  • The fact that students today almost always write for an audience (something virtually no one in my generation did) gives them a different sense of what constitutes good writing. In interviews, they defined good prose as something that had an effect on the world. For them, writing is about persuading and organizing and debating, even if it's over something as quotidian as what movie to go see. The Stanford students were almost always less enthusiastic about their in-class writing because it had no audience but the professor: It didn't serve any purpose other than to get them a grade.

    I'm learning more about Anime and Japan right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is what are some interesting events happening in Japan concerning Anime? I was researching this question online, and this blog caught my attention because McDonald's In Japan is getting an exclusive Tamagotchi Anime. I remember when I was little I bought a Tamagotchi. It was a cute little egg shaped device where you took care of a little pet. I'm really excited that Japan is getting a really cool Tamagotchi Anime it is something I would love to see. The blog states "The latest Tamagotchi! anime television series will premiere on Japanese TV on the 12th." I'm so excited for that I hope even though it is on Japanese TV I will be able to see it some how.

      There are many games similar to this.. such as maple story, flyff, ragnorak... its nothing new. The only thing good about WoW is the graphics and the fact that they update the game every single week. I'm rather tired of kinds of games because all you do is level and fight. It got pretty boring to me.

      But isn't one of the main attractions of video games to put people in an alternate world? I, in fact, don't think the game is very realistic. The whole idea of fantasy is what is so different from real world. I think that's what is most appealing.

      This does sound like Sims, however it is more fantasy. I guess it's what someone wants to get out of the game. I think that the idea of going on hunts and the whole monsters and dragons thing makes it very different than Sims.

      I agree. The game seems really confusing and pointless. I don't find it necessary to learn about a fantasy world that isn't really interesting or beneficial.

I think this is true because people feel happy when they play a game that they like. Whenever I'm bored and unhappy, I go to my computer and start playing one of my favorite games. I really like the examples that she gives. One of the examples is world of warcraft. Tons of people play this game and wish that it were to become true because people online are so much more cooperative than people in reality. Before watching this video, I never thought about this kind of stuff before. I've always wondered what kinds of new games they would create since games are starting to become boring. I think that there should be more reality games instead of make believes so that we can learn from those games to live a better life. We can treat those games as personal trainers. I think that it would benefit many people because because there is a high percentage attraction towards games.

I do wonder though what kind of technology would be produced. I hope it's pretty cool though like one of those future movies excluding the part where it takes over humans....I rather not be running around with little robots chasing me. I find that pretty interesting for the fact of its 2010 and it kind of like that now. I mean people are playing massively multiplayer games even today. Mostly online.     I'm learning more about zodiac signs right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: "How much of your personality is defined through your zodiac sign?" I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it talks about how horoscopes can benefit your love life if you allow yourself to go to an astrologist before you propose or take your relationship to the next level to find out your compatibility. The quote I chose here is basically saying that even though people barely believe in horoscopes, they still read them daily to see the successes that are going to be coming into their lives.     I'm learning more about "humble" right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: If one is used to the idea that he/she is smart but is trying to remain humble, can that person still be considered modest?" I was researching this question online, and this blog that contain a really great poem called "If" caught my attention because I feel this poem defines the word "humble" accurately. My favorite part in this poem is the first stanza. "IF - by Rudyard Kipling If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about don't deal in lies, Or being hated don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;" The first stanza actually reveals what a humble person really acts like. I suddenly realized that I'm actually not as humble as I have thought. For example, if all the others start to doubt me, I can't pretend nothing has happened and I will definitely try to prove that I'm better all of you have thought; if it turns out that their doubts are right, I'm probably going to lose my confidence and start to doubt myself too. I realized it's not what a humble person will do because a humble person never try to show him/herself, even if he/she is just trying to prove something, not necessarily showing off.

    Have you ever felt like you need to go shopping and shopping everyday until you brought everything you wanted? Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been Shopaholics. I remember seeing this movie last year that made me wonder about people who are Shopaholics. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that being Shopaholic is really bad because it damages your living style. From what I have heard, being Shopaholic isn't something bad. It's just a way of being. You just shop and shop. It's not like if you creating a crime. I know that it's like a sickness that can't make you stop. But if it's really affecting your life then you have to give that up. For example, I heard that Shopaholic is more like able to be out of control. Shopping does not only effect the shopper it also effects family members, spouses, loved ones and friends. Many times married over active spenders will be divorced and in debt before they can control their spending habits. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true. One thing that I know for sure about is that Shopaholics do suffer a lot when it comes to money. Many Shopaholics end up having a big amount of budget. And I also know that Compulsive shopping is a serious condition that affects thousands of people's lives in America. Another fact that I know is that one major key to successfully overcoming compulsive shopping is simply taking responsibility for ones own actions. Stop denying the problem and or blaming others. Shopaholics who truly want help need to say enough is enough. Once a shopaholic realizes that shopping is just not worth the troubles that are caused from shopping excessively things get much easier. Make the decision to change and change will come. Now I've studied my share of Philosophy, and I believe that if being a Shopaholic damages your life... then you should make a change to take that out of your life. Personally, it's funny to me

    I'm currently learning more about eating disorders, a very popular topic about teens. I am listening to a podcast that talks about girls blogging on the internet and joining forums chatting with other people who are also trying to become thin. Just listening to the podcast makes me really wonder whats wrong with the girls and why they are torturing their bodies like that. The podcast read a girls blog that said, " i forgot to delete the history on my internet and my mom had saw what i had been on. Anaboot camp anorexic queen etc. Now shes watching me like a hawk. Im only on now because shes at the pub. It was my 100 calorie diet and i did fine until dinner. She shoved a white roll down my throat and a bunch of chicken . probably like 300 calories. Ugh, I can feel myself getting fatter. I need tips to get her off my back." It's crazy how girls take their physical image so seriously.I would understand, because I'm a girl also, but I would never starve myself like that ! I would skip dinner, but I would Never survive off drinking tea the whole day. That's just really harmful to your body.The podcasts talks about ways they can help these girls recover from anorexic by promoting pro-recovery sites. However, not all of the users who went on those blog, were females. There were also males. What i found most shocking was that there was even a 54 year old who blogged about their diet... The blogs are very interesting because the people talk about what they are going their and express their feelings for people on the internet to see. The most helpful way to prevent younger kids to going on these pro-anorexia sites, is to talk to them about it and teach them about the consequences...

    this article is relatey to me because mt throat also hurt from singing too muc hthe saddest part is i have a vocal lesson today and i ahve to go which is preety bad i shouldt have sing yestherday than maybe my throat wouldnt hurt today than i will get to sing as much as i want today. it hurts becuase too much air went though my throat or soemthing now it hurts to swallow hopefully it will beb etter soo n im goign to try not to talk for like the rest of the day well at least a while. im goign to have to take train and another train to get to the place where im goign hopefully i get to the early train thna i wont have to miss a train even though im not sure waht time the train is hopefully is not too long im finally going to learn how to sing like a real person hahahha.

    Its horrible that survivors are now dying. They already been through the worst but now have to face even more struggles. Some of them are getting diseases as they wait laying under tents for doctors to save them. Some of them have big wounds and its not being treated. Their getting diarrhea and other sicknesses that can possibly kill them. Living in overcrowded tents and unsanitary conditions also add to the death tolls. Its already at about 200,000.

    I'm learning more about food security right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is how to reduce the chance of food insecurity and get a better way to produce more food. I was researching this question online, and this blog post, "Climate/Farming First" caught my attention because it answered my question and listed a lot of useful sources of ways. The quote I chose here is basically saying that the change of the climate affects the amount and quality of agricultural production directly. For example, greenhouse gas emission would affect the quality of the production or even reduce the amount of it. As a result, professors in various fields from all over the world tried to do research and explore ways to solve this problem. I think this is very amazing because I didn't know that the surroundings would also affect the agriculture production, which might lead to great food insecurity. It makes me wonder whether the experts have thought of good ways to solve the issue. I'm also wondering if I would also be able to contribute to their research in the future.

    its crazy to see thta so many places have people that are hungary and has no food to eat it makes me feel very foutnete to be the one with good food everyday and a good life i though that is very cool and great that i do. it makes me feel so much better about my life compare to other people i though that the poepl in afircna and china and other palces are very unfourtnite. speically in afican since there is alot of red palces i hope people go and help them soon enough because it really looks bad from here form thiss map that im looking at in many ways i thought that this really sucks for tyhem becuase they dont even have a poper edacations and other stuff so i though that it was unfair to them also if i was rich i would help them to gain a better life and a better central goverment.

    The map have show us how terrible food problem in the world,the most terrible food problem is in Africa,because the map show most of the country in the Africa have the food problem,some of the prevalence of Undemourishment in total population is over 35 to 50 percent.One of the place have over 50 percent.In china,there have a little food problem also.

    This map shows the percentage of people affected by hunger. As you can see, Africa is most affected by this world issue. Almost more than half of the countries on the continent is 35% or more affected. There are also places in Europe, Asia, South America, and some places in North America that have hunger. Surprisingly, you don't see anything in the U.S. [I wonder why! I guess it's because we're the fattest nation in the world!]

    I'm learning more about food securities and how we can change the world by helping out. In this map, I can see that poverty exists more in the southern regions of the world. I think that it's kind of ironic when these are the countries that the world rely on. It's where we buy our cotton, our coffee beans, bananas and corn.

    The food hunger crisis is a big concern for me now because its very sad and horrifying to believe that this is actually happening as I type this. I could never imagine what kind life this could be because I have been so lucky and blessed with the life I have. In a way, even though I am just a middle/average class type of person, I feel very rich and spoiled compared to these helpless poor people who are starving around the world.
