The guide explains that social media for libraries is about building connections and learning communities using web based technologies. The International Librarians Network presents a post by Kim Tairi on personal branding. If we are going to contribute to social media it's important that we consider how we 'brand' ourselves.

Written in 2009 but this is the only one I can find. It does refer to the importance of social media as a communication tool for those away from home and is written in a way that is a little easier to understand. It does make reference to gaming avatars, the only one of the three militaries to do so. It's a clever document part policy, part strategy outlining the three types of presences and their different limits.

With an online presence now paramount, many libraries, archives and museums have created, or are looking to create, a social media policy; one that will dictate an accepted level of interaction and outline how practitioners within these cultural heritage institutions use social media. But is the use of social media policy in direct defiance of the purpose of social media? And more importantly, is it practical for cultural heritage institutions to have one?
