iRead will give you a chance to create meaningful, curriculum-centered audio projects with your students. Teachers are using digital audio tools (iPods, mics, Garageband, iTunes, Keynote, etc. and various accessories) to improve reading processes. Teachers meet on a monthly basis to exchange ideas and strategies. We started in 2006-07 by collecting data about fluency rates - this proved to be very promising.

The Central Texas Student Futures Project - formerly known as the Central Texas High School Data Center - is a research partnership of the Ray Marshall Center and a growing number of Central Texas independent school districts (ISDs). The project documents and analyzes the progress of Central Texas high school students as they move onto colleges and careers. It relies on a combination of student surveys and linked administrative records to improve feedback and policy and program alignment for Central Texas ISDs in preparing students for the demands of adulthood and success in the workplace.

"The Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University studied the likelihood that workers without a college degree will still be able to find employment in the future. The report studied data about job opportunities and skill requirements through 2018 for 16 career fields. It used $35,000 as a livable wage baseline and compared unskilled workers, those with no college education, to middle skills workers, those with at least some college education. Among the report's findings: Women will need to have a college degree just to make as much as men with high school diplomas and job growth for people without college degrees has fallen 72 percent since 1973."

"Recent research indicates that individuals who are nonverbal need to be presented a minimum of 200 opportunities a day to interact. In this project, we created 200 communication opportunities every day for students through training, modeling, and offering a data tracking system, resulting in more competent communicators."

Key Findings "Teacher leaders can immediately boost student learning in their schools. Some 70 percent of participants achieved notable gains in student achievement across classrooms they supervised during their training year. Teacher leaders can quickly develop and apply critical leadership skills. Participants made significant, measureable gains on high-impact skills, such as using student data and coaching to improve instruction. Teacher leaders can fill gaps in the leadership pipeline. After one year of Emerging Leaders, 80 percent of participants who were accepted to a principal apprenticeship started that training having mastered key leadership skills. The report includes recommendations for steps stakeholders can take to unleash the potential of teacher leadership to support student success."

iObservation is an instructional and leadership improvement system. It collects, manages and reports longitudinal data from classroom walkthroughs, teacher evaluations and teacher observations. Teacher growth and leadership practices inform professional development differentiated to individual learning needs for every teacher and leader to increase his/her classroom effectiveness each year.

The Connecticut State Department of Education has partnered with the Leadership and Learning Center to provide professional development in Common Formative Assessments. Common Formative Assessments (CFAs) are periodic or interim assessments that are administered to all students in a grade level or course several times during the quarter, semester, trimester or entire school year. Teachers analyze student assessment results in Data Teams to plan and differentiate instruction. Such results provide predictive value as to how students are likely to do on each succeeding assessment in time for teachers to make instructional modifications.
