Oxycodone Plus Ultra-Low-Dose Naltrexone Attenuates Neuropathic Pain and Asso... - 0 views

  • The antihyperalgesic and antiallodynic effects of oxycodone plus ultra-low-dose NTX (Oxytrex, Pain Therapeutics, Inc., San Mateo, CA) suggest a promising new treatment for neuropathic pain.
  •
low dose naltrexone plus opiate therapy improves neuropathic pain

Methadone induces testosterone suppression in patients with opioid addiction : Scientif... - 0 views

  •
Methadone use in men is associated with significant reduction in serum Total Testosterone levels in men.  In women, just the opposite is true, though this did not reach statistical significance.  The higher the dose of methadone in men, the lower the Testosterone.  The link between opiates and low T in men is very strong.  This is the first that I am aware of that points to the opposite effect in women.

Effects of Testosterone Replacement on Metabolic and Inflammatory Markers in Men with O... - 0 views

  •
Opiates and prescription meds are a common cause of low T in men.  In this study with men with metabolic dysfunction and opiate induced low T, Testosterone therapy did not worsen inflammatory/metabolic markers.  Of note, this study did not find improvement in the metabolic and inflammatory markers as other studies have shown.

Opioid-induced nausea and vomiting - Smith - Annals of Palliative Medicine - 0 views

  • Some of the “emetogenic” receptors that have been proposed are dopamine-2 (D2), histamine-1 (H1), DOR, 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) (5-HT3), acetylcholine (ACh), neurokinin-1 (NK-1), and cannabinoid receptor-1 (CB1)
  • Olanzapine decreased morphine-induced nausea and vomiting in a dose-dependent manner.
  •
Good review of meds for nausea.

The role of vitamin C in the treatment of pain: new insights - 0 views

  • recommended that during illness one should be careful about the intake of vitamin C, keeping in mind that acute illness rapidly depletes stores of ascorbic acid
  • it is possible that other hospital-associated pain may be partly due to vitamin C deficiency, which is relatively prevalent in hospital settings
  • Vitamin C deficiency (defined as plasma vitamin C concentrations <11 µmol/L
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • Vitamin C is cost effective and appears to be a safe and effective adjunctive therapy for specific pain relief
  • it decreases the requirement for opioid analgesics, particularly post surgically and for bone metastasis
  • recent research has indicated a positive impact of high dose vitamin C on cancer- and chemotherapy-related quality of life, including pain
  • Cameron and Campbell [81] reported a number of cases of dramatic to complete amelioration of bone pain in patients with severe cancer-related pain given both high dose oral and intravenous vitamin C
  • hypovitaminosis C (defined as plasma vitamin C concentrations <23 µmol/L
  •
vitamin C reduces pain; mechanism of action likely anti-inflammatory antioxidant, but yet inconclusive.

Abrogation of the Negative Influence of Opioids on IL-2 Immunotherapy of Renal Cell Can... - 0 views

  •
only abstract available here to general public.  Opiates suprress the immune system.  This is an important point in the fight against cancer. Cancer is, in part, the result of signficant immune imbalance.  In this study of patients with Renal Cell Cancer, melatonin + IL-2 was found to counter this immunosuppressive effect of morphine to increase partial response and to increase the 3 year survival.
