I was looking through the resources and also stumbled upon this one, since I enjoy music, I decided to include it. Well, that and the fact that one of the last inquiry units I worked on with some elementary students last year focused on the Depression and one group looked at its culture in California with migrant workers, etc. This would have been a great resource for them! The resource comes from the LOC and allows students to explore the culture and ethnicities of folk music during the 30s. There are audio clips to explore, sketches for instrument design and a lot of other cool things here.  I could see students easily using this resource for a history unit or a music class to better understand what life was like during the 30s. In a history class, students might investigate the outlook on life through the lyrics in some of the songs. In a music class, students might trace the development of the music and its instruments. With other resources, students could look at the way the music here has had an influence on what we listen to today. Just some thoughts.

This story maker would be great to use with elementary students who are learning about how words come together to create sentences and stories. The tool would be an excellent resource for students who struggle with writing and need a visual to help them see the relationship between text and pictures. It works kind of like a game, allowing students to select characters, backgrounds, plots, and items so that they can create their own stories. Students are allowed to see the images they create and, as they create these images, the story maker builds the text to tell the story so that students can see how writing comes together. Students are also given the ability to change the text and incorporate animations. Finally, students are given a code that lets them share the story they created with others.

I've used this many times in my classroom. The students love it!

At the same time there are Physics forums that can be accessed along with (among other resources) a virtual on-line Math lab ( West Texas A & M University) for GRE Math study sessions, Math for sciences, beginning, intermediate, and college Algebra. A student can go in and seek extra guidance or training (i.e. for a high school class) or it can serve as an extra challenge to tests the student's content knowledge before an exam. This part of the site is geared toward high school students (and college) while the initial page is also appropriate for elementary and middle school students. A great starter to click on a math term that an elementary student may begin to explore. I can see 4-7 grade students really liking this portion to review what they know and experiment with what the are/will be learning.

This little simulation illustrates how atoms act due to friction. The activity is simple, as it tries to show what happens microscopically between a chemistry and a physics textbook when they are rubbed together. When students rub the cutaway atoms together, they are able to see how they start to speed up and the thermometer on the side shows them how the faster they move, the hotter they become. When they let them sit for a while, the thermometer cools down and the atoms slow down. This would be a great way to provide a more concrete depiction of what happens with friction for those students who have a hard time grasping the concept through written description or static images in a textbook or handout.

Although the entire site is rich in content and gallery, I find the civil war portion very applicable to being a digital resource at the elementary, middle, and even the high school levels. There is no need to "log in" or have a "user" account. The information is rich with primary resources as well as poignant imagery.

Khan Academy would be a great resource for teachers and administrators looking for help with RTI needs. There are sections for every content area where students can test their skills via an online assessment. After several questions, content is adjusted to the specific learning level of the individual student.

This video can be used in the classroom to show the definition of Fair Use. Although the voices are very monotone it does a very nice job of explaining the misinterpretations of Fair Use and the consequences of not abiding by the rules of Fair Use and Copyright. I would embed this video with a link to this video and give the creators credit for creating if I were to use this in class.

I tagged this site because I think it helps teachers to save time. When the CCSS first rolled out, my district spent a lot of time reinventing the wheel. Much the the AASL Crosswalk, I think teachers would find this tool useful. I would first introduce this source to them in a quick over-view. I would then sit in small groups or one on one and help teachers realign their standards to the new the CC.

The 6th graders study social issues and many tend to choose environmental issues. The National Science Foundation OER would provide a source of information for students to narrow their topics during the research process. It provides current, up-to-date articles surrounding issues and discoveries scientists and researchers have recently discovered about various environmental issues of concern. Students are also required to write their opinion about their topic at the end of the research unit. I feel this OER resource would help students gain critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to write an opinion on an environmental topic.

I really like this site. I collaborate with the 5th grade teacher in my district to teach a similar lesson. This OER resource you found is something I will probably refer to in the future. Thanks!

This source would make a great reference to those looking to introduce the concept of a flipped classroom. I find the concept of a flipped classroom to be perplexing. Personally, I work in a district with a high poverty level. Students don't always have access to the materials needed to implement such a concept. Any resource to help the ground running or help you work out the kinks is worth the time to read it.

YouTubers, Authors, Philanthropists - John & Hank Green provide high quality educational videos in a variety of educational content areas. Economics, World History, US History, Literature, Astonomy, Chemistry, Politics & Government, - the list goes on! Very engaging and relvant videos for students. TLB

I think this is a great channel of video resources that my coworkers can use to change it up a little for students. They will find many topics/lessons that they currently teach on this channel. I will encourage them to use them in their classrooms, assign them for homework, assist with studying for a test or any other ways they see fit!

I would use this site to introduce concepts to students. These short videos are great attention getters. For example, I could use the video on Diseases to help students understand how far we have come in medical advances and to assist them in gaining an understanding of how easily diseases are transmitted. These could also be used as a flipped classroom format. Students could watch the content, take notes, and come prepared for the activity the next day.

At the #GoOpen Exchange on Friday, everyone was talking about OER and the need to curate. The Twiter feed shows the buzz around the trending event and it shows school librarians were at the table. As the initiative moves forward, it is critical for us to choose to be at the head of this particular table.

I wanted to find resources for reading as I am apart of the English Department at my school. We are always looking for resources to share with each other in our meetings. I came across this resource and found the grammar section. Many topics are presented such as contradictions, semi colons, sentences, etc... What really caught my eye were the videos towards the bottom of the page. Here they have videos that explain the differences between words that sound the same but have different meanings. They use toys and action sequences to explain which are very funny! Each of the grammar lessons have unique learning techniques, whether users need to select correct choices or simply view pictures that help represent the learning. I could see using or providing the examples given in many lessons.

I would suggest the use of this OER to 3rd grade teachers. Currently in collaboration with the library, 3rd grade students conduct a research assignment on the animal of their choice. Part of my collaboration effort is to teach the students about the various sources that are out there and how to use their effectively. I think this Encyclopedia would come in handy when students are prepared to collection information on their animal of choice.

TED videos would be a great video source to share with the 2nd grade teachers who teach insects. It has current videos, with fascinating facts and real pictures. The days of the Magic School Bus on VHS need to be transformed to show teachers new sources of videos to show to students, so students can be aware of the current issues with the insect world and learn new facts about insects that they may have never known!

This discusses the differences and misconceptions that people have regarding tradition versus online education. As pointed out, online was never meant to replace traditional. Rather, we should focus on the benefits of each education style. The author concludes, " All modalities serve a specific student population and purpose. The question should not be which is better, but which is more functional for each individual student."

This article gives ideas on how to use interactive boards in the classroom. Every class this year received a new updated smart panel. It is my job through professional development to encourage use and train the staff on the use of the new panels. This article will give them many ideas to integrate the use into their teaching.
