How to use Topo Maps in Trainz by colorado71 A. USING OF GLOBAL MAPPER 1. Configuration of Global Mapper Install Global Mapper on your computer. Download custom_shaders rar from http://trainz.uv.ro/tutorial/files/custom_shaders.rar Unpack the archive and copy the file custom_shaders.txt in the installation folder of Global Mapper. Run Global Mapper and select the option spectrum_trainz from "shader" bar on the program's tool bar. 2. Georeference your topo map Select the map (scanned map, satellite image, topo map etc.) you want to reproduce in trainz. You must know the geographical coordinates (latitude and longitude) of two points on it, so you can georeference it with Global Mapper. From the File Menu of Global Mapper select "Rectify (Georeference) Imagery" click OK and select your image. Open it and the dialog box "Image Rectifier" will appear. Zoom the image over the first point of which coordinates you know, select it, insert its latitudinal and longitudinal position as __/__/___ (for example 21/38/45) and press "add GCP to list." Proceed in the same manner with the second point. Save the image as GeoTIFF. 3. Select your future trainz map a) Open the map thus created with GlobalMapper. From the File Menu select "Export Raster and Elevation Data" - "Export GeoTIFF." In the dialog box which appear select "Export Bounds" and press "Draw a Box." Select the area of your future trainz map and save it as GeoTIFF. b) From the File Menu select "Download Online Imagery/Topo/Terrain Maps" (or simple open the DEM map for the area of your image map). Select the server from which you want to download the digital elevation map (http://seamless.usgs.gov/ or http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/ for example) and then press OK. From the File Menu select "Export Raster and Elevation Data" - "Export DEM," then select "Export Bounds" in the dialog box, and finally, press "Reset to Last Exported Bounds." B. USING OF MICRODEM 1.

Let me spin you a YARN ... - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

This announcement is a little slow since some of you have already noticed (like in this thread, for example), but I've released the first batch of my road models. A kazillion roads have already been created for Trainz but, nevertheless, none of them seem to meet everyone's needs. So I've created Yet Another Road Network -- a set of models mostly suited for modeling U.S. roads. These probably won't meet everyone's needs either, but hopefully some people will find them useful

replacing .pm with .im - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  •
"After running the PM2IM routine to create an .im file, then deleting the .pm file, I still always get the error about progressive meshes. It's like in some file other than the config.txt there is some reference to the old .pm file. This occurs every time I try replacing .pm with .im files, no matter what asset. Is there some step I'm missing, besides creating the .im file? "

A Busy Day at Union Station - 0 views

I normally create these routes for Virtual Railroader without any custom material so that you will not need to download additional material. For this route there are three items that are custom made, and which are available from the Trainz Download Station (DLS). I have added them to this route to enhance your enjoyment. They are all parts of one unit called a "Signal Box with Interior View." I wrote an article in the 1 May 04 issue of VMRJ entitled "Thinking Inside the Box" that details the use of the Signal Box. It might help to read that article and get an understating on how the Signal Box is installed and used. The Signal Box was first created by Jetstreamsky and then updated for TRS2006 by Alex23. The KUID numbers below are for the updated unit. Signal Box With Interior View kuid:193148:1198 SignalBox Interior kuid:193148:1196 Signal Box Telegraph Office Clock kuid:193148:1197

Stone_Ballast_Ironore_Industry - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

That industry appears to be created for TRS2006 according to the DS. Change the build number in the config to 2.4 and it should work fine, unless he's used some of the newer scripting features of TRS2006, which is doubtful. Smiley.

Interactive map making? - TrainBoard.com - 0 views

Interactive map making? Computers & Trains John- I'd highly recommend the following link... USGS Geography: The National Map Click on the "Go To Viewer" on the left, and a map creator will open up in a new window. You can use the "layers" on the right side to turn various coverages (things like hillshade, railroads, highways, topo maps, etc.) on and off, and once you have the map the way you want it you can export it out as an Adobe file. I created most of the maps in the Along the Line section on McCloud Rails (McCloud Rails Home Page- McCloud River Railroad, McCloud Railway Company, McCloud River Lumber Company) and many of the maps on High Desert Rails (High Desert Rails) using this source. Why not boot up Google Earth and try the first bit. Zoom into the start of your area at 500m and then place a placemark, and name it "1", hit CTRL+S to save the current screen, and then hit ALT+CTRL+S to save the Placemark. That part of the task takes 10-20 seconds, so it's not too bad. The next part of the stage you'd need to purchase TransDem. In TransDem you'd then hit: SHIFT+O (Load the Google Earth image) - couple of seconds ALT+R ( Load the Google Earth placemark) - couple of seconds SHIFT+U ( Convert to UTM) - between 5 and 10 seconds to complete ALT+S (Saves 2 files that TransDem uses in the final stage when it creates your route in Trainz) - couple of seconds As you can see, converting to UTM takes the longest, and when you have a load of them to do, that's the one that becomes the bottle-neck. I did all the Google Earth stuff first and only when I had all the pictures and placemarks I needed did I start the TransDem part. You can get free Dem data from http://netgis.geo.uw.edu.pl/srtm/Europe/ If the site is down, try searching on Google for "srtm dem" and you should find a link to the official Nasa site for Dem. Have fun. Smiley.

trigger rule for junction switch - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

a session contains all trains and industry instructions etc. If you open the route only as long as you do not delete, rename or alter a sequence that the session uses it will be fine. You can add scenery, texture, create new areas of the route and save. the session will still work. Open your existing session then save it as a different name (Default rule). Now delete all the trains and you are left with only the rules you set up. Save this as the default rule session. When you open this next time all the rules you set up are ready to go without having to redo them, just add trains for a new session and save under a different name in order that the default rule session is not altered. Uploading the route and the default rule session gives everyone the basic setup __________________ http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php...textsearchID=1

This is based on the classic British shunting (switching) "puzzle" Inglenook Sidings created by Alan Wright in 1979. The original track plan contained only two points (switches) and three sidings - I've added another siding for the loco, but this is not to be used while shunting (switching).

Thanks everyone - downloads pass 500,000 - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

I want to thank everyone who has downloaded some of my content. Although 500,000 downloads pales in comparison to some of the great creators that we have, I feel very honored that my content has been popular enough to pass the 1/2 million mark. Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement to keep creating and hopefully get better in what I'm trying to do. Mike

At the DLS there are, right now, 60 LARS-compatible freight cars available that were created by Meridious. Look for them under his KUID number (87907) or click on his DLS contributor ticket. All of the LARS-compatible freight cars have the letters LARS at the end of their file name.

Tutorial on moving custom assets to 2009 - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Hi Bob The title of that post is A simple Tutorial--Gmax to Trains I got to thinking a little more about your question. The link above is to my tutorial is the process I used to get an asset just created from Gmax into TRS2009 or TRS2006. There are some parts of that tutorial that would definitely help you but even that tutorial would be more than what you need to do. I'm not sure TRS2004 as it (in my understanding) does not have a content manager in it.( I might be wrong I haven't done anything with TRS2004.) But with 2006 you Use your CMP to locate your assets. Right click on each one of them and click save as CDP from the drop down menue. You take the all the cdp's that you've created and put them all in a folder that you know what the location of it is. Close 2006 Cmp and open Cmp2 in TRS2009. Go to file/import/and location of your cdp files/ and press enter on your keyboard and CMP2 will go to that folder and automatically install each and every asset that you made into a CDP into TRS2009. The key to TRS 2004 content I think is to figure out how to get those assets in CDP format.

Removing invisible items - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • What I did (TS2009, but I think it will work for TS2006) is in CMP, create a back-up of the asset you want to remove. Then delete the asset from the database. This will only work for assets not built in, as you cannot delete built-in. Once the asset is deleted in CMP, go back into TS, and use the "Delete missing assets" function. I do not think that just disabling the asset in CMP will do anything. Disabling only makes the asset no longer available in the Surveyor menu, but does not remove it from the route.

Tutorial: Saving Custom Displacement Maps in TS2009 - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • OK, Here are the steps that I was able to take to save a custom displacement map from the displacement map window. 1. Open the Advanced section of the Topology panel. 2. Use the Select Area tool to choose an area of terrain on the route. 3. Click on the Get Displacement button. A greyscale image of your terrain should appear in the window. 4. Now click the tiny Save Displacement checkmark in the upper right of the new image. 5. Fill in the name and description for your new displacement map. You can repeat the process as much as you like. All the maps you create are real TS2009 assets and will show up in CM2 ready for you to upload to the DLS.

Trainz/Removing Unwanted Assets - Wikibooks, collection of open-content textbooks - 0 views

  • The only problem is that you may delete a dependency that's used by another route. You won't find out until you look at all the routes you have installed and look for the missing dependency flag (or try to load the route). One way of reducing the impact is to archive the route and its dependencies (create a new archive for deleted routes). Carry on as before - deleting everything - if you need a deleted asset CMP will pull it from the archive. Once
