antipsychotics are associated with significant weight gain.  One proposed mechanism is the increased activation of orexin neurons in the areas of the brain (lateral hypothalamus and perifornical area) that regulate eating.  Amphetamines stimulate the same, just a drastically reduced levels

antipsychotic drugs shown to increase weight gain through increase in orexin activity.

SSRI as well as other antidepressants cause hyperprolactinemia.  Antipsychotics are well known to increase prolactin production.

Our current health care paradigm is failing us!  20% of women are on anti-depressants and 1 in 4 American women are on some psychiatric medicine.  And we wonder why we are unhealthy?

Study finds that higher BMI and insulin levels associated with decline Testosterone levels.  But, so were risperidone and olanzapine in schizophrenic patients.  The association between the medications and the BMI and insulin was less in the meds, but still present.  The risperidone had a greater association with a lower Testosterone.  Increasing estradiol levels correlated with the low Testosterone levels.
