LAYOUT DESIGN FOR OPERATION - 0 views

  • THE INTERCHANGE Once you have loaded or emptied a car at one of the industries on your layout, where will the car go? It goes either: to another industry on your layout, or off your layout altogether. The latter requires hidden layover tracks, a hidden fiddle yard, and/or hidden interchange tracks. My "waybills" send empty cars to the interchange, and usually send loaded cars to the interchange. The interchange is switched "at night". The yard engine pulls from the yard the cars for the interchange, parks them, pulls the cars from the interchange tracks to the yard, and runs the parked cars to the interchange. Once the cars are in the hidden, off-layout track(s), the waybills are updated. All this adds operation and adds purpose to moving the cars around. SUMMARY

SP Vert-a-Pak auto carrier finished and releaced - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • The loads are animated and you can see the cars drive up on to the panels and fold up in to the train car. I think a first for trainz. Due to how I animated the loads when you load or unload the train cars there will be about 2 or 3 seconds where the car seams to not be loading. Just wait and you will see the cars appear and start driving up in to the train car. The model requires Slave-driver’s trucks from his ballast hopper packs located >Here< You can download the model >Here<

Question about Industry unload - Trainz Discussion Forums - 1 views

  •
"Is it possible to drive a consist to an industry and unload only 1 car. I would like to drive a consist to Goods shed no 1 and unload car no 1, drive to goods shed no 2 and unload car no 2, etc. This seems like a simple thing to do but I can't figure out how to set it up. Any help is appreciated. "

Moving yor freight with LARS - 0 views

  •
At the DLS there are, right now, 60 LARS-compatible freight cars available that were created by Meridious. Look for them under his KUID number (87907) or click on his DLS contributor ticket. All of the LARS-compatible freight cars have the letters LARS at the end of their file name.

Down to the Basics pt1: Sense of Operation - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I use Maggs Re-rail portal along with pguy's Portal Timetable rule for interchanges. It will emit a string of cars at the time you want without an engine. They appear on the interchange track, that piece of track on which both railroads have joint rights. I then pick them up with my switcher. Dropping off cars is a bit of fun because you have to drop kick them into the interchange track (portal) or you will loose your engine. I find if I get up to a speed of 20mph pushing the string of cars, uncouple the engine and cut the throttle, the cars roll into the interchange track and I reverse and go back to the yard. This allows more than one interchange operation per session - like one in the morning and one in late afternoon. One could also use AI to bring the foreign road train onto the route and do the drop-off and pick-up, but I have had problems with that in the past. I think once you start to use portals, you will find there are many possibilities. Do you have any grade crossings with other railroads? This always makes for an interesting operations feature. There is a diamond crossing rule that takes care of the signaling. My road has 9 grade crossings with foreign roads, all of them with active cross traffic.

LARS, PROTOLARS & MIN - Page 2 - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Bingo! I made a rake of four of them, drove them up to the ProtoLARS, waited the one minute delay and then one by one the cars unloaded. After the last car was unloaded the first car loaded with the tank containers and so on until they were all loaded. It's brilliant. I haven't tried it with other products (yet) but I have no reason to think that they won't work.

more realistic AI-driver attitude - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • more realistic AI-driver attitude I would like to see (as an update to all Trainz-Versions or at least as part of any new Trainz-Version) more realistic artifical inteligenced drivers in Trainz.
  • As for the "Ball and Flag" system given in this and another thread, we have the "Wait for Trigger..." driver command, which, I admit, is hidden by default. Go into the driver commands rule to make it visible. With enough forethought, it behaves in exactly the same way, Just on triggers and has to be inserted for every driver using that single track. Though that only works with AI. Us humans have the layout map. Having these automated systems would be a help, but there are already driver commands that work the same way.
  • I agree that the shortest route thing is annoying as well. I've gotten around it by by placing a trackmark on the main track, and I use that when I'm programming the drivers. Another thing I've done is to place a freight car or two on the sidings to force the AI to take the mainline instead of driving through the yard. I agree with Stefan. The routing should be based on locale rather than built-in short-distance seeking algorithms, which I think cause a lot of overhead on the program because the AI system is constantly seeking for an open path. • Similarly the idea of operating a train through a series of switch backs, switching industries, or turning a locomotive on a Wye (all referred to in item 4 in Stefan's original post) can be handled by way of trackmarks. In the case of a switchbacks, simply put a trackmark at each deadend point, so that setting up an AI driver on route with switchbacks becomes "drive to trackmarK 1" followed by "Drive to Trackmark 2", &c. Same way for industry switching and turning trains: assigning trackmarks allows for the dispatcher to provide directions to AI drivers to Drive to the Trackmark for Stefan's Warehouse and uncouple car 123456" then Driver to Trackmark for JCitron's warehouse via trackmark 3, and uncouple car 125789."
  • That remote control system (changing a junction from three miles away) can already be done with triggers or trackmarks (depending on which rule you use).

New route - Downtown Traction Company - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • -EDIT-- It's freeware from Trainz Eastern routes on the Youngstown Southern Railway Page. The page wasn't available when I tried just now, so I hope that the locomotive still is available.
  • I currently have 2 F30's released, and series of F22 flat cars. here's some links CR F30-a PRR F22's PRR F30-a There's not much good 1950's era content out. That i know of. but if u search majekear on the DLS u should be able to find a good amount of 40ft boxcars with animated doors and hopper cars.
  • Nice, but those overhead wires look a bit too modern. Search on the DLS under the user names jaleel or motorman1066 for some more appropriate ones.

How to use invisible track with driveable objects? - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  •
Place the track on the ground, and use the "Adjust Spline Height" button in advanced tab to raise it to the height(s) you require for an airplane, helicopter, ship or drivable car or truck. Place your intended locomotive object (any drivable object) on the track in Surveyor. In driver, the track will be invisible. I suggest adding invisible speed limits and/or signals as well.

Editing the Driver schedule while in session - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I have setup one of my AI drivers to drive a schedule which consists on "coupling" to freight car and then driving to the freight car then hauling to to unload and then i have it set to repeat. My question: Is there away or a rule to remove the "couple" command from the schedule during the session., besides doing it manually?
  • I would set up in the schedule library two sets of commands: the first with the couple/uncouple command and the second one omitting it. Use the 'copy commands from' and insert the first library command, then 'enable repeat' and then finally the second library command. What this does is the first time the train will perform the couple/uncouple action and then in the future repeats of the route this action will not be performed.

Splitting a train automatically - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Ive been doing this for years, dont use a trigger as another train can sometimes set it off. You need a spare driveable asset (I use a car parked in the station car park), it will need a driver which you set up with all the commands for the tasks he will do as the second train. You need two trackmarks at each end of station named say P1 Dn and P1 Up. You will need the commands Post Message and Wait for Message and clear also the move to train at trackmark. Dont use move to train as the commands dont go with the driver. Add to the start of spare drive the command Wait for Message.

Splitting a train automatically - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • If you have your train drive to a trackmark and uncouple. The first section then departs via a trigger. A spare engine is parked in a siding and when the trigger is activated its driver moves to the remaining part of your train and then drives it in accordance with the instructions you have already input for him. i.e Main train has instructions similar to.. Drive to trackmark, Uncouple from, Drive to London. Spare engine has instructions similar to ... On trigger move to unit x. Drive to Bristol.. This should also work in reverse so that you can re-couple the two sections of your train and return the spare driver to the spare loco.
