If your student doesn't like to read long texts, as mine, then they are exactly what you need. At the end of every text, there are questions to check your student's reading comprehension. It worked pretty well with my student.

This is an Audio concentration game or memory game for elementary level students. The game practices the names of family members. The player needs to click on each card, try to remember the word and find another card with the same word to pair them. The game trains concentration skills, at the same time helps students learn the words through repetition.

Anyway, this is a good activity and can be effective for improving both reading and listening comprehension.

I would like to share my practice with you. While doing this activity with my neighbor's son who is 9 years old boy, he did the very first part enthusiastically and continued the activity up to the end with the same stage. What i liked in this activity is that if a learner's listening comprehension is not so well developed, there are some sub-sentences provided below by which they can understand the story.

This is a great site for intermediate's first grades to improve their reading and in some cases listening skills didn't include the beginning level in the tags since my subject (beginning level student) had difficulties in comprehension. However this site is quite useful for more advanced students.

Story- Beginner's Luck - 1 views

This is a wonderful activity for developing students' listening, reading (skimming and scanning), speaking skills, as well as increasing vocabulary. it contains variety of activities which are based on the listening. Moreover, all the activities can be done both online and on paper (all materials are printable including the transcript of the audio). It contains a pre-watching vocabulary activity the story a comprehension activity a language activity about idioms I used this material with my two intermediate students. Though the level was lower I have decided to try. In order to help them I wrote down the words/expression that they might be unknown and discussed them before listening. Then they listened to the audio but still had difficulties to understand completely what the audio was mainly about. In order to solve the misunderstanding I have decided to give the transcripts to read while listening (It helped much to understand). I used the third activity to check whether they could scan and skim the information (they could as I guess reading helped them very much). The last activity was a multiple choice activity where the students should look at the given idioms and choose the best meaning. Suggestion- If your students are not high intermediate/advanced the process will be slowed down. Just use transcript and after listening discuss the text. It will help.

Crossword Puzzle - 1 views

This activity is good for developing students' comprehension. How they would analyze the sentence which is given with the missing word. In this game students are provided with some help in the case of if they are not able to guess the answer. It helps students play with the words, match them with the given blank boxes and then fulfill them. I tried this activity with my 2 EEC students. They worked on it as a group and it was productive. The students got motivated because they were trying to guess the missed word the first.
