      I find this too be all too common, districts often try to implement new tech or just new resources and want teachers to attend on their own time. This is a systemic problem across education, I know that as a teacher I value my personal time away from school, and when I am asked to attend a training on my own time and money, I get a slight bit perturbed.

      This is the hardest thing for new teachers to understand, in my opinion. I feel that they see having or not having a particular device is going to make or break the students' learning. It really isn't about the device, the device just helps enrich and expand an already good lesson base.

    Sticky #1: I think the best way to get someone on board is to show results. I would do research into how other districts that have implemented a similar program have improved their students learning. Also look at the steps taken by districts that had a successful implementation, and how far or close our district is to being able to do the same. Sticky #3: They probably didn't have an effective implementation plan. It's easier said than done. It could be teacher training on the how to use devices or how to incorporate them into their curriculum. I think that's something that districts need to focus on, is the education of teachers on the technology and continual monitoring and assistance. Sticky #4: They probably should have invested in ensuring that wireless coverage would be good enough to carry out online lessons before moving on to actually implementing the technology. More research could have gone into lessons that were aligned into the state standards. Sticky #5: I think that teacher training is very important to the survival of technology programs. School districts need to realize this and invest in providing professional development for its teachers. My school district is very good at providing professional development opportunities, unless it's very outrageous, our requests for professional developments get approved. Sticky #6: I wouldn't say that this thinking is exclusive to new teachers. I think in general some teachers will hear of a new technology that is all the rage and must have it because without it they will never catch up to other districts. I agree with you its not about the device, its about how its going to be used to enhance the lesson.

    This article was a perfect read for me right now. We are in the beginning phases of a 1 to 1 program in our school using iPads. I keep trying to tell the other teachers and admins that getting apps and devices are the easy parts of design model, but what are we going to do with apps and devices, is the hard part? I like how the article says to focus on one subject and give teachers trainings that are organized and well focused. As the instructional technology coach for our campus I have my work cut out for me and getting teachers trained. I can't wait to help these teachers understand how use the iPads to facilitate problem solving and higher level thinking skills.

    1 to 1 needs to be more grade/need specific. We cannot use a PENCIL for all activities at all grade levels in all schools. We need to keep this concept in mind as we move to implement innovations. AND we need a plan that is shared with all stakeholders BEFORE we even decide on which device(s) to purchase! Then we need a training and implementation plan to assist teachers, students and administrators!!! Hmmmm.

    Candace you are so right! Finding what you will use is easy, but the challenging portion is using it effectively to transform learning. Mrs. Evans I agree plans need to be shared with everyone, because often times when the plans aren't shared there is less buy in to the program.

    Would a committee work in these cases? Perhaps having a sampling of everyone involved would help in this situation! Then professional development is essential!

    A committee would work, but only if the committee truly represented the population accurately (sorry I so sounded like a math teacher there). I think it is an idea worth exploring, maybe on a smaller scale first.

      I completely agree with you! However, I do feel that the reason for our delay in integrating technology in classrooms is solely due to lack of proper training & experience. We must do all we can to properly educate our teachers and help build their confidence with tools that are foreign to them.

    I really like how this article gives teachers ideas about how to integrate the technology into their classrooms. I think all to often we focus on just learning all these new tools. I have many teachers in my district that know how to use the tools, but they don't know how to use them with their curriculum. I do however, notice that a lot of this article focuses on the secondary classrooms. Primary is often forgotten in many of these types of articles so it's important for us to make sure we are looking at the entire spam of grade school.

    I agree with the article that technology should be incorporated into classrooms, but that it should be implemented in a way to extend learning and as a tool to support the traditional subjects. It shouldn't be used once in a while or as a project just like the article says because then it'll take away from learning the main curriculum. An educator must take the time to find technology, think of ways to implement it into their curriculum, and learn it well enough to properly integrate it. What's useful about the article is that it offers ideas to educators on how they can get started.

    I think that technology is very important in the classroom. There will be a time when technology will be fully integrated 100% in our classrooms. Some teachers do not use it because of lack of preparation and training. Students can find information on current events just by using the technology and there is so much that can be done and incorporate into our classroom curriculum!!!!

    I love the ideas, I jotted some down for me to use as well. I think when teachers are mandated to use technology in the classrooms they can sometimes be fearful of what that entails. I know the teachers on my campus at times fear meeting with me to start planning because they assume its a huge ordeal and they will have to adapt their teaching around the technology, when it is in fact the opposite! The best way, in my opinion, to integrate technology is to make the technology work for you!

    Great and interesting article. I love the ideas that we have to incorporate technology into our daily lessons. The students from this century are already born with digital literacy in them. It is what motivates them, so why not allow them to use it for educational purposes. Teachers are not properly trained and they are instructed to keep teaching because the students will TEST.

      How often should digital classrooms incorporate technology into the lesson when you have a standardized test that is paper based? Won't students become too dependent on technology that it will affect their test scores?

    Even if the test is paper based, I don't think incorporating technology into the lesson could be detrimental. As long as the instructor uses the technology to supplement his/her instruction to better get material across to students, then they are fine.

      The question I have is how to integrate the games out there into the curriculum. I think it's hard to do because with limited teaching time, taking time to play a game without having a good basis in content feels frivolous. And yet by the time students understand the content, there may not be time for games. The games out there might not match the content being taught very well.

    Great article! At our school, we have several online reading & math games that we allow students to play. I'm all for gamification. I didn't realize there was a name for it, LOL. To answer your question, we use Everyday Math as our math curriculum. They have a wonderful website that is just a GREAT resource to teachers & students. For instance, it offers interactive teacher lessons. I use them daily & my students and I LOVE them! More importantly, it offers Everdaymath Online games. These are games that go along with our math lessons. Teachers can also assign games as homework. The website keeps track of how often students are playing the games and how they are progressing, or not, with a certain skill. From my experience, there are many ways to integrate games into curriculum but administrators must research that prior to choosing a particular curriculum. No matter what the situation, all it takes is a little research & comparison. The technology & games are out there....on the world wide web. Thanks for sharing!

    There's a real need for technology experts at schools to do more than reboot stalled operating systems and hook up new mice. Finding viable programs in the sea of options out there is one of them. One of my teacher friends seems to just use whatever sites, games, applications she can find willy nilly. She's happy to try anything. Her students do well but I wonder how random it is. It'd be nice to plan something that had progression to it and made more connections. I know she doesn't have time or money to spend on finding truly great programs and believes that trying them out and discarding them if need be is good enough.

    This type of interaction gets me excited because I have my students play CoolMath games on computer when they are done assignments but I am always finding games and tech 2.0 tools to incorporate for their learning. I love searching and attending workshops to help update my portfolio of tech tools. One tool that my students have found extremely engaging and they love to use is KAHOOT! This is a fun program to use for tests/assessments because it gives you the amount of correct answers and it saves you time, paper, and is a great tool to use for a test grade. https://getkahoot.com/

      Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites can be a very effective tool for communication as well as a channel for harm. We have used Facebook as a base for a discussion community for the students and faculty in the our allied health programs here at El Centro as well as the surgical technology program I headed at Collin College. It gives the students an opportunity to communicate with each other and their instructors in an orderly asynchronous manner (much better than e-mail.       You are right in regards to Twitter and Facebook as effective tools of communication but many times we have seen everything from students, teachers, parents, etc. who upload inappropriate pictures or comments and then face the negative consequences.

      Seems to me like this is to be expected and even advantageous. I mean a) terrorists are usually only effective if they are smart and it would be stupid for them to not take advantage of all forms of communication and recruitment available to them, and b) since these site are often not well secured and are well know by our own intelligence community it actually helps all peace-loving governments if terrorists DO use them as it makes their plans and colleagues more vulnerable to observation and counterintelligence. I find sites like Facebook and Twitter to be the low hanging fruit of communication and we should be lucky that terrorists aren't using more sophisticated methods more often.

      As I am reading this, I am thinking about how advanced VR simulations have become and how can we use this in education? The obvious cost savings on teachers, materials, etc would be phenominal if we had a virtual chemistry lab, physics lab, etc. Then I searched virtual chemistry lab and found several websites with just that!

      I see VR contributing to the ability of technology to blur the line between digital and real, but I don't believe VR will have to have the "V" in it for very much longer. Let me explain. There are many tools that blend digital and real. In the last two weeks I've read stories on two of them: this one highlights how smartphones can be controlled by human gestures (http://goo.gl/zzexlT), and this one, the capability of some modern game systems to be also controlled by gestures (http://goo.gl/C0viR8). In both cases our physical reality is helping shape and form a digital reality. Then consider Aurasma (www.aurasma.com/), a site that enables users to associate digital "overlays" over real life images, or "triggers." This technology enables us to bring the digital into reali life. We cannot know what will happen, but my guess is that digital immersion via VR is less likely to take off as quickly as digital integration into real life. When they come up with a VR machine that can replicate smells, tastes and micro sensations like the wind or water against my skin, I may have to reconsider this prediction!

      Exposure therapy has changed many peoples' lives. Never before has the concept of "facing your fear" seemed more possible as virtual realty allows individuals to work through deeply rooted and even quite rational psychological responses in a safe and controlled environment. In fact, I would be interesting to see a study that investigated if soldiers who have had extensive VR simulation training BEFORE going to war zones experienced more or less (or the same) instances of PTSD.

      Jose this is an interesting application of virtual reality technology. I see real value in using it as a form of therapy for PTSD (and there's certainmly a need!), but any virtual world based on the real world used for military applications makes me a bit uneasy. I guess this is a lot like those Germans throwing the Google Street View van out of their neighborhood a few years back...sometimes there is TMI with technology. Honestly, I'm not sure that I trust either the military or Google with anything approaching real-time satellite feeds (which is what we're approaching) for "training purposes." It approaches the surveillence state I hope we never have to face as a society.

      With the recent scandal of Eric Snowden's leak of classified information about the global surveillance by the NSA, I understand the concern when the military or any other agency wants to use Virtual Reality but there are good benefits. For example, some units use the virtual reality system EST 2000 where soldiers are able to work on markmanship skills, collective squad level training and judgmental use of force scenarios.

      The potential for education applications for VR are staggering. We are already beginning to use VR in the health sciences, nursing and medical education settings. There are a number of VR simulations for surgery that can be used by medical students, interns and residents as well as for nursing and surgical technology students. In the area of robotics surgery VR is often used to train surgeons how to use the system before they attempt it for the real. VR is also being used to explore procedures and treatment options to map out approaches and to anticipate patient reactions to various treatments. Unfortunately the technology is still very cumbersome, expensive and sometimes wrong in very surprising ways.

    Unfortunately this is the sad reality of today's technology. There will always be those that find ways to twist new technologies created for the good of humanity into weapons. I can see how web 2.0 and virtual worlds could be used by terrorists. For example, people could theoretically communicate on collaboration networks, meet on Second Life, and ultimately finance an operation using internet currency such as bitcoins.

    When I first read this article, I was skeptical as to how effective Virtual Realty would be in treating PTSD. I just don't understand how reliving a traumatizing experience over and over makes it less bearable. Well according to an article I found, it seems to work. According to the Journal Cybertherapy and Rehabilitation, virtual reality exposure therapy has shown a 66 to 90 success rate. That is impressive.     It is scary to think that Web 2.0 tools that are supposed to be safe and helpful are being used by terrorists. After the Target hack during Black Friday, I have been very scared to use my card there. I got a new bank card and changed my pin, even though I wasn't one that was "affected" , because it made me feel a little more secure. Apparently it can happen everywhere. As far as the virtual reality therapy, I found an article that mentions several ways how it helps and the first one is how it helps with PTSD.       Dumbing down online conversations has become the norm. To me personally, I believe that it a cautionary approach to communication since the impersonal tweet or IM is too often misinterpreted. What follows is usually personal offense since there are no other cues to communication when you are online. Therefore we dumb down our communications. Even just having a voice conversation is better than posting anyday.

    It would be very nice if our students learn to make eye contact with each other as well...:) I cannot tell you how many times a day, students stand at my desk waiting for me to read their minds as they converse on cell phones and listen to their earbuds...I am supposed to assume they would like to use a computer and sign them in. I like to just wait them out...and I frequently say, "Words are your friends! Use them to ask for what you want!"

    I went to check my 18 year old son's cell phone usage and in one month he had 3143!! What do he and his friends text about is beyond me. Texting to him is so second nature, that he could with out a doubt do it without even looking at the keys. However, even with all his texting, he can hold a conversation. I feel this has to do with experiences that he has had in his life. It also helps that he is not shy. In the elementary level this not a big issue because they all love to talk not only to each other but to their teacher. I like the idea of having students use their phones to record themselves speaking, debating, etc...     "Muzzle Memory" is what my daughter developed with her cell phone when I was trying to hold a decent conversation. Every time we had a conversation, she had to pick up her smart phone to check or send a text message. Her actions were not due to a rebellious attitude but to her muzzle memory. It's part of their life and I constantly see it here at my workplace. Many can't live without looking at their phone throughout the day even in meetings. I have to constantly call out people who are on their phone while the meeting is in progress. I find it hilarious when people get grumpy since their phone is nowhere near them for motivational support.

    Thanks for the comments! So, what do you all think would be some ways to engage learners using both technology and human interaction? I like the way it is handled in classes I've taken through the EdTech program. I like using the technology to learn but I also like the fact that we get together 'live" and are able to interact with the instructors and each other.

    Although texting may not teach our students how to converse well, there is a lot of technology out there that promotes the skills of a good conversationalist. Below is a link which the author talks shows how technology is helping in kindergarten. Jeff, I think there are many opportunities.     I have said it before but I think it is worth saying here again. I don't think the technology or even the format of the technology is the problem. the problem is our understanding or misundertanding of how the technology can and should be used. We have always had some form of short and to the point communication whether it was a bulletin board, an announcement or a short phone message. Short messaging and quick messaging have indeed become more prevalent but that does not mean that internet technologies can't be used to promote communication. We need to recalibrate ourselves and begin studying how best to use technology in promoting communication which in turn promotes collaboration and cooperation. It may well turn out that the communication of the future looks fundamentally different from what we have seen in the past but it doesn't mean it will somehow be inferior. In fact, if we consider just the ability to communicate information and respond to immediate concerns the communications system we have evolved (or maybe revolutionized is a better word) into today is in fact far superior to what we had available to us only 10 years ago. Often times we see something as a problem or an issue because it is not what we are used to or accept as the norm when in fact what we should be doing is looking for the opportunity that has just presented to us. I believe that as a society we are in one of those pivotal moments of paradigm shift. This is one of those periods where people will look back from the future and call it the "Age of ????" What they choose to call it will depend on their perception is of how well we handled the moment and how well we adapted to the new situation. Think back to the the bronze age and the revolution that metal working brought to mankind. Compare today to the age of steam or the industrial age. I believe the comparison is warranted and that in fact this may be a more important time in human development than some of those earlier "ages".

    At the beginning of the year, I was surprised how many devices we took up in my elementary school. We have a box in the school office designated for devices. The students, as young as 2nd grade, check them in in the morning when they come to school and check them out as the school day ends. Many of those students are still learning social skills so I can understand how devices given to children that young and used freely, can influence their social skills. On the other hand, devices are great to use in education if used properly.

    Jeff, That is a good question. What are some ways to engage learners using both technology and human interaction? The first thing that comes to my mind is the reflection process. For example, students can gain and collect their information using a device and reflect on their findings with one another through human interaction. Maybe give it a "contest" theme and allow them to "one up" each other with their information. Of course, the expectations would be adjusted per grade level but this would provide an opportunity to use a device AND talk to each other. Two things kiddos, especially little ones, already love to do :).

      Personally, I think the 10,000 hour is a generality for typical person. But we are all A Typical is something. My mom also has 10000 hours + driving but her eyesight is terrible. She is not an excellent driver. It follows the Mastery Learning model: Anyone can master anything is given enough time. Time is a variable, thus 10000 to one is 50000 to another.

      I met her at ISTE 2013 in San Antonio. I bought her book Reality is Broken and got her to sign it. I had a question I wanted an answer to... where did she find the diminishing returns (I wanted to ask her this because it would establish my cred. as a gamer (world of warcraft) and because gaming caused a lot of problem in my life and marriage). Her Keynote there was about this very subject... the real world problems gaming solves. Her answer to me was 21 hours a week... per person. Wow!!! She advocates up to 3 hours per day of gaming.     I recently returned from a holiday in Orlando, Florida, where I was privileged to be able to attend "Minecon", a convention for the popular sandbox game "Minecraft", developed by Mojang AB. Personally I'm a big fan and long term player of the game, and I'm amazed at how this 'phenomenon' has swept across the world.

    Most definitely, MinecraftEdu represents the start of a new approach to learning (mixing something the student enjoys, with an educational environment). Gaming is not necessary to include in a teacher's curriculum, but the way it is implemented through MinecraftEdu is amazing. It makes a big difference in the motivation the student will demonstrate through a game. The student will be 100% successful! They are able to make connections to their daily lives.

    I think gaming is an essential part of teacher curriculum. Anytime you are able to tie gaming into learning you are going to engage and hook students into learning without them realizing it. I really like how MincraftEdu lets you create your own environment to set students in a virtual setting. It reminds me of Second Life in that sense. Great article.

    You mention that you used Minecraftedu with positive results and shared it with colleagues. Did they use it? Were they successful? I am not sure that is is necessary to include in a teacher's curriculum but it would sure be fun. I think we need to find great ways to connect with these students and gaming (even the word alone) creates a positive stir in our learners. Perhaps one day there will be a gaming component in our curriculum.

    Gaming sounds like a great idea to be integrated in teachers curriculum. My concern is with violence. Does this game include violence? If it doesn't that is great. I like that this game can be used for every subject. Teachers can actually obtain a great benefit from it. Specially since nowadays students are really into those types of games that include building. It would be a great replacement for parents also to buy for their children instead of the non educational games.

    I couldn't agree more about standardized testing. I saw a quote one time that stated, "teachers are required to differentiate instruction to students who need to pass a standardized test." Makes one think. Our campus is currently preparing for the Writing STAAR next week. Our 4th grade teachers are doing an awesome job at trying to keep it fun. For instance, they are calling this week Writing Boot Camp and keeping all things military. Wearing camo all week, moving up a rank each time they complete a mission (homework) and then holding a boot camp graduation (party) at the end of the week are just a few of the fun activities planned. My favorite is when they march up and down the halls chanting..... momma, momma can't you see, what 4th grade has done for me.....

    Merrill, I love that idea of Writing Boot Camp. This gives the students a nice break from the same routine of passing the STAAR and only focusing on the test. I will definitely share this idea with my grade level and with 4th grade so maybe they can incorporate something fun like this for next year.     We too use Writing Boot Camps...we've noticed a huge correlation bt student's ability to write and their performance on other subject-area assessments, not to mention general weaknesses in writing TEKS. Each summer we do a Writing Boot Camp to help address those, and it seems to be paying off. Our scores have shown improvement!

It's amazing to think how much more those kids are learning about world cultures from this kind of experience vs. reading about it in a textbook or listening to their teacher lecture. I would not be against a "bring your own device" policy to school if the proper policies and procedures were in place, even for the elementary level. In a lot of cases, bringing in the outside world into education could be of significant benefit. While working with our school Ipads yesterday, I took a poll in two of my kinder classes on who had some kind of tech device at home (not mom or dads, but their own). More than 1/2 the class raised their hands and proved their skills with a library Ipad. The poll provoked some thought, it is more important than ever to provide 21st Century learning opportunities for the younger grade levels as well.

      At first, I had mixed feelings about the "bring your own device" concept until I started learning how to use a digital device in a classroom with the help of my EDTC graduate courses. I had an old school mentality until last semester when my flip phone gave up and I made the transition to a smart phone.       While I find 1:1 policies laughable (I have yet to see a school district not lose millions of dollars on these kinds of programs), I think that BYOT policies are great, as long as the teacher has some technology (I have a set of netbooks) that students who are without their own device can use. I DO think this brings the outside world into the classroom, but I also think that this is a good thing. And those teachers who find the outside world to be a distraction can still use technology; they just need to use closed systems like Edmodo.

      While my students are older than what we are typically talking about here I have tried to incorporate the use of personal electronic devices in the classroom for some time now. For example, I have on occasion sent my students on an internet scavenger hunt for items or information related to the content of lecture. One of the impediments to using personal electronic devices is the disparity of quality and capability based upon cost. To get around that I try to have the students work in groups using whatever devices they have available to them in their respective groups. This also creates an opportunity for collaboration.

    Merrill, I like the idea of Flipped Teaching, where lessons are recorded and then viewed later in the classroom. I am not sure how I would feel hearing myself give the lesson, but the kids would love it. I am sure my students get tired of hearing me give a lesson, but if I was recorded, they would possibly be more engaged with the lesson simply because I am on the computer. It is very noticeable when we do online activites, compared to just lecture, that they are more attentive. As far as the 1:1 program, I teach 3rd grade, so our district does not "allow" that type of technology in the classroom. Students bring cell phones anyways, but to use them in the classroom is not ok. Budget is always a concern on my campus, so we do not have enough technology, such as kindles and iPads, for every student. We can request them ahead of time, but that is only for the day. I can understand how it may be a distraction in the classroom, like being on other programs or texting with others. However, for the most part, students would do what the lesson call for.     I teach math, and although I don't flip my classes, I provide videos or links to videos for my students to watch at home. Videos have been a good resource for my students, especially those who miss class. My favorite sites for finding videos are Kahn Academy and LearnZillion. https://www.khanacademy.org http://learnzillion.com My school has also banned student devices due to the misuse of them in school. I find it frustrating and would love to hear how other schools have handled students using their own devices to school.

    The reason I like videos and links is so that students have access to the learning when they decide to learn it! I see way to many high school students wasting their class time and hope that they have the video or link listed somewhere when they finally see that the lesson was important not...that being said, it is crucial that the lessons we are tying to teach are important! Real world applications again...not just tests.

    I come from a corporate perspective and would definitely like to bring more of these types of concepts to the adult "classroom" or training situation. I think kids "get it" more, though. I notice that the adults all around our company still have trouble with just basic computing skills. So, while I'd love to adopt more mobile type learning, I wonder how it would be received. For my kids, I think they'd really accept it because they are so used to all of these devices.

    So many cool applications! Maybe I'd take my class for a virtual tour somewhere, depending on what I was teaching. For example, in our new hire orientation, we could go on a virtual tour to some of our community hospitals so they can see what they look like.

      Of course the answer isn't going to be back and white, but my answer would is "Maybe." Online games definitely address the issue of student motivation more effectively than KWL charts. I find KWL charts get old really quickly for students, just like anything you do over and over. So as teachers we try to switch it up, add variety, etc. An effectively designed online game could be a great change of pace. It seems like there would be a learning curve for the teacher as well, though. The teacher would have to get used to being able to quickly assess student progress on the screen.       Does anyone else ever feel like pre-assessment (I mean the kind that really gives you valuable data), takes more time than you have to give it? I always feel pressured by the amount of content that must be covered before the STAAR test. Pre-assessments and differentiating instruction are things I do but I don't think I do them all that well simply due to a lack of time. This online game might be a helpful tool and yes, I do believe it would probably give more accurate information than a KWL chart. With the KWL charts students share too much information with each other.

      Thank you C. Hilgeman, I think you make a good point. No matter what you do, if you do it over and over, it gets boring. I think even if they played the same games repeatedly they would get bored. If the program that they are talking about in this article allows for a variety of games and continues to challenge, then maybe it would prevent the mundaneness of doing the same thing all the time. ksspurgin, I think the pre-assessment does take a lot of time. I know that I don't give one because in order to cover all my material required by testing I really need to start my material on the second day of class. That leaves no time for pre-assessment. I think if I had an electronic pre-assessment like the game, it would be much easier because it could process the data for me versus me having to take time to do it when I needed to be preparing materials for the six weeks.

And by circulating during class, I can support students with targeted feedback.       Differentiated instruction is not a new term, it has been around awhile. I think most teachers still struggle with differentiating instruction enough to reach all levels of learners in their classrooms.       I love this term, "Goldilocks zone" to describe what they call the "sweet spot." It is a challenge in every class to find this pace for each student. I always seem to have some students who breeze through the material, which makes me feel it may not have been challenging enough. On the same token, I have students in the same class that are struggling and expressing that I am going to fast. I think if I could have a educational game that challenged each student at their proficiency level and allowed me to be sure each of them got the attention and support they needed to obtain the knowledge needed, I would be ecstatic!

      I am not sure if it is the case everywhere, but I know at the district I am teaching at a technology credit is required for graduation. I remember taking a C++ class while a Senior at the high school in my district. Has it come in handy for me, do I even remember anything, no. I think it can't hurt to have it required even if it did not service to me. It at least got me comfortable with computers and increased my typing ability.

    @Maricela Gonzalez Thanks for the link. This is a great link so that I can see what tools have not been mentioned by my other classmates. Unfortunately I am not in a 1:1 school, but maybe one day I will. To answer your questions, I really like google products. there is one tool I have been wanting to use, but I need to have an EDU domain and the school where I am at does not use Google Apps. It is called Google Classrooms. https://classroom.google.com/ . The site mentions that "Classroom is a new tool in Google Apps for Education that helps teachers create and organize assignments quickly, provide feedback efficiently, and easily communicate with their classes". Reasons why I like using Google products is because they are always updated, with the exception of Google Sites. I wish Google Sites would get a makeover. Also Google products have many extensions and work well with other products. If I were to pick one product, It will be Google Drive. One can use the many features for personal and for instructional use.

    I don't think that the comment is exaggerated. Students come to our classrooms with a knack for digital literacy. I think they are called digital natives for a reason. I agree that there is some level of frustration as we all learn to learn and incorporate these new tools into our curriculum. However, there is always a level of uneasiness as we venture into something new. If we are going to think and work outside of the box, then we have to expect some failures as we climb to the top!

    Mayra, Gladys shared an article called "What Digital Literacy Look Like in a Classroom" on the 16th. There they mention three terms: -Digital Native -Digital Immigrant -Digital Literate In regards to your question. I do not think exaggeration is the case here. I do think students are becoming increasingly digital literate because technology is being utilize more and more each day. Students are exposed to new ways of teaching using technology.
