    What:
    This broadcast will incorporate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Learn the Signs. Act Early. (LTSAE) messages as well as NYS specific resources to increase awareness about LTSAE and importance of understanding developmental milestones and making appropriate and timely referrals when there is a concern. The broadcast will also highlight resources in New York State. Parents and professionals tend to frame healthy development of children in terms of height, weight, and language acquisition. Despite the fact that the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended universal screening for development and for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) since 2006, the majority of children are not being screened by standardized screening tools. In addition to screening, when a concern is raised, parents and professionals are not aware of the importance of early intervention or the availability of resources. The broadcast will highlight information about ASD and general developmental screening, including many free resources available for parents to better understand their child's development through the age of five years old, as well as materials to help parents talk with their child's health care provider about any concerns. For professionals, the broadcast will highlight the importance of routine developmental screening and resources for them and parents with whom they work. Learning Objectives
    After viewing this program viewers will be able to: List important developmental milestones in early childhood (before the age of three). Explain the importance of using standardized developmental screening tests at routine well-child visits at 9, 18, and 24 months of age.</l

    Through MRESA3, the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics is pleased to offer a two-day workshop designed to help teacher implement the new Standards for mathematical Practice. The Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students. These workshops will focus on the eight mathematical practice standards for all grade levels. Students are expected to: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, Reason abstractly and quantitatively, Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, Model with mathematics, Use appropriate tools strategically, Attend to precision, Look for and make use of structure, Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Teachers that attend the workshop will leave the workshop with an understanding of all eight prac-tices and what these practices look like in the mathematics classroom. College credit is pending.

  • We are pleased to announce a summer class presented online by Gail McGregor of the University of Montana on Standards-Based IEPS.&nbsp; It is an excellent and reasonably priced opportunity for graduate credits and meaningful professional development for special education teachers, content teachers, special education directors and coops, and other educators who work with students with special needs. This course is designed to introduce general and special education teachers to the concept of standard-based IEPs and is organized around a series of five webcasts that have been created for the Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI).&nbsp; Supplementary readings and course assignments are designed to complement the information in the webinars.&nbsp; The course syllabus and webinars are on the OPI website at: http://www.opi.mt.gov/Curriculum/MontCAS/MontCAS_Presents.html#gpm1_3 &nbsp;This course will be offered through the Office of Public Instruction and the University of Montana.&nbsp; The Office of Public Instruction will provide the environment for the online learning communities that are part of the course.&nbsp; The environment for the learning communities will be Adobe Connect webinars.&nbsp; Students will need to have Flash Player and the Adobe Connect Add-in installed on their computers and have a microphone and speakers in order to participate in the learning communities.&nbsp; OPI will assist participants in connecting and has microphones for check-out if needed. &nbsp;Participants may take the course for renewal units through OPI or graduate credits through the University of Montana, and the grading option is a traditional letter grade.&nbsp; Registration and payment for graduate credit is also through the University of Montana. The Mapping Media to the Common Core course (part 1) introduces teachers to six different multimedia products which students can create to meet the CCSS requirements; These strategies can also be used to differentiate instruction to meet the  needs of students with disabilities or those with high abilities! Each participant will use an iPad to access the interactive course eBook, as well as, create and share a variety of media products during the course.   Participants will need access to an iPad for this course.

This interactive, hands-on workshop will share resources and demonstrate through model lessons, how to efficiently use resources and technology to support CCSS. Attendees will participate in lessons demonstrating the teaching of digital citizenship, English Language Arts, and Math, all aligned to CCSS and integrating technology throughout. Department of Education Proposes to Eliminate "2 Percent Rule" in Assessing Students wi... - 0 views

  • The U.S. Department of Education has proposed regulations, published today, to transition away from the so-called "2 percent rule," thus emphasizing the Department’s commitment to holding all students to high standards that better prepare them for college and career. Under the existing regulations, States have been allowed to develop alternate assessments aligned to modified academic achievement standards (AA-MAAS) for some students with disabilities and use the results of those assessments for accountability purposes under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. In making accountability determinations, States currently may count as proficient scores for up to 2 percent of students in the grades assessed using the alternate assessments based on modified academic achievement standards.
