By T.R. Reid -- Five Myths About Health Care in the Rest of the World - washingtonpost.com - 0 views

  • As Americans search for the cure to what ails our health-care system, we've overlooked an invaluable source of ideas and solutions: the rest of the world. All the other industrialized democracies have faced problems like ours, yet they've found ways to cover everybody -- and still spend far less than we do. I've traveled the world from Oslo to Osaka to see how other developed democracies provide health care. Instead of dismissing these models as "socialist," we could adapt their solutions to fix our problems. To do that, we first have to dispel a few myths about health care abroad:

Toys for children with special needs - 0 views

  • Inexpensive and Easily Available Toys That Work for Children with Special NeedsWhen a birthday or holiday rolls around, I can usually get a nice assortment of age-appropriate toys for my typically-developing children for less than $100.  But just one adapted toy for my child with cerebral palsy can be anywhere from $50 to $200.   In an attempt to find some alternatives, I asked a group of moms what off-the-shelf toys worked well for their children, who have a wide range of disabilities, including physical, behavioral, developmental, and sensory disabilities.  I've included a variety of their favorites in this article.

A frequent equipment adaptation provided to assist agricultural workers with lower-limb disabilities is the modification of foot operated controls to be controllable by hand. Given the wide range of user needs and equipment types, there are many different designs for such modifications. While a valuable tool, hand controls also have potential health risks, not only for the primary user, potentially increasing the extent of their impairment, but also for causing injuries to secondary users of modified equipment.

In this webinar, you will learn about digital accessible books and how to get digital textbooks from the NIMAC (National Instructional Materials Accessibility Center).
