I would suggest the use of this OER to 3rd grade teachers. Currently in collaboration with the library, 3rd grade students conduct a research assignment on the animal of their choice. Part of my collaboration effort is to teach the students about the various sources that are out there and how to use their effectively. I think this Encyclopedia would come in handy when students are prepared to collection information on their animal of choice.
This is a unit that I could either teach collaboratively with the regular classroom teachers or use it to reinforce what the students are learning in reading and math

Awesome collection of tools, organized into categories for easy use: Organization & Collaboration, Search Engines & Directories, Google, Templates & Lesson Plans, Research & Reference, Games, Reading & Writing, Math & Science, Arts, History & Social Studies, Online Libraries, Activities. Share with staff for use in classrooms
Today's student generation is mobile, online and Internet-savvy. They are all computer gurus, and they often engage better with their electronics than they do with paper and pencil. As the saying goes, when you can't beat 'em, join 'em: charge into the information age as a 21 st century teacher.
This course could be used to help teachers who are interested in learning more about e-learning opportunities as flipped learning, moocs, etc. are gaining popularity in schools. I know a lot of teachers in my school district who would be interested in this kind of learning.
Although this TAG is a broad choice, I think the it would suit any classroom setting. I think a major draw to this source would be its alignment to the common core. I would introduce this source to teachers in a professional development setting, as well as refer to it in my own collaborative teaching efforts. (Now I just need to remember all my passwords and usernames for these sites.) :)
"Be Internet Awesome is a collaboration between Google and the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe.org). It is "a multifaceted program designed to teach kids the skills they need to be safe and smart online." The resource includes a game called, Interland, that can be a stand alone tool as well as a full curriculum that enables teachers to teach digital citizenship fundamentals. The lesson plans are geared toward grades 3 to 5." It think this is a great free tool from Google that I had not heard about that allows teachers to gameify Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship. I played the game a bit and I wonder if maybe teachers should take it, as we had a phishing spam a few years ago where teachers gave personal information online to an email that looked like it came from our local credit union.
I think that this OER is interesting. In a collaborative effort with the Chemistry department, these idea could be put into place. Often times, students are only able to read about dangerous chemicals to their danger factor of having them in schools. By sharing this reality app with the teachers in the Chemistry department, we could bring new experiences to the students. I'm excited to try this one out!
The 6th graders study social issues and many tend to choose environmental issues. The National Science Foundation OER would provide a source of information for students to narrow their topics during the research process. It provides current, up-to-date articles surrounding issues and discoveries scientists and researchers have recently discovered about various environmental issues of concern. Students are also required to write their opinion about their topic at the end of the research unit. I feel this OER resource would help students gain critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to write an opinion on an environmental topic.
I really like this site.
I collaborate with the 5th grade teacher in my district to teach a similar lesson. This OER resource you found is something I will probably refer to in the future. Thanks!
Best Websites for Teaching and Learning

Sites named as Best Websites for Teaching & Learning foster the qualities of innovation, creativity, active participation and collaboration.
To help states, districts, teachers, and other users determine the degree of alignment of OER to the Common Core State Standards, and to determine aspects of quality of OER, Achieve has developed eight rubrics in collaboration with leaders from the OER community.
To allow users to apply these rubrics and evaluate the quality of instructional resources, Achieve partnered with OER Commons to develop an online evaluation tool.
The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) illustrates how teachers can use technology to enhance learning for K-12 students. The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003). The TIM associates five levels of technology integration (i.e., entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation) with each of the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments. Together, the five levels of technology integration and the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments create a matrix of 25 cells as illustrated below.
Thank you for sharing this.
I am going to pass this source along to others in my district. I think it will come in handy when it is time to write PDPs. Many teachers are writing PDP goals that incorporate more technology into the classroom. I think this will help them define their steps and create a plan. Thanks!
DIY Education - City X teaches basic 3D modeling, printing & design thinking skills to highlight the importance of creativity in problem solving.
Global Connections - City X fosters cultural exchange & awareness by introducing possibilities for global collaboration.
Imagination - Given the opportunity to create without limits, what kind of world would kids create?
I love this idea to give a purpose to 3D design and printing! I would use it in conjunction with the Design Squad resource below.
