Twitter launches tool to gauge interest in political tweets - 1 views

  •
I figured this would interest most people in our class. "As Election Day nears, Twitter's new "Political Engagement Map" lets users see where people are most interested about specific issues -- at least as measured by tweeting patterns."

The Quagmire of Social Media Friendships - 0 views

  •
This article is pretty relevant to the readings we have for this week. I found it interesting that despite having many friends on Facebook, the author defines all of his "real" friends by things that they do in face-to-face situations, which doesn't really consider long distance relationships.

A new feature on Facebook that is interesting, will it change the way you use Facebook or is this just another incremental change that will have no long term impact?

YouTubers feel betrayed as Hollywood pros invade - 1 views

  •
Really interested article about YouTube shifting from user-generated amateur content to professional content. Wonder if becoming a YouTube superstar will still exist if YouTube becomes just another TV channel?

Facebook & Work: Will Friending Your Manager Help Your Career? Read more: http://busin... - 0 views

Interesting article about the increasing blend of work life and personal life. I'm not sure if I'd advocate adding a friend on Facebook - while I can control my own posts I'm not sure I can trust that I'd be able to manage my Facebook in a way that would absolutely ensure a manager wouldn't see an undesirable post from someone else before I had time to delete it.

Tory MP says government should do something about anonymous online comments - 0 views

  •
Incredibly relevant given our discussion in class today. I know what I said this morning about not believing anonymous comments to be integral to free speech, but I have to say I'm not at all keen on the proposal of this type of law.

Lady Gaga's Littlemonsters.com: Why It Works and What It Means for Social Media Read mo... - 0 views

This is really interesting article following the ways in which Lady Gaga has capitalized on using social media to promote her brand - especially now that she has her own social networking site for her fans that launched earlier this summer. I don't consider myself an avid fan of hers, but I'm really impressed with the way she uses social media to interact and connect with her fans; which is basically the only reason why I follow her on Twitter.

Visual History of Scrollbars - 0 views

  •
Here is a graphic that captures a visual history of scrollbars from 1981 to the present. I point out the trend towards making the scrollbar less and less noticeable, with fewer graphical details to signal to users its function given its progressive ubiquity. The scrollbar is the visual equivalent of "More informaiton, please!"

Janice mentioned how much she disliked comic sans. This is a great illustration of how much a font can change the entire feeling of a brand and logo.

We can hear you having sex - 1 views

It always amazes me how people are finding new ways to communicate with out another. Changing the name of your wi-fi network to passive-agressively tell off your neighbour - hilarious. Just shows how much communication takes place on a virtual platform.
