    DHT metabolite 3-beta androstanediol inhibits prostate cancer via its interaction with ER beta not AR.  This study finds increased E-cadherin transcription to reduce metastasis.  Estrogen was not active, according to this study.  This implies that estrogen in early disease may have a different signal than late.

    20alpha dihydroprogesterone, a 4 pregnene, has been shown to inhibit breast cancer cell proliferation, decrease mets through increased cell adhesion, and increased apoptosis.  Here, it has been shown to inhibit aromatase activity.  No longer are hormone metabolites to be viewed as waste.  They are biological as active if not more so in many cases.

    5alpha pregnanes and 4 pregnanes stimulate ER and PR negative breast cancer cells.  Progesterone metabolites stimulate or inhibit cancer potential independent of receptor status.  Though we know that progesterone metabolite balance can increase receptor binding.

    Intra mammary progesterone metabolism and its associated metabolites found to be associated with tumorigenic activity in cell lines.  This was independent from ER PR status.  5 alpha-pregnanes were found to be pro-tumor and 4-pregnanes were anti-tumor.

    5 alpha androstanediol promotes prostate cancer growth and survival independent of androgen receptors.   This study didn't clarify the mechanism.  We no know that this occurs via estrogen receptor alpha.  Thus a Testosterone metabolite signals through an estrogen receptor.

    vitamin D therapy in small study of children with morphea found significant improvement with skin and joint mobility.  The dosing was small and duration of therapy was only up to 7 months.  The benefits was found to extend to up to 2 years.

    Very small study finds benefit, described as good to excellent, of vitamin D therapy in 5 of 7 children with linear, cutaneous scleroderma. Only the abstract is available, but one wonders if they were using sub-therapeutic therapy as most do.
