Who Should Attend: Native American family members, Tribal leaders, Heath professionals, Mental health workers, Tribal and public school administers, Teachers, BIE and IHS staff, Elders and Others who are interested in ensuring the special education needs for Native American students who are ages 0-26. According to the Montana Department of Public Heath & Human Services, about 35 babies are born in the Treasure State every day.Shortly after birth, a blood sample is taken for all newborns and shipped to the state lab in Helena. There, the Serology & Newborn Screening Lab tests for 28 conditions.

President Barack Obama’s heath care reform proposal released Monday includes many of the provisions disability advocates have been pushing for. The $950 billion proposal comes ahead of a bipartisan health care summit planned for Thursday and retains many elements advocates consider favorable for people with disabilities. Notably, the plan would prevent coverage denials based on a preexisting condition and allocate additional federal funds to expand Medicaid.
