going to design. Inspiration is everywhere you go. You can get inspired from small and little things you see on a daily basis. We do not give importance to the things we see on a daily basis, but a little shift of our perspective can make us look quite differently on these things.

A Cool And Easy Way To Show Off Blogs - 0 views

  • There are a few posts I’ve written here where I’ve mentioned the phenomenal bookmarking service call Diigo. It’s something I use all the time.
  • The folks at Diigo have pushed the envelope a little farther with something they’ve recently announced call WebSlides. The reasons for using such a service are numerous, but the one I see being used the most is for bloggers to highlight other sites. Another use is to create a presentation about your own blog for visitors to get to know about your place. It might be a nice addition to your sidebar or About page. A presentation is very simple to make. While in your Diigo account, you select the sites you want to include and save them to a list. You can then add an audio file for background music or narration if you like. Readers can adjust the speed at which they move from site to site. They can pause it or even click on the sites provided in a list at their own pace — all without having to create a Diigo account of their own. I’ve explained more in my own presentation, so click the button below and take it for a spin. (Btw, yes, that’s me narrating. )
  • I’m glad you took the time to drop a comment here. I really appreciate all that you guys do, and please know that you have a strong supporter of your service as I’ve talked about it a few times here and on my other blogs. Keep it up!

WebSlides - Transforms Bookmarks Once Again - 0 views

  • WebSlides - Transforms Bookmarks Once Again
  • This innovation is a browser based player that displays live Web pages with integrated annotation, sticky notes and highlights in an interactive slideshow. With this cool tool users can record and narrate tracks as well as add background music to make compelling shows - and somewhat more. WebSlides is being presented at the Office 2.0 Conference as I write this, so we wanted you to have a look at this simple, innovative and useful tool as well.
  • Web 2.0 has to a large extent been about new ways of organizing and manipulating data. This is particularly true of bookmarks and other links. Innovative developments like Second Brain, Particls and others have pushed the envelope in creating useful and fascinating ways for organizing all types of links and data. Well, testing this little tool makes me wonder why someone did not think of this before (I - know just comment and tell us about your service too). WebSlides is like StumbleUpon in motion actually. It does not yet have the "resident" features of SU, but WebSlide creations saved or submitted to other services will exhibit a similar feel. So just when we thought StumbleUpon and a host of others had done everything with pages - along comes WebSlides. Here is a short list of things users might do with this service. Create guided tours of websites Display a list of houses or other products to clients Bundle education resources or research data Make shows of favorite places when visiting or traveling Create briefings or tutorials and tours on virtually any subject Present a whole series of news stories on a topic to digg or del.icio.us and others for scrutiny Interactively submit "collections" of stories and data
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • WebSlides is not yet available for testing so we could not get in depth information on the slide creation UI and other features. However, the demo presentations are fairly awesome in presenting selections with music. I can think of at least 10 other uses for this tool - one of which might be used to rate news stories in collections (with voting). If the developers continue to improve on the exceptional "in show" page functionality - then WebSlides will be quite something. This service is deceptively simple in appearance, but making web pages functional within a relatively interactive slide show is not a simple feature. I like WebSlides and look forward to testing the service and also seeing how it is enhanced in the coming months. Combined with Diigo's other services, this fascinating tool could go viral quickly in my estimation. Check it out and perhaps comment on your ideas for its uses.

  • This is brilliant. Next time you’re going to a meeting where you want to show a selection of websites. Don’t worry about collapsing them all, just create a slideshow out of them.

Beyond School: Screencast: Using Diigo on Student Scribe Blogs as Test Reveiw "Sheets" - 0 views

  •
I'm pushing farther into Diigo Groups in the classroom this year, and just sharing.  One thing I noticed, though, is that when I changed themes on WordPress after highlighting and annotating a blog post, the highlights and annotations disappear - even when I change back to the original theme.  Is this surmountable?

Diigo-Social Bookmarking | Exploring Web 2.0 - 0 views

  • I have found that it is pushed my research into websites into a broader realm. I like how easy it is to save my favorites. I am able to place highlights on the site as well as sticky notes. I can form groups to share sites and discuss the common goal of the group. I would like to use it as a place to discuss a book that we will be reading. I think it will be a good place for researching the topic and discussing the topic.

Effect of the Depression on Technology - O'Reilly Radar - 2 views

  • this recession will be good for innovation because recessions generally are
  • A recession means technologists cease to be paid vast amounts to duplicate the work of others
  • low-cost high-impact physical events we've created (Ignite, hacker meetups, coworking spaces, foo/bar camps) will thrive
  • ...20 more annotations...
  • agree that tough times foster innovation
  • @gregor's point about cultural activities increasing in Argentina during their 2001 recession sounds like an indicator in favour of open source
  • We are dealing with this as I will be graduating from college and entering the job market
  • I will be a hacker housewife and improve my skills while taking care of husband and home
  • innovation is a cultural effect within companies and cannot be turned on or off due to economic conditions
  • if the company has a traditional mindset
  • then innovation is going to be an uphill climb regardless of how many great ideas are floating around
  • a Fortune 500 company
  • clearly defined ROI
  • also those companies who attempt to clean up the mess government is going to make. The regulations that come out of the current crisis are going to be draconian
  • The additional costs of compliance will also affect new launches and IPOs due to the additional costs, so there is another negative drag on innovation, or at least the monetization of those innovations
  • a social network that harnesses its members to contribute to open source projects? Instead of playing facebook games or posting pics of yourself wasted at the latest party, get the members to commit to donating that extra time to a small piece of a large open source project
  • benefit from a legion of even poorly skilled members if given clear directions
  • qualified peer review
  • use it as a learning process
  • Help others by online mentoring in resource-challenged places, etc.
  • We can afford to devote maybe 10-20% of our time to open source
  • the truth is I put in 20-30 hours a week in the evenings, mornings and week ends to make the big pushes happen
  • sweat equity
    • Graham Perrin

I like that expression - sweat equity
  • Everyone puts in extra time
  •
Diigo community thoughts on (at least) the highlighted points will be greatly appreciated. If you can, make your sticky notes public; the highlights will be shared with other interested groups. Thanks!

Diigo: Collaborative Bookmarking « Christian Saborío's Blog - 0 views

  • I just stumbled upon diigo, which follows the footsteps of del.icio.us but takes it up a notch. All I was looking, was for a way to highlight content on the web. The web is an incredible source of information, and while doing research, I find myself going back to bookmarked pages to find code snippets or some other info. Besides being able to bookmark a page, I wanted to be able to permanently highlight something on the page. Diigo allows you to do this, and it is available with a Firefox plug-in (I believe they also have an IE plug-in as well). Here is an example of a site I was reading and wanted to highlight something:
  • Now, whenever I visit that page, the content I highlighted will always be there. But wait, there’s more. You can share add notes as well to your bookmarks, and you can share this information with ‘friends’ under your accounts or automatically post to groups you define. This is a great way to share information, you could have people in your enterprise subscribe to the groups you define and then automatically share everything in a collaborative matter. For instance, you could create a group called “Virtualization” and once you find an interesting article, comment what you need and push it to the subscribed users. This can only make the flow of collaborating information a lot smoother.

Design Graffiti~ Writing on the Wall: Is Diigo better than Delicious or is it in a class by itself? - 0 views

  • However, Diigo is much more important than that to be relegated to a mere service that directs users to the outlandish, latest web page hype. There is a promise of research and community knowledge gathering that doesn't have much use for a Thumb up rating systems. They want to collaborate more intimately than that.
  •
In the information age, the greatest asset we will have will be our collective innovations and ideas. Diigo is not simply a large repository to dump your bookmarks. It is the creative playground where individuals across disciplines will self-organize themselves into knowledge groups, pushing the wisdom of our ages further than ever before. This is the promise and the potential of the Diigo platform.
