this article has a suprising chart that shows the difference in poverty rates between a married couple with kids and a single mother with the same amount of kids
Do you think that even if a single mother had a good education she would still be in poverty? I think so IFF the child or children could take care of themselves long enough for the mother to find a decent job to support the family.
that very interesting. i never would have thought that married families are at less risk of poverty affecting them, but now that i think about it i guess they could both work and would get more money then one person.
This article is about staistics and how America is ineffective at reducing poverty. The United States has suffered with having almost the highest poverty rate. One in every three adults will experience extreme poverty at least one year of their adult life. 6.8 of these extremely poor people are men, with the women making up the difference of 9.1 million.
I think that it's strange that it's harder for younger people to get married since usually it's the opposite. I wonder if you are well off does it affect your chances for staying with your partner?
it might declan but the stress for young poor kid in love to make ends meets are usually a reason to break up. its easier to substain yourself with some nutricious than provide both of you with raman noodles. so in theory this could cause malnutrision too!
This article explains some of the causes of hunger and poverty, some facts, and what this organization has done to help. Some of the facts were really surprising, and I was surprised by how many people are struggling with hunger.
A Wikipedia article about the number of Americans under the federal poverty line, More then 1/2 of the people will spend atleast one year under the poverty line between ages 25 and 75
This article is about how the homeless are sheltered. It is the website of an organization that oporates an emergency shelter. I was happy to see how much came with the shelter and that people weren't just thrown into an empty space.
I agree with Miranda, i was happy to see that the people got housing and were not all thrown into one room with a bunch of other people, and some blankets. That would make me feel really appreciated.
This article tells about how poverty in india hits evben harder thatn in america, here poverty could be at a job for 7 dollars an hour, but in india 25% of their population makes less than a dollar a day. 25% is a lot, becuase mostly the naion is over populated with people that take up most of the jobs. So in india they have somthing known as the "slums" kind of like a ghetto that we have here in the states, but people there live in poor poor living condtions, without running water, no flushing toilet, and no bath the poverty here would look like luxrury there.
This article talks about the causes of hunger and how hunger is in America. It also gives you some quick facts and statistics. It also talks about the rises in hunger and poverty in the last couple years.
This article describes how addiction can cause poverty and how poverty can make addiction worse. The article trys to make it clear that you shouldn't stereo type that all poor people are addicts. I thought that was a good point to make because this is a pretty common sterotype for people to believe.
This article gives some frightening facts about homlessness. It also, though gives some hope. It's a blog that focuses on Poverty, Homelessness and hunger.
Although it's sad, it's good to now that there are people out there who are willing to spread the word about poverty. The people who are finding solutions to poverty are angels.
this artical describes certain institudes helping people that need the help. They are setting diferent types of programs that help people that are too poor to pay it for themselves.
this was about death rate with people in poverty. it really surprised me that poverty would make you less willing to kill yourself. I would think that it would because you dont have anything.
I agree with Marley. I also found it shocking that death rates are higher in cities were the gap between poor and rich is wide. You would think it would be higher if the gap between poor and rich wasnt wide. The article states that its like that because "a generally undesirable social climate that's inherently more stressful."
A website explaining a little bit about who's in poverty and gives a few graphs to show the poverty rates. I think helps in seeing the problem and applying that to what you know with words.
Many mayors have 10-year plans to end homelessness and had reported progress until this year. The most recent official count, in January 2007, found 671,888 people living on U.S. streets or in shelters, down 12% from January 2005.
This shows a graph of the percentage of poverty in each state. It opens my eyes a lot, because I realize that even though ohio is bad, it could be worse.
Poverty Threshold is different that poverty guidelines. Threshold is normaly used for statistics, such as estimating the number of Americans in poverty. Poverty guidelines are used for administrative purposes, such as seeing if someone meets the requirments of certain programs. The poverty guildelines may also be known as 'federal poverty level.' (There are charts showing the poverty guidelines for different family sizes that live in the 48 connected staes, Alaska, and Hawii) The poverty guideline changes depending on where you live. \nI was surprized to see that in 2009 Alaska had the highest poverty guideline at $13,530 and the 48 connected states had the lowest with $10,830. I also cant imagine my family of six living off $29,530. It also makes me think about all the other nessesities that we take for granted and how people living in poverty would be really greatful for them.
This site has statistics of homelessness all over the world! India has the highest homeless rate out of all 100,000,000 people without homes in all of the world, with 78,000,000 people out on the street. This are some shocking numbers, and really deserve to have a look. I find it amazing that there's enough homeless people in Hong Kong alone for them to make the list with other countries.
