  • In my work at the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN), one of my responsibilities is to help smallholder farmers adapt and create climate-resilient farming methods. Such knowledge exists but often fails to reach Africa's vast rural populations.

I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because the girl is sharing about her childhood in Zimbabwe, how to grow food. The expriences that she has is really interested me.

      I am currently learning about Africa's food security. I read this article "fighting for Africa's foo Security" by Sithembile Ndema. This article. Ms.Ndema speaks a bit about her child hood in Zimbabwe and how she would see her grandmother go to the same one acre plot of land each day, where she would work long hours growing crops. It is how she survived "This is how i wake up everyday, this is how i survive." " She continues to till her field with a hand hoe using seed saved from previous harvest, and applying a teaspoonful of fertiliser per maize plant. Her working hours and type if in outs have remained the same over the years, how ever, the yeilds have been declining drastically." The quote above is basically describing what sithembile's grandmother does. It also address the problem. " Yeilds have been declining drastically." I think this is a serious problem because this is how many people survive. It makes me wonder what other people can do to help. As i was reading this article i began to wonder how i will help this article also made me appreciate the many things that i have and the opportunity's that others do not

African farmers need to be able to access the knowledge and tools with which to grow a food-secure future for Africa. This would include, for example, the most effective and cost-efficient fertilisers and seeds, and improved access to markets.

      The quote I chose here is basically saying that the growth of food in Africa is still based on how good the climate is in now a days. The growth of food supply is not only one farmer's job, but all farmers's job. Everyone work together as a community and be success as a group.
  • While many young people do not seem to care about agriculture, they should acknowledge the fundamental role it plays in our lives.  Not only does it feed the cities, but it also feeds factories with the raw ingredients needed to continue building an economy.   One Young World will give me a chance to promote the importance of agriculture among my peers, and to help them understand its role in creating a food-secure, economically-stable Africa in the future.

      I this is challenging because the technology in now a days are very good, but we still need at least 5 years to improve the technology to make food supply faster and easier. It makes me wonder how can the technology imapct the farming.

    I'm learning more about Food Security right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: Is this a problem of politics or science? In other words can we right now "Young people have the advantage of having grown up in a globally connected world, within which we communicate more quickly and broadly than perhaps any other generation before us. Whilst young people may not yet have the power to drive policies, we will be the ones who must accept the big challenges of the future which are as yet unresolved: from population growth to climate change to market reform and the end of poverty."

    I'm learning more about food security right now and in particular what I'm wondering about is how the next generation will take over to fight the challenge. I was researching this question online and this article caught my attention because it was written by a 24 year old woman who has worked in the field all her life. She grew up in Zimbabwe and she used to watch her grandmother work long exhausting days as a child and even now. Because of her grandmother, she wants to make a difference as she attempts to get her generation more active in facing world problems.\n\n"Whilst young people may not yet have the power to drive policies, we will be the ones who must accept the big challenges of the future which are as yet unresolved: from population to climate change to market reform and the end of poverty."\n\nThe quote I chose here is basically saying that she is calling out to the younger generation for help. Even though we don't have as much power as many others, we still have the power to try. It's up to us to contribute to changing the world.\n\nI think this is strong and hopefully it will motivate the younger generation to volunteer more and acknowledge these world issues. It makes me wonder what will happen in the future when it comes to youth involvement in the world. Will youth voices slowly disappear? Will anyone care anymore?

The quote I chose here is basically saying the younger generation can spread awareness because of the technology nowadays, news can be heard around the world. I think this is strong statement because it's true. That's how most people hear the news. Online, texting, watching television, and social networking. Many youngsters don't really read the newspaper. It's easier to just check the news websites online.

I was researching this question online, and this article caught my attention because it shows how people in Africa need help. It's too bad that these type of things happen in other parts of the world. I feel so spoiled and bad compared to these people. I'm so lucky and blessed to have the life that I have and that things are sometimes just handed to me and that opportunities are everywhere. I hope these type of lives will one day be over so that everyone can live a wonderful and fruitful life instead of having a hard working life like this.

    I'm learning more about Africa's food security right now, and in particular what I'm wondering is: Why isn't the younger generation helping the older generation? I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because, all the changes that they are talking about is going to affect them in the long run and if they don't something about it now then it would be harder to fix later. The title of the news article is Fighting For Africa's Food Security. Something that i saw in the summary was that they are trying to fix the problem with Africa and they are trying to make a better way to get the young generation involved since they are not involved at all. "Political instability, global poverty and health, the financial crisis, religious conflicts and climate change are all issues that affect us and require long-term solutions to address substantially." I think this is a strog description because, if peoplee don't worry the sudden changes now how are they going to fix them later. I think that fixing the problem now will be more easier because later if you try to fix it some obstacles might be in the way.

I was researching this question online and this news item caught my attention because it talks about the reasons why there are food shortages. "The effects of climate change are exacerbating an already vulnerable food supply in Africa, leaving farmers less capable of providing for themselves alone. let alone their communities." The quote i chose here is basically saying that due to global warming, and recent climate changes, crops are not growing as well as they could. As the heat, and cold gets worse plants will not be able to survive. I think this is will not be good for the economy because without farmers being able to grow crops, that means less food for the humanity. It makes me wonder how much longer, it will take before food runs out, and people starve to death. Will the scientists figure out a way for more heat-resistant plants?

    I'm learning more about trust right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How are trustworthy people identified? I was researching this question online, and this poem caught my attention because it discusses other factors of a relationships that intertwine with trust. "So, when I put all of my trust deep within you Please don't tell me you love me, unless you truly do." The quote I chose here is basically saying that when you learn to trust someone, you expect the same thing back. With trust, you expect to gain true love as well. When people learn to trust another, they want something in a form of a reward. I think this is accurate because when many people commit to something and spend their time, learning to do something, they want something in return. It makes me wonder if a person finally learns to build trust in someone, will they ever be able to trust again if they're betrayed?

      It's hard to believe that so many people are starving. Some thing that stood out for me was when the article stated Queens tally topped only by that in the Bronx, which saw a 110% boost.In Brooklyn the jump was 75% and in Manhattan 62%." & a 29% for Staten Island. Staten island has the smallest percentage due to how small the island is.Either way the rates of hunger have increased drastically.

I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because it explains the problems about giving food to elder people. It also talks about Gillibrand and Sen. Chuck Schumer are co-sponsoring legislation to make permanent the Good Samaritan Hunger Relief Tax Incentive that encourages businesses to donate unused food items to food banks. It also states that another piece of legislation Gillibrand is co-sponsoring to help support food pantries and other charities is an extension of tax credits for seniors when they make charitable donations from their retirement savings. Such credits are set to expire at the end of this year. A paragraph that caught my eye was " Emergency measures taken in Washington over the past year dramatically increased the availability of food stamps and government purchases of food for emergency relief programs, according to Triada Stampas, the Food Bank's director of government relations and public education, but failed to fill the gap in the city." This is because it explains about food emergency.     I'm learning more about food insecurity right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: what cause the rate of food insecurity to increase. I was researching this question online, and this news article, "Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food" caught my attention because it explains what I'm wondering. The quote I chose here is basically saying that as the economy goes down, those who always donate clothes and other food supplies stopping donating because they cannot afford to. This is one of the biggest reason that food crisis in queens is becoming more serious. I think this is very sad because it makes me wonder how many people in our city right now don't have food to eat and can barely survive. I'm now recalling how much food that I have wasted since I was born. I believe that if I had saved all that amount of food, I would have saved a lot of people. Therefore, from now on I will try my best not to waste any food and join those who donate food to poor people.

I mean there are these many people who need food in my area? I mean I know in Queens I have seen many homeless people and food drives all around the city but I never knew it was due to the fact because there are these amount of people who need it. Its sad and shocking and I think I am going to start putting in my two cents and try to hep out. I think I will start volunteering at a food drive or something. This is crazy how people are in hunger like this.

    I'm learning more about food security in queens right now, and in particular what i'm wondering about is why are people hungry all of the sudden. I was researching this question online, and this new posts caught my attention because, why is only Queens having this food problems and why does the title have the borough queens and not any other borough. Several people in the Bronx have to worry about this for sure because there are so many of them in this condition. I think this is a true statement because, several people are having such a low amount of food and they don't know when they gonna have their next meal.I think that why their are so many emergency security food and meals are being passed out all around the boroughs in NYC.

I was researching this question online, and this news article caught my attention because it shows how my community is suffering from food security. Food security affects the world and the people around us. "We need to make sure we're helping children and families who were hit the hardest by this economy,' Gillibrand said." The quote I chose here is basically saying that we as a country are suffering from hunger. This is very surprising because children and families are suffering and we should help them. The economy affected the rate of food security, because a lot of adults lost their jobs and now they cant afford to put food on the table. I think this is shocking because so many people lost their jobs in the last two years with the economic crisis that now, thousands of children and families are suffering. It makes me wonder how many people are suffering from hunger not only in the US or Africa, but the whole world. I found out that India is going through some food crisis and that many children are dying from hunger. I don't think this is an issue not many people think about. That's what makes me think.

    I'm learning about multiple intelligences right now, in particular what I'm wondering about is: Have there been further studies on the subject? I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because the title was blunt, there's no masking the point behind the article.     I'm learning more about multiple intelligences right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about what are the different types of intelligences?. I was researching this question online and this blog post caught my attention because it tells what are the different intelligences and it talks about them. "instead of matching your teaching style to a learning style, match your teaching style to the content. " The quote I chose here is basically saying that teachers should teach in a way that it'll match the content. For example if they are teaching about math they should use the method of logic, also use visualize to teach the kids so they can see it step by step. I think is explaining a lot about multiple intelligences because it tells how teachers should teach students since everyone has a different learning style.     I am learning more about autistic children right now, and in particular what I'm wonder is why is there a sudden raise in such case. How is it that more and more children are becoming diagnosed at a much younger age? What is causing this? I was researching this question online, and this blog that I found in Kid Glue called "Autism Now Affects 1 in 100 Children" caught my attention because that shows that autism is affecting more and more children each year. I decided to choose this to read because I'm currently reading a book called "The curious incident of the dog in the night" and it is written first person by an autistic boy named Christopher. Reading the book really sparked my interest in learning about autism and how it affects not just children, but people in general. "Disorders like this are very bothersome to me. I have a friend whose son is Autistic and it is very challenging." This was a quote that I found from the article. I chose this quote because it shows us how challenging it really is to be around an autistic person. People with autism have to be dealt with care and patience. I recommend this article because you can learn a thing or to if you ever come across a person whose diagnosed with autism.

      This does sound like Sims, however it is more fantasy. I guess it's what someone wants to get out of the game. I think that the idea of going on hunts and the whole monsters and dragons thing makes it very different than Sims.

  • The two learning situations that I have chosen to observe in this project are the teaching of children in a daycare and the use of video games to teach children. Both of these situations are considered two different agents of socialization. The teaching of children in a daycare is classified as the school agent and the video games teaching children are considered a form of the mass media agent. These two socialization agents fall within the childhood stage of socialization. Although the two learning situations use different agents of socialization, they both help to teach important cognitive development skills, motor skills, and the development of “how to” thinking.

      I'm learning about gaming, and in particular what I'm wondering about is how do gaming change peoples. I was reseaching this question online, and this blogpost caught my attention because it's about daycare and video games, and children.     I'm learning more about the multiple intelligences right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: What was the theory based upon? I was researching this question online, and this magazine article caught my attention because it implies some evidence for the theory is too inclusive to be entirely true. "The key to MI theory is that it addresses cultural diversity and inclusion of children with disabilities in a manner that enables them to function optimally in the classroom setting. Thus, attention is not drawn to the fact that some children are different in some way, because their learning experiences are constructed to maximize their success." The quote I chose here is basically saying that the Multiple intelligence theory draws a lot of its proof from using disabled students. Therefore, not everyone realizes that every child is going to be different. In turn, they will succeed differently. I think this is surprising because I had thought the original purpose for the theory was equality in the classroom, not focus on specific people. It makes me wonder if I should reevaluate my perception of the multiple intelligences.

      I am learning more about intrapersonal learning styles right now and in particular what I'm wondering about this: Why is this term "self-analysis" important to this text?. I was researching this for my Multiple Intelligences essay and this blog post caught my attention because this post went straight to the point and did not take three paragraphs to get there so I did not get bored and click it out. The quote I chose here was saying that self-analysis is the first way to figure out how you got this style of learning or whether you got it or not. I think this is very informative because it makes me wonder if there is more to that than just being very social. Now I sort of think: ok well this person is more sure of themselves with other individuals or this person is not a loner, or just that this person is a team player.

    I'm learning more about the multiple intelligences right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How this theory is applied in modern education? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it mentioned that schools did not use a variety of learning styles to teach. "...American schools still base their instruction primarily on the verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences. As a result, many students who are not strong in these traditional intelligences develop poor attitudes toward school and their academic achievement suffers." Most schools today base their curriculum around only two of several intelligences. However, many students are more adept in using other methods to learn. This makes it harder for those students to excel, despite having the ability to if given the right school environment. I think this is true because I know a bunch of people who are extremely talented in a lot of areas. They know a lot, but, they have poor grades, mainly because they can not showcase their abilities properly. It makes me wonder if the school system will change in the future. Then, maybe it will be more fair.

    I'm learning more about Multiple Intelligences right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How are Multiple Intelligences used in school? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it answers my question directly. "traditional and nontraditional approaches should be combined to formulate a method of education that is best suited to the students who populate our classrooms. The multiple intelligences offer a balance which teaches students what they need to know in order to be successful in our society in a way that compliments the unique abilities that each individual possesses." The quote i chose here is basically saying that the authorities should change school so that they can combine two different intelligences together. By combining two intellgences it is easier for students who are not dominant in either logical, or linguistic intelligences. I think this is smart because many students dominant intelligences are not in linguistic, or logical. Instead it is in the intelligences schools do not incorporate into the curriculum. It makes me wonder if i would do better in school, if two intelligences were combined.

    I'm learning more about the multiple intelligences right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is how did Howard Gardner come up with the multiple intelligences. I was researching this online, and this blog post caught my attention because it mentioned Howard Gardner and the multiple intelligences. The title also showed a preview of what the article is about. I read the blog post and didn't show what i want, however i did find this quote to be intriguing. "Howard Gardner has questioned the idea that intelligence is a single entity, that it results from a single factor, and that it can be measured simply via IQ tests. . . challenging also the cognitive development work of Piaget. Bringing forward evidence to show that at any one time a child may be at very different stages for example, in number development and spatial/visual maturation, Howard Gardner has successfully undermined the idea that knowledge at any one particular developmental stage hangs together in a structured whole. I think this is informative because it makes me wonder how he figured this out without using really complex technology.

    I'm learning more about College basketball, and basketball skills. In particular what I'm wondering about is, if I would have learned these skills and have been playing basketball since 9th grade would i be ready to go to the college level? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it breaks down all of the skills a player must have to be great at his/her game. I went to this article because these are things i would like to know because i want my game to be at the highest level possible. "Vision is communication". The quote I chose here is saying vision is very important on the court. It is probably the most important because you play better when you see everything and can read what the deffence/ offence is doing. Also when your on offence and your a person that likes to throw passes and fill up the asists stat vision is very important. You want to throw the deffence off by throwing no look passes and ally oops, you can only do that with court vision.

    this is my favroite podcast of all. because i been playing this game for a week and yes indeed i agree is highly addictive. is way too good i cant get it off my mind. i cant really do my home work because i keep on playing this game however now i try to keep my balance between these games i try to be better at studying and playing the game at the same time hopefully i wont be one of those guys who play games all day well i mean i wont play games all day to turn into one of those because i know that plying mmorpg game is an orpg game and i play like crazy so hopefully i will stop playing because i do feel that i pay too much warcraft even though is jsut my forst week. is amazingly addictive and i regret buying the game because now i'm additected to the game hopefully i can be off the game soon well not completely off the game like remeber to play and study but not to remind myself to play everyday. is a great game im a current warlock who kills moster who are higher than my level. i soon have to take math b in jan and i need to start study soon so im goign to be studying and playing at the same time i though that this is a way to improve myself to be a better person and move foward because i know that i have to learn more knowledge each day in order to be a better human being i'm going to try and learn more everyday along with balanceing the games in so mixture of both would be a great combnation studying while playing games. thank you for looking at my thing because this is probally the one podcast that i like the most and it made me reliaard how hard i fell into teh game on the first week.
