OnlineFamily.Norton [Review] - 0 views

  • For years, Symantec has included a parental-control element in its Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 packages. It's so limited as to be nearly useless, so for years I've given it poor ratings. OnlineFamily.Norton is a huge improvement, on a par with the best existing parental-control programs. Now both suites offer it as an alternative to the old, lame Norton component. Users should definitely choose it instead. The new free offering is a strong contender, matching almost all the features of the top paid parental control systems.

Symantec's new OnlineFamily.Norton (free until 2010) emphasizes communication over control. Symantec gathered an Advisory Board of experts in education, parenting, and online safety to oversee the product's direction. The results are impressive.

Hilton made a name for himself as a celebrity blogger, making nasty comments about celebrities and attempting to "out" gay and lesbian stars. See his YouTube video for the announcement. http://bit.ly/perezhilton_bullying The message is a bit rambling but he's definitely someone who influences teen behavior.

Would you want a digital footprint from birth? - 6 views

  •
It's important for parents today to realize they are creating an online dossier for a human being that will be with them for years to come. It's worth considering what kind of digital footprint or online history you want to leave for your child. When your child is a teenager or adult, what will they make of the information you are currently uploading now? 5% of babies under 2 have social media profiles, 7% have email addresses, 81% of two-year-olds have a digital footprint. The irony here is that Zogby International just published a survey of parents that found 90% of them think their kids share too much information online and social networks aren't doing enough to protect them. See the story at: http://bit.ly/CNNparentpoll

What to Do If Hackers Steal Your Online Accounts - 5 views

  •
Stolen accounts-caused by aggressive phishing attacks and distribution of malicious programs to collect passwords-have become a plague upon the Web. Spammers want them so their messages can get past spam filters. And crooks, who often lock out the true owners by changing their passwords, use them to find and get inside financial accounts or to impersonate the owners and weasel money out of their friends.
