The Answer Sheet - The best kind of teacher evaluation - 0 views

  •
"The best kind of teacher evaluation The Los Angeles Times on Sunday published a massive story that rocked the education world by using student test scores to evaluate more than 6,000 teachers and then to declare which teachers are effective and who should be shown the door. Any regular reader of my blog will know that I take a dim view of any teacher evaluation scheme that uses test scores as a sole measure. Here is a piece on real teacher evaluation by Larry Ferlazzo, who teaches English at Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento, California. Ferlazzo writes a popular blog for teachers and is the author of two books, Building Parent Engagement In Schools and English Language Learners: Teaching Strategies That Work. He is also a member of the Teacher Leaders Network, a network of teacher leaders dedicated to student success and the transformation of teaching into a true profession. It is a national initiative of the Center for Teaching Quality."

Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - 0 views

  •
An important step toward supporting teachers and ensuring that all students have access to high quality instruction is to develop fairer and more useful measures of teacher effectiveness. This is the goal of the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) project, which will support independent education researchers-in partnership with school districts, principals, teachers, and unions-to develop objective and reliable measures of effective teaching. Rather than relying solely on how well a teacher's students do on assessments, the Measures of Effective Teaching project seeks to uncover and develop a set of measures that work together to form a more complete indicator of a teacher's impact on student achievement.

Shanahan on Literacy: Why Standards-Based Teaching Has Failed to Raise Reading Achievement - 0 views

  •
"  Until we actually focus on teaching the standards-that is, until we decide that our job is to ensure that kids learn what we have agreed to teach them-then it will continue to look like our kids are failing. (And, no, "test prep" is not teaching to our standards, it is just one more example of educators focusing on particular activities rather than on reaching particular outcomes)."

MGSD Digital Conversion - 0 views

  •
Through the guiding principles and framework of this Strategic Plan, MGSD has embarked on an extraordinary and innovative journey.  The school system, parents, community and various other partners and constituents have joined forces to realize a shared vision - A Digital Conversion. The purpose of the Digital Conversion Initiative is to employ technology in ways that improve teaching and learning through increased student engagement while teaching the NC Standard Course of Study focusing on reading and mathematics. It is imperative to note that this project is a curriculum and instruction project, not a technology project. Through this paradigm shift in methodology, we are changing the way teachers teach and students learn, while utilizing an awesome set of technological tools

ITCFusion - home - 0 views

"A space to share my own creations, and other interesting bits that cover combining assistive technology, instructional technology and curriculum creation for students with special needs. My personal passion within teaching is finding a way to teach my students the functional academics they need to learn, while still meeting the requirements to teach to state standards. The fusion is possible, but it is a lot of work. I hope that this will grow to become a repository of sample materials that other teachers can use to support their classrooms."

Marzano Evaluation - Supporting effective teachers in every classroom - 2 views

  •
Bridging the gap between teacher evaluation and student achievement After nearly five decades of study around effective teaching and learning practices, Dr. Robert Marzano expands his acclaimed work by releasing the Art and Science of Teaching Causal Teacher Evaluation Model. The first of its kind, this teacher evaluation model identifies the direct cause and effect relationship between teaching practices and student achievement to help teachers and leaders make the most informed decisions that yield the greatest benefits for their students. With the Marzano Model, districts can transform your teacher evaluation system from an exercise in compliance into an effective engine of incremental growth, one that reflects parallel gains between teacher assessment and student performance.

Why Mish-Mash is Better Than 1:1 | The Spicy Learning Blog - 0 views

  •
"In my whole teaching career, I've only had a mish mash of tech. Currently, we don't have a class set of anything, but we do have small sets of different tools. Nevertheless, at any given time, it's possible to be 1:1 on the internet in our room. I prefer teaching with the limitations of no class sets, because it means we're constantly reflecting on the merits of each tool for the given purpose"
