Most students with autism hate to write. Even simple writing assignments require skills in language, organization, sensory, and visual motor areas. I Hate to Write is a new book from autism consultants Kathy Oehler and Cheryl Boucher that helps teachers look at the writing process through the eyes of a student with autism. By focusing on the four aspects of writing that are most problematic for students with ASD - language, organization, sensory, and visual motor skills - teachers will learn new ways to help students with ASD become happy, successful writers.

"When looking for apps for students on the autism spectrum (ASD), it is important to look at all educational apps and not just those that are tagged as autism apps. They have many of the same learning needs that other students have. This list was developed to provide apps based on common learning characteristics and traits that are typical for students with ASD. Carly is a young woman living with autism who co-authored the book Carly's Voice: Breaking Through Autism. To help promote her book, they have created this video experience of what it might feel like to live in Carly's world, giving users a first-person point of view into Carly's experience.

Michael mcsheehan presented at low incidence forum The IOD's research team is a multi-disciplinary group with backgrounds in education, autism, early childhood, employment, sustainable transportation, public policy, aging and long term care, positive behavioral supports, professional development, self determination, communication sciences and disorders, community development, literacy, developmental disabilities, and mental health. Research staffs possess training and expertise in a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including case study, interview, observation, focus group, quasi-experimental design, participatory action research, and survey design. We apply our collective expertise to a broad range of disability topics to inform members of the disability community, policy makers, advocates, other stakeholders, as well as members of the general public. Our research emphasizes sound theory, collaboration with stakeholders, and the applicability of research results.

I've got to introduce you to one of my heroes.  Her name is Carly Fleischmann.  She is a teenager from Toronto, Canada and she is living with autism and severe apraxia.  Carly is amazing.  She uses twitter, has a webpage, a facebook page and she has written a book along with her father.

This short film (16:39) focuses on Axel Cortes and the staff at Idelhurst Elementary School in Somersworth, NH. Axel is a fifth grader with autism who is non-verbal.

Student project "This website has been created for parents or children who do not know anything (or want to learn more) about tools and machines at a pediatrician's office. This lack of knowledge may lead children to fear the pediatrician's office. Hopefully, when they view this website, their fear will go away."
