This article helps people who don't understand or think they understand what "feminism" is, to truly understand it. Listed in this article are a variety of words with definitions and some examples. Understanding the definitions of these words may help in a better understanding of the missions of the feminists and what they are up against.

In a nod to changing social norms and the rise of feminism, France expurgates "mademoiselle" from its list of acceptable social honorifics. One of my former students, a Francophile living in Europe, snarkily notes that while the French are at it, they should reinstate "mondemoiseau"--a title designating men who'd not reached "chevalier", or knightly status.

"A council in France has abolished the word 'Mademoiselle' from all official documents because it is 'condescending and sexist'. The Paris suburb of Fontenay-sous-Bois said the term - the French equivalent of 'miss' - discriminates against women by asking them to reveal if they are married. ... Julie Muret of campaign group Osez Le Feminisme, meaning Dare Feminism, said in September that the equivalent word for men of 'Damoiseau' - meaning squire - was abolished decades ago."

_Slate _ blogger Amanda Marcotte examines the decision of Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO, to disavow the term "feminist". Mayer suggested that she lacked "the militant drive" and "chip on the shoulder" often accompanying the term. Marcotte counters that "militant drive" and "chip on the shoulder" are code words for traits exhibited by those brave enough to challenge the sexist status quo, even at the risk of personal vilification.

As early as 1690, the terms "mademoiselle" and "demoiselle" were used to signify "unmarried female". In 2012, the French government struck the honorific from official forms and registries, as the result of pressure from two feminist organizations, who argued that no such sexist distinction exists for young males. "You've never wondered why we don't call a single man 'mondamoiseau,' or even 'young male virgin?' " the feminist groups ask on a joint Web site. "Not surprising: this sort of distinction is reserved for women."

This report studies 65 political influencers belonging to the Alternative Influence Network (AIN): an assortment of scholars, media pundits, and internet celebrities who use YouTube to promote a range of political positions, from mainstream versions of libertarianism and conservatism, all the way to overt white nationalism. AIN's savvy use of YouTube promotes radicalization and adoption of extremist political viewpoints. Content creators in the AIN claim to provide an alternative media source for news and political commentary. They function as political influencers who adopt the techniques of brand influencers to build audiences and "sell" them on far-right ideology. This report presents data from approximately 65 political influencers across 81 channels. These groups uphold a broader "reactionary" position: a general opposition to feminism, social justice, or left-wing politics. Members of the AIN cast themselves as an alternative media system by: * Establishing an alternative sense of credibility based on relatability, authenticity, and accountability. * Cultivating an alternative social identity using the image of a social underdog, and countercultural appeal. Members of the AIN use the proven engagement techniques of brand influencers to spread ideological content: * Ideological Testimonials * Political Self-Branding * Search Engine Optimization * Strategic Controversy
