The iPad is revolutionizing the field of speech-language pathology and giving those who have been without a voice the ability to communicate their needs and desires. It is also an invaluable tool for teaching the special needs population. The 4-hour workshop will provide an overview of how the iPad can be used to enhance the communication skills of children with communication deficits and delays. After an initial introduction, participants will have the option to participate in a session involving hands-on training activities with the iPad or to learn more about specific iPad applications that address areas of communication needs (augmentative communication, language, social skills, articulation, auditory processing, engagement and reinforcement). Treatment videos will be used to enhance learning. The audience will leave feeling empowered to use the iPad in all settings -- at home, school, therapy, and in the community. When:

Learn how accessories can multiply the effectiveness of the classroom iPad. Is there a case that will protect an iPad if a student drops it from a height or gets it wet? For students who can't access the iPad directly, what switch is the most effective?  If you only have one iPad in your classroom, what accessories promote collaboration?  What are the options for projecting your iPad onto a screen or interactive whiteboard? The webinar series is presented by Dr. Betsy Flener who has over 25 years of experience as a teacher and consultant including serving as a regional consultant for the Kentucky School for the Blind. Learn about top iPad picks for helping adults who have communication challenges such as aphasia and verbal apraxia. An emphasis will be places on drill and practice apps to improve verbal expression and auditory expression skills as well as iPad features, apps and strategies to help compensate for speaking and understanding deficits. After a formal presentation showing how to use the iPad and selected apps and features, there will be 20 minutes for collaboration, discussion and Q&A. A detailed handout will be emailed to participants with information about all the resources which are included in the presentation as well as additional resources which may prove helpful. Join us for March's Technology Tuesday as we explore the world of iPad apps for educators. Presenter Trina Halama will share apps for the iPad that are educational tools that can be used in the classroom. There are a variety of useful apps to make the classroom livelier and more engaging for both the students and teacher. Among the apps being shared are apps for time management, social networking, discussion forums and boards, books, art and graphics, and much more. Some of the particular apps to be shared are: Kindle, How Stuff Works, Flashcardlet, free books, Red Stamp, Toontastic, Math Quizzer, Quick Graph, and more. This will be an opportunity to receive and share resources.
