    Strengths-Based Coaching®: 12 hour training for coaches and leaders in the fields of early childhood, school-age, and youth. Strengths-Based Coaching®: A Journey into Coaching is a practical approach for working with adults that will fundamentally change the way coaches and leaders support and sustain quality improvements in their programs, agencies, and school districts. This training enhances the coaching role of leaders,  building on their strengths, knowledge, and skills. Strengths-Based Coaching® is based on five foundations: adult learning theory, core beliefs, how to approach others, relationship building, and communication. These five foundations lead to positive feedback that creates partnerships and builds on the strengths of staff. Getty's Window To Inclusion: robot in the preschool classroom - 0 views

  • This video illustrates how essential early childhood inclusion is for all children, including those who cannot be in close proximity to other children because of health concerns. In this video, Kate Mathany describes how her daughter Getty virtually attends a typical preschool classroom every day using a VGo. In the first part, Kate introduces us to Getty and describes how the idea to use the VGo came about. In the second part, Kate is joined by Eileen Sedilko, Getty's preschool teacher, as they illustrate how Getty's school day works from both home and classroom perspectives. They discuss a range of topics including preschool inclusion, parent leadership, the use of adaptations, collaboration, teamwork, the benefits of inclusion for all children, families, and teachers. This video has important messages for families with children who cannot attend a preschool because of health reasons who are looking for solutions, for all those interested in early childhood inclusion, and for current and future early childhood educators. This course will explore the basics for introducing assistive technology devices to the family while in the hospital setting/outpatient setting. Learner Outcomes: Participants will identify criteria to determine when to introduce assistive technology to the child Participants will become familiar with the basic features of assistive technology assessment Participants will receive an overview assistive technology devices appropriate for a new diagnosis involving motor, sensory and cognitive issues. Montana State Library Receives Grants for Statewide Early Literacy Program - 0 views

(HELENA) --- The Montana State Library (MSL) is pleased to announce that it has received $45,000 in grant funds from two separate Montana foundations. The First Interstate BancSystem Foundation, based in Billings, awarded the State Library $35,000, and the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, based in Missoula, awarded the State Library $10,000. The money will be used to expand the Montana State Library’s statewide early literacy initiative, Ready 2 Read. Launched in 2009, the Ready 2 Read program is an effort to help parents and caregivers understand the value of sharing language and literacy with their children. The program has provided collections of high-quality children’s books to libraries, early childhood training to librarians, and extensive information and training to parents and caregivers on the importance of sharing books with children from birth forward. “New research suggests that there is no greater investment than in early childhood education,” said Darlene Staffeldt, Montana State Librarian. “Montana libraries have evolved to meet the challenge of providing programs, services, and materials for our youngest library patrons – children from birth to three years old. We look forward to working with the First Interstate BancSystem and Washington Foundations to expand our offerings even further.” Funding from First Interstate BancSystem Foundation will be used to support training of librarians to further their expertise in early literacy and early childhood education.

I bet you didn't say dental caries, or as any kid who has heard the ominous whirring sound of a dentist's drill would call them, "cavities." Fifty-nine percent of kids between 12 and 19 have at least one cavity, and poor and minority children are disproportionately affected, according to this study by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

    Difficulties associated with failure to master significant developmental stages and domains are often associated with insecure attachment and are compounded through childhood and adolescence. Attachment disruptions compromise normal childhood development and give rise to complex emotional and behavioral difficulties in many special needs youth. These special needs youth are often misunderstood, leading to poor assessments, misguided interventions and multiple academic and out-of-home placements that fail. Participants will understand the interface of attachment and developmental processes. They will also learn the origin and assessment of emotional and behavior difficulties and central issues that must be addressed to foster change and growth. When/Where:

    In this workshop Ronda will explore how to create and maintain a workable website using Google Tools. Websites can be created for a personal digital portfolio, a classroom, or a business. Participants will learn how to use many Google tools such as calendar, documents, presentation, and forms and how to incorporate them into a workable website. Ronda will cover each Google tool and give participants an opportunity to develop content that will be utilized to develop a website at the end of the workshop. Ronda McManus began working at the Career Center in 1990 as an early childhood educator. She also held a position helping high school seniors transition from high school to either a university, junior college, training, military service, or a job. Currently, Ronda integrates technology in classrooms in her position at the Billings Career Center. She collaborates and supports teachers and students using technology in their classrooms, helping to create a foundation for learning and innovation in our ever-accelerating world. Ronda continues to be inspired by our youth and the promises they hold true. When/Where:

    This session will describe the prefrontal cortex's role in attention, behavior and emotion and how abnormal development in this area of the brain contributes to ADHD, ODD and bipolar disorder. Dr. Arnsten will also underscore the role of stress in causing prefrontal cortical dysfunction and emerging treatments.

    Goals and Objectives:
    1) The role of the prefrontal cortex in the top-down regulation of attention, behavior and emotion.
    2) How abnormal development and dysfunction of the prefrontal cortex contributes to childhood disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder and bipolar disorder.
    3) How prefrontal cortical circuits are modulated by the arousal systems, and how stress  exposure or lead poisoning can cause prefrontal cortical dysfunction that mimics ADHD.
    4) New data on how medications used to treat ADHD can strengthen prefrontal cortical regulation through catecholamine actions on prefrontal network connections. The purpose of this webinar series is to introduce clinicians to exciting developments in neuroscience that provides complex and new understanding of developmental and behavioral disorders in children. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the structure and functioning of areas of the brain, novel ways to study the brain and emerging treatments. When:

    This broadcast will incorporate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Learn the Signs. Act Early. (LTSAE) messages as well as NYS specific resources to increase awareness about LTSAE and importance of understanding developmental milestones and making appropriate and timely referrals when there is a concern. The broadcast will also highlight resources in New York State. Parents and professionals tend to frame healthy development of children in terms of height, weight, and language acquisition. Despite the fact that the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended universal screening for development and for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) since 2006, the majority of children are not being screened by standardized screening tools. In addition to screening, when a concern is raised, parents and professionals are not aware of the importance of early intervention or the availability of resources. The broadcast will highlight information about ASD and general developmental screening, including many free resources available for parents to better understand their child's development through the age of five years old, as well as materials to help parents talk with their child's health care provider about any concerns. For professionals, the broadcast will highlight the importance of routine developmental screening and resources for them and parents with whom they work. Learning Objectives
    After viewing this program viewers will be able to: List important developmental milestones in early childhood (before the age of three). Explain the importance of using standardized developmental screening tests at routine well-child visits at 9, 18, and 24 months of age.</l
