Poverty Related Diseases - 0 views

  •
The article is about poverty-related diseases (PRDs) and how it is a mafor cause and cosequence of considerable povert in Developing Countries (DCs). The burdens of PRDs, especially HIV/AIDS, which today more than 40 million people are infected with AIDS, and many of them are in sub-Saharian Africa. Malaria, and Tuberculosis (TB), also TB remains the leading cause od morbidity and mortality world-wide, accounting for more than 2 million human lives every year. The annual global death toll of these three diseases approaches 6 million people and, in some African countries HIV infected 40% of the entire population. But the European Commision has propposed to support a long-term partnership between Europe and developing countries by providing $200 million for development of new medicines and vaccines to fight these three diseases. Thus the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnershipm(EDCTP) brings together EU Member States plus Norway, developing countries and industry in a joint effort to combat PRDs. Fighting thses diseases will also be one of the most effective ways to alleviate poverty and promote economic progress in DCs. My opinion of this article is that it's brilliant, knowing that U.S. is not alone and that countries are coming together to stop thess diseases and poverty problems alike. I hope this article would be an insperation to teh U.S. and other countries, that are facing poverty and the horrific effects of the grotisque "plague!"

I thought this website was interesting because it put a label on "developed" or "developing" countries when really all countries how some sort of poverty or suffering in their economy.
  •
This has a lot of facts about poverty around the world. Very sight exploding
  •
This article is very insightful, becauswe not only is it telling you about poverty in the U.S., but in other countries! Showing you the wages, perctentages, and what makes a country "developed," or "developing.

15 shocking facts about poverty - 19 views

  •
This article really opens your eyes to the reason why we have poverty. It gives who is to blame and why many people don't know about poverty or very little about it.
  • ...13 more comments...

this is a good website too because it opened my eyes in many ways!
  •
Wow. It was really interesting for me to here that poverty actually has to do with politics. I never knew that politics had anything to do with poverty.
  •
I was supried when i found out that both parties are to blam for the econimy.
  •
It really made the problem stand out the way it was wrote. The article really enlarged the problem and hopefully that will help people to see it.
  •
It made sense to me because i neveer felt like america was ever really in debt. I would hear it in the news then go to the polairs mall and couldnt find a parking lot so it just didn't hit me. When i herd about middle class slipping into proverty it started to scare me because my dad's work place is letting people go and my mom has alredy had to deal with that at her work place. What if they are choosen to be let go of, will i still be able to live in worthington? so its kinda scary.
  •
I thought it was crazy that the U.S. has the third worst poverty rate out of all the developed nations. I knew it was a problem, but I didn't know how bad. i mean you think of the u.S as being one of the richer countries, but we are struggling a lot too.
  •
I liked how it repeated that the US is becoming poorer and poorer month after month because it means it is a serious problem. ANd I never thought that the politics had anything to do with poverty, I always thought it was just that people weren't able to afford things and stuff like that...
  •
This article is very upfront and sort of forces you to listen to it. It really hit me when they said that many people think that America is and always will be "the wealthiest country." But even though we are better off than some countries, many people in America are struggling to put food on the table; those kinds of things, like eating dinner every night, I just take for granted.
  •
I saw the fact about how one out of every six families are on a plan for anti-poverty. It was really surprising and I was wondering if the other five out of six people are left alone or are they getting help locally?
  •
I found it sad that the U.S. where we think we are so much better than everyone else we have the third worst poverty rate among devoloped countries
  •
Oh wow that's kind of scary, it gets me worried. The person who wrote the article seemed more rude than anything though.
  •
i did not know anything of those fact! that is amazing that poverty is everywhere! and we did not know about it!
  •
I thought that it was kind of funny, that the republicans said that poverty was the democrats fault and the democrats said it was the republicans fault. Those were interesting facts though
  •
I read it and it looked very sad and it made me feel sorry for the people, but also the facts are very shocking. The "1 in 6 families have the government's anti-poverty program" made me think that about 13 people in here have the program.
  •
i was really sad when i saw the fact that 45 million Americans were living in poverty in 2009

poverty in ohio - 11 views

  •
proverty has grown 41.7 percent in ohio last year. Most of the people who have proverty has a family of four. Thats just sad because i have a family of 4 and we are having hard times with money. My family is working out the prombles fast because we don't want to go homeless.

Poverty isn't just in other countries, it is in our country and our own state.
  •
poverty is everywhere, not just in our country but all over the world
  •
I can not believe 1.5 million people in ohio make less then $22,050 a year. Its so sad, to think that maybe they couldn't get food for their family or have a cozy house to go to at night.
  •
there was a great family in ohio, then one day everything changed and turned in a different direction. one night the father looses his job, and then that once great family became under the level of poverty. they need help!
  •
This article form the Columbus Dispatch is talking about how Ohio's population has increased since 2002 by 1.2 percent while the people living in poverty has grown 41.7%. I was really surprised at how many people live in poverty in our state. I think That This increase had to do with so many job losses in ohio
  •
yes but its in our state too. some of us don't realize. probably some of us thought it was in like africa at first.
  •
I know there is poverty everywhere, but never thought there was so much in Ohio.
  •
Jeez, I'm almost 16 years-old, and knowing that I might not get a good paying sulks, and knowing that Ohio is going into poverty makes it even more worse! I wonder what it will be like in 2015, or 2020?
  •
This is an article about rising poverty in Ohio. This was really shocking that poverty is really becoming a problem in Ohio.
  •
This article in the Columbus Dispatch gives statistics and info about the poverty rate in Ohio. Acording to the article, 1.5 million people live in Ohio, and 13.7% of them live in poverty. This shocks me because I've never really seen or heard of people living in Ohio being in poverty.
  •
Yea like my mom works for Marion City school and works with special needs kids with adhd learning disabilites and most of the famileis in Marion Live in Poverty. It just makes me sad.
  •
This is a really, really interesting article. I had no clue that there was so much poverty in Ohio. You just sort of always think it's somewhere else, not in your own city.
  •
Gives an overview of poverty statistics in Ohio. It's surprising that the number of people living in poverty has grown by 40% as well as a little disturbing.
  •
Extremely eye opening. i thought the same thing as a lot of people that Columbus was pretty well off and wealthy... apperantly not.
  •
This article was posted on January 22, 2010, just one year ago. In this article you will find suprising statstics, showing the hgh rate of poverty in our own home state. The unemployment rate has soared in the past few years, and more Ohioans are finding it hard to cope. This article almost made me sick to my stomach, seeing that so many people are living in poverty, and that I was totoally oblivious to it. I felt guilty in a sense, since I have not even NOTICED that there was such a problem with poverty. It was very informational, as well as somewhat recent.
  •
This article literally comes close to home. Everybody thinks that Columbus and the suburbs of it are really rich, but the statistics proved me wrong.. And the fact that we've gone nine months now with "double digit unemployment" is too bad. Everybody deserves to be supported. If our society makes money so important for life, why can't they provide jobs? Ridiculous...
  •
I like this article because it shows that poverty isnt just in africa, but its in the us to.
  •
I thought that this article contained many good statistics. The one about how the population living in Ohio has grown by 41 percent since 2002 was very fascinating and sad to hear. That is a huge change.
  •
this gives information about the poverty levels in ohio and gives the total household income of every year (22,000). they wern't joking at the food pantry. this is something that people really need to think about.
  •
It was surprising that the population only increased 1% but the poverty level increased 41%. It made me realize how many people are in poverty right here in Ohio.
  •
i am very surprised that about 33% of Ohio people are poor :(

Poverty in Ohio spreading and getting worse - 19 views

  •
Ohio has the top 3 poorest cities. i thought that ohio had tones of money before this came up. Its sad that Ohio can't help the people in those city. Why can't we lower the taxes or something like that to help the people that need it.

omg i did kno we were poor kinda ironic because we grow so much food!
  •
I was supried when i found out that the top 10 poorest cities, three are in Ohio are Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo. I meen those are mentioned all the time for art shows and cool events and to think that they are poor?!! wow!
  •
this article is about how 1in 5 Marion County residence went into poverty last year. and how bad the economy has effected Ohio
  •
i agree with adele about the cool events. I drive though cinncinati a couple times a year and i see the big stadium plus i have family down there who are dintist so i never would have thought it would be one of the more poor cities in ohio. I also can't believe clevland because its up by lake errie and i travle there too and i would think they would have more job opertunities from working the ferries or working at cedier point. But i guess thats why its so shocking to me.
  •
it terrible that all of this is happening in the U.S but also in our own state, and in the cities around us. it was sad that even though people had a job, they were living paycheck to paycheck. Sometimes jobs help you, but sometimes they don't. nice artical ryan.
  •
I never really thought that ohio had alot of poverty! I was suprised that Cleveland, Cincinnati. and toledo are listed in the top 10 of poor cities. I am hoping that we can whip this country back into shape before eerything goes down!
  •
this amazed me that no other state has more than one city that is in poverty. Coming from the state ohio, living in columbus, i had no idea toledo, cleveland, and cincinnati was in poverty.
  •
This article is about how poverty in Ohio is growing really fast. I was pretty dang surprised at the numbers when the article told how fast poverty is growing. I think it's a really good 'cause there's a lot of good information!
  •
This article really surprised me. I couldn't believe that Ohio has the most cities in poverty! I never really thought that our state was really poor, until I read this article.
  •
I always thought Ohio didnt have a lot of poverty, but that is just becasue I'm protected from it, so i never see it. this is a huge eye opener because even working families in Ohio arent doing well financially.
  •
It was shocking that Ohio has three of the poorest cities in all of America. That's like 1/3 of the top ten are where we live... Disturbing.
  •
woah dude! I thought that we were kinda rich.... But I guess not o_O... nice article, I learned a lot!
  •
I never knew Ohio was this bad. I thought Ohio was coming back but apparently not according to the stats.
  •
I was very sad to read that Ohio is three of the poorest cities in all of America. It makes me feel to do something since I live around poverty. Very eye opening!
  •
to be honest, it doesn't suprise me that Ohio has the top 3 poorest cities. Everyday I see people struggle.
  •
I can believe that Ohio has the poorest cities, but yet it still suiprises me. Deep in your head you know that people are poor, but you don't want to believe it.
  •
yeahh what rachel said. i mean even though i don't really see many people on the streets like you would in D.C. or chicago. but still it is very truee. :c
  •
I never thought that poverty in Ohio was this bad. I guess I just hadn't opened up my eyes to the people who are struggling. To see that our home is riddled with hardship is not only sad, but it is a monumental weight on your mind.
  •
This doesn't suprise me. I see people on the street and in food banks.
  •
the highest number of poverty in 51 years? Wow the world really sucks today.
  •
This is Crazy, In Marion The Salvation Army's food pantry served 1,020 This August. The number of people doubled from a year ago. This shows that more and more people need support, its sad
  •
i agree with caroline. it seems like the world is getting more expensive how will we survive when we're older. the population is getting out of hands too.
  •
It's scary to think that Ohio is has more poor people in this year than last year. Hopefully, we can get reduce poverty levels in Ohio again.
  •
i can't believe the sitaution is so bad, and how WILL we survive? (that was supposed to be in italics) it doesn't make sense-if the world becomes poorer and poorer, then the rich become fewer and fewer, and eventually it's going to snowball and just get out of control
  •
I was surprised to see the one of the facts said that poverty is a much more complex problem today than it was when the war on poverty began in the 1960s. I would have thought that that it would have gotten better because there were more jobs avaliable and more money. It would make sense to be bad in the 1960s because there werent a lot of jobs available. What if it keeps getting worse? What will happen in about 50 years from now? Will everybody be living in poverty? It would be helpful to find these answers out now.
  •
I think this quote hits the nail on the head. "We're seeing a different wave of people using our health centers as the recession hits people in the middle class who have recently lost their jobs," - Julie DiRossi if the economy keeps tanking the way it has been the U.S is in trouble, the majority of this country is people in the middle class and if people keep losing jobs and not being able to build the econonmy up and its just a circling problem

The Effects of poverty on teaching and learning - 2 views

  •
This article is about how kids that are in poverty and are going to school are more likely to fail because of their social circumtances
  • ...2 more comments...
  •
that is so sad that the children that live in poverty are more likely to fail in school. its not their fault
  •
It isn't the children's fault they are going to fail. The poverty has effects that takes the child out of school for a few days and stuff.
  •
With the amount of poverty rising (which means more kids that make up this country), I wonder how this will effect the country in the future.
  •
Very sad. It says that it is most likely for a child to fail in education that is in poverty because of his/her's life circumstances.

..:: Causes of Poverty ::.. - 10 views

  •
This article is about the causes of poverty. Poverty is caused by overpopulation, unequal distribution of resources, costs of living, inadequate education, and unemployment. I was upset by the some of the causes of poverty, but hopeful too, because some of the causes could be changed in order to end poverty.

this website talks about the many different factors that can play in peoples lives that will lead to them being in poverty
  •
i think poverty will eventually be bred out wether from the most poor starting to die out and it will make it easier to help the smaller less scattered groups or somebody acually finds a decent way to help them all
  •
This article gives some basic causes of poverty and information on each of them. This article made me realize that it may not be the people's fault that they are struggling, but their environment plays a big part in it too.
  •
This article is about the suspected reasons for poverty. It provides detailed explanations for each cause of poverty; Overpopulation, Global Distribution of Resources, Costs of Living, Inadequate Education and Employment, Enviromental Degradation, and others. Reading this article, I felt guilty because of the standars of living in the U.S. I felt that in America, we worry about which new car, or designer clothing to buy, when people in developing countries worry about having enough in their gardens to feed their families. Our standards of living seem so silly compared to the standards in poverty stricken countries.
  •
I didn't know poverty was caused by so many things. This site is really informational too.
  •
Yes, their are many causes of poverty, but more importantly the efects, like malnutrition, homelessnes, and much, much more! It's crazy!
  •
I think that poverty in some places can be like a cycle, once someone gets into poverty, it is almost impossible to get out.
  •
I agree Jake. I think that poverty is a never ending cycle, After reeading alot of these articles, I think the best solution would be to educate people so they can get their own jobs and make an income to end poverty.
  •
i disagree with jake and tara. I think that poverty is not a never ending cycle, because if everyone heard about these people and we convinced them to donate 10-100$ every month or so, then we can end poverty!. Here is website where you can donate money: http://donate.worldvision.org/OA_HTML/xxwv2ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?go=section&section=10324&xxwvNavItemId=0&
  •
This article is extremly useful to me since i'm thinking about doing my report thing on causes. but its amazing how many causes there are and what they are.
  •
I think that the most prominent reasons for poverty are inadequate education and pverpopulation. This makes more sense to why the US has a lot of poverty.

Poverty Facts - 11 views

Overall it's just different facts about poverty. Some of the categories are Health, Agriculture and hunger. I wonder why women were mentioned more.

It really amazed me how little they live on a day. They live on a dollar a day and I go the mall and buy $100 worth of clothes.
  •
It Disturbied me to learn that about every min some where in the wolrd a women dies giving birth. It also shocked me that about 40% of the worlds population doesnt have bacis sanitary water.
  •
A lot of the facts in this are pretty suprising, like that every 3.6 some one dies of starvation.
  •
It was really disheartening to hear that over half the people in the world live on less then 2 dollars a day
  •
It made me feel really bad when it said that six million kids die every year from malnutrition before their 5th birthday.
  •
I could not believe that 800 million people every day go to bed hungry, and that 300 million of them are kids.
  •
800 million people go to bed hungry every night! I don't even know what it feels like to be starved or to go to bed without food. I can't even begin to imagine what these people are going through.
  •
Tara's right...it's hard to put yourself in somebody else's shoes when you are so used to having basic things, like food. But it's important to try.
  •
The Paragrapsh that really caught my attention was the phone tittled "Big corperations make poor pay higher taxes" becuase it just seems crazy to me that you would tax the people who are the most likely not to be able to pay? not to mention the majority who would be buying the corperations product?
  •
If i was hungry before i went to bed, i would just walk downstairs and get a snack. It's hard to imagine that these people do not have that, and that they are almost always hungry. I just can't even imagine that.
  •
mr reed the world sucks te rich are paying incentives to government so they wont raise taxes on the rich. so where are they gonna get the money? middle and lower class people!
  •
This article is very depressing, the way it's written. But, it does have very interesting facts. It's hard to believe that basically 1 in 6 people are living on less than a dollar a day. In our country, a dollar can barely buy you a burrito or a burger. Although some people may use the excuse that stuff costs less in other places, so what? In our country, the minimum wage is about $56 dollars a day, and a lot of people have other money saved up. It seems like so much, compared to the less than one dollar, but people are barely getting by on that. It's just not fair that a lot of people have a ton of money, but there are more people living on pratically no money.
  •
This article shows income poverty, health poverty, poverty effects on women, and poverty effects on children. From deaths to the struggles of surviving poverty, these charts and percentages show what is happening around the world to over 1 billion people in poverty.
  •
This website really opened my eyes. I knew that there was an amount of people who live under a dollar a day but i didnt realize that ONE BILLION live that way. It was also horrble to see that ELEVEN MILLION children die each year because they cant afford to cure their sickness.

Causes of, Solutions to Poverty - 0 views

This article has listed a few of the ways people have made the poverty number drop. The author of the article has also stated their opinions on how we should help the people in poverty by helping them learn how to sustain by themselves, not giving them aid.
  •
I don't like how the person makes demands for the world to follow. It shows nothing about if countries are already trying to get rid of poverty or how it would mess with their economic structure. Some countries have health care for everyone but other parts of their economy is messed up.

This site has statistics of homelessness all over the world! India has the highest homeless rate out of all 100,000,000 people without homes in all of the world, with 78,000,000 people out on the street. This are some shocking numbers, and really deserve to have a look. I find it amazing that there's enough homeless people in Hong Kong alone for them to make the list with other countries.

Take a quiz, donate rice. - 29 views

Basicly if you get questions right it donates 10 grains of rice to needy countries for every question you answer right. I thought it was a really good idea. I wonder who came up with it.

Wow. This is awesome! Just by taking a quiz I am helping the world. I think this is a great idea.
  •
i think its really cool how people come up with ideas like quizes because it allows people to have fun and still give back. you might think that a couple grains of rice is nothing but to some people, that could be a lot of food.
  •
Whoever thought of this is a genius. It's great to know that I am helping people in need, and it's really fun too!
  •
I was very suprised to see that someone came up with something like that. I think its a good way to donate rice. No cost and its fun.
  •
oh my goodness ive done this before and i feel so proud
  •
This website is a really good website to donate to people living in poverty.
  •
This is really cool, and really fun to do!! and, you're helping th world when you do it!!
  •
I've used this site many times before. It's cool because they have rice to donate, but you can help by answering simple questions. I see a lot of people in class doing it, and it's cool that we're all donating rice!!! :)
  •
that's really cool that they're donating rice for really easy questions.
  •
I have done this before. I think it's pretty amazing how much people can donate just by playing this game. This helps people in poverty so even though it's not an article, this helps so many people. :)
  •
This is a really cool website and i loved how while learning stuff you get to help people in need.
  •
I agree with everyone. Ive done this before and I think its really cool how you can help people by answering questions. It is also fun and you are helping make a difference.
  •
Wow, this makes me want to keep playing. This is a genius idea, and it makes a big impact. Imagine if this website was broadcasted over the news, so many people would feel obligated to donate.
  •
I like this article because i think it's cool how you can donate rice that's really interesting
  •
just think of all the people we can help if everyone donates and takes the quiz. We can help make an effort to make a difference to people in poverty. They should have more websites like this. Something for like homeless people. Everytime you answer something, something can be donated to a homelss shelter or something. I dont know, sounds good to me.
  •
Its so nice that you can take a quiz and donate rice at the same time.
  •
I don't get how I donate rice by taking a quiz... But alright...
  •
This is a very very fun game, i got to donate over 500 grains of rice :)
  •
I donated over 520 grains of rice. The only one I missed was obligatory what does that mean?
  •
thats a really cool website. Imagine if everyone did it just a couple times a week it could really help countries that are really struggeling with poverty.
  •
I really like this website, how you can donate grains of rice for answering questions. It's like a two way street. People in poverty get rice while we get to learn. I just wish they had some harder questions. These are too easy for me. but i did donate 530 grains of rice!
  •
That's a good way to help. It's entertaining for the viewer/player as well as helpful. Navigating the site you're bound to learn more about the hungry and poor.
  •
Wow this was really a good idea! i donated 720 grain of rice :) This was really fun and however thought of this idea, it was a really good one! Godd article Marlee!
  •
i like the quiz, but i don't know if they actually donating rice. if they do donate rice i think it is a smart idea, but if they don't donate rice, then what is the point?
  •
This website is sweet! I think this was a really cool way to start fighting poverty while learning new things. It does go slowly but i will definatly do this again sometime.
  •
This is awesome. I'm enjoying helping people by just answering questions. I hope that is true that they will donate the rice.
  •
I took the quiz and donated 1000 grains of rice LITERALLY. That is also a great way to fight poverty and it is a awesome idea. But they should have more publicity to get to millions more people.
  •
I donated 500 grains of rice by answer 50 questions in a row. This is a great idea, because it gives people a game that teaches them, and they're also helping to feed the less fourtunate! I wonder what other ideas we could spin off of this?
  •
Duuuddeee! We should totally try to like tell the seventh graders about this and like make them take it! We could have like a day of like donating rice (:
  •
This is a great website to do something simple to help out families in need. Even though it's only 10 grains of rice per question that can add up very quickly.

Statistics on Poverty and Food Wastage in America - 6 views

  •
Includes many statistics, such as food wastage in America (over 100 billion lbs per year!) and poverty rate for children (55% for children under 6 living with a single mother!). I Found some of these statistics very surprising, but sadly, not unbelieveable.
  • ...8 more comments...
  •
I can't believe Americans waste about 100 billion pounds of food each year.
  •
It's hard to believe that so many people in the world's richest country aren't always able to put food on the table. it is especially sad that so many children go to bed hungry. but i'm glad there are companies out there that help the hungry and supply them with food.
  •
With the amount of resources wasted here, we can feed every homeless person! We're not very considerate...
  •
wow thats really aweful how much we abuse our resources so badly, and yet not surprising like julia said
  •
With the knowledge that so much of our food is being wasted, I wonder if things have been put into action to help this.
  •
its amazing how unbalanced wealth is
  •
What I found hard to swallow was that people wasted 14% of their food. That just strikes me as wasteful.
  •
I think that 20% of people in the US who request food not getting it is crazy, especially in America where we have some of the richest people in the world.
  •
This article gives information on Food wasage in america. It tels how much food is wated per year and how many people would have gladly accepted it. This article also gives some statistics on poverty in the united states.
  •
35.9 million people in America live below the poverty line. About 100 billion pounds of food each year is wasted in America. Those living in poverty would gladly accept the food that would go to waste. Some families have to skip a meal or each very little becasue they can't afford to eat alot. In a house, about 14% of the food that is bought will be wasted. And around 49 million people could have been fed by that food. \nSeeing all of the wasted food and people that could use that food makes me want to find a way to save some of that food and give it to people in poverty. Also it's sad to know that there are alot of kids out there that live in poverty. If I were a parent it would be hard on me not being able to provide for my kids.

I was shocked where it said, "At least 80% of humanitly lives on less than $10 a day". There's something wrong with humanity if this is all we have. This article gives a lot of surprising facts.
  •
Some of the graphs really made me sad. There was $105 billion spent on alcoholic drinks and $400 billion spent on narcotics drugs, what really made me sad was that there was only $6 billion spent on BASIC education, and $9 billion spent on water sanitation throughout the world. It made me sad..
  •
These are statistics about poverty. There are several graphs and charts that show how poverty effects different countries. Alot of the graphs are surprising and make me very sad. In 1998 more money was spent on Narcotics Drugs and Alcoholic Drinks than was spent on sanitation, basic education, and health (nutrition)
  •
This is unbelieveable! 22,000 children die every day due to poverty? It makes me feel like we really need to do SOMETHING. We have enough money to make a big change in the poverty levels, if we did something about it.
  •
i think its really sad that over half of the world makes less than 2.30 dollars a day. its also sad how many kids and people die each day from poverty and hunger. we should think of better ways to provide other people with food because there is enough for everyone.

  •
It made me upset that nearly one in four children live in households that struggle to put food on the table. It is very sad and depressing
  •
it suprised me that only 13% of people in the u.s. live in poverty.
  •
It surprised me that 26.9 percent of latino's have a hard time to put food on the table. I feel sad.
  •
if america is one of the wealthiest countries we should be sharing the wealth instead of keeping it to ourselves. it surprised me that most people will go through poverty before they are 65.

This site will tell about facts and causes of poverty. It really amazed me how most of humanity lives on just a few dollars a day.
  •
This article contains the causes of poverty as well as possible solutions. This article aslo has many other arrticles within it about poverty. I was amazed at some of the statistics this article gave but also hopeful that the problem is being addressed and solutions are being thought of.
  •
This website Starts with some poverty facts like that 1 out of 2 children live in poverty. Then it continues with an article. Almost Half the world lives on 2.50 a day. Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn't happen. It also has some solutions to poverty.
  •
This article had several subsections about things like major causes and poverty around the world. It had a lot of statistics about poverty that I didn't know before like the fact that less than 1% of what the world spends on military wepons was needed to put every child in schools by 2000 but id didn't happen, or that 1 out of 2 children live in poverty around the world. It was really sad.
  •
Almost half of the people in the world live on $2.50 or less per day. 1 billion children are in poverty. Growing countries with growing economies put financial stress on people in poverty because things cost a lot of money to provide the government with money. I thought this was interesting learning about how poverty affects the world and how not much is being done for people in poverty.
  •
Sometimes it isn't your fault for being in poverty. You may be born in poverty, and you may have not have a lot of money to begin with. But some people have addictions to drugs, alcohol, gambling etc.
  •
This site gives reasons for poverty as well as data. This site is a compilation of a lot of articles on poverty through 2000.
  •
this article has a lot of facts and statistics about poverty. It was really shocking to see that 80% of the world lives on less than $10 a day. and that Less than 1%of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000.

Wow, my gosh. I feel so bad for those people that can barely even stay alive because they can't afford food... I really can't imagine what it's like to feel like that D:
  •
Many people are confused why people are getting into poverty. Here is some good explainations. This really helped me understand more.
  •
i cant imagine that happeneding to me or let alone anybody else!!! i want to buy food for all people in poverty now!
  •

The article gives many facts about the world wide issue, poverty. Almost half the world - over 3 billion people - live on less than $2.50 a day. Ths also gives graphs and stats about the percent of people in the world at different poverty levels. It gives many other graphs and stats too but i found this one the most interesting.
  •
wow 2.50 dollars? dang thats horrible. thats like lunch for us.. its pretty depressing that these people live like this. this topic just makes me really depressed..
  •
This article talks about what causes poverty.
  •
    no really? sorry but really
  •
This is about what the causes of poverty are and what people going through poverty have to live with every day. I was surprised that over 3 billion people have to live off of less that $3 a day considering how much things cost here. A school lunch for us is around there so that is like just eating one meal every day.
  •
I think that the charts and graphs on this website were interesting. It's shocking that over 3 BILLION people around the world are living off of less than $3 a day.
  •
that is sooooooo big and i agree with kayla! i cant belive that people are living off of 3$ a day! i could never do that! rhat is less than what we pay for lunch!
  •
this artical shows the percent of people in the world at different poverty levels each year
  •
Wow...this article really grabs you with the first few facts. I find it heartbreaking that 1 in 2 children, over 1 billion in all, live in poverty. When one is born into poverty, it's hard to leave it. These 1 billion children may never know what it's like to not be hungry.

This article is about the countries that are effected most by poverty and gives plenty of solutions to poverty. One example of a solution is to improve the training and equipment of agricultural farmers to increase crop yields and conserve the environment.
  •
This shows the solutions to world poverty and it shows the amount of poverty all over the world.
  •
This article explains the different "Types" of poverty, like in the U.S compared to africa. It also gives solutions to abolish this mess.

About poverty in Africa and it has stories, and pictures, and facts . i was really sad how the artical said "it is estimated that more than 18 million people have died to date, of which over 3 million were children. Additionally, more than 25 million adults " i was shocked

i think that this website has some good information but people arent commenting correcy bout it (this doesot as a comment, to the teachers)
  •
if i could, i would totally go to africa and give everysingle child something to help them through the hard times. Just a little teddy bear will do the trick, just to have something to hold and love. that makes them feel happy inside. This artical is about how africa is such a poor country and they need halp and fast. children are getting water from streams that other people have to use the restroom in and take showers with. its so sad. D: my heart aches for them.

I think this website had a lot of things to read, but it was all good information. It was very interesting to read the left side, all of the short facts.

More people die as a result of extreme poverty than of any other cause. I wanna know what from poverty, from not being able to buy food or is it from not being able to go to a doctor when they are sick? Is it both? I wanna know what exactly is it. I was hurt to find out the 10 million kids in developing countiers die before the age of 5. Its painful to hear about thoose things and now at this moment i am woundering what is for lunch and i had breakfast this morning and that i am already 13 and have had a nice life so far but some kids wont even get to be my age.
  •
Thia gives a lot of facts about poverty, that you would not think about, i can't believe that their are 1.37 billion people living on less than 1.25 a day
  •
I can not believe how sad some of this facts are. I did not know that 1/3 of deaths are accounted for by poverty (hunger, homlessness) That was outragous. I really liked how quick and easy the facts were, so you learned lots in a short amount of time.
  •
These statistics account for one third of all human deaths. More people die as a result of extreme poverty than of any other cause. This article says that !8 million people die every year because of poverty and hunger. That is only 1/3 of people accounted for. There is still 2/3 that people dont evenknow about.18 million is a lot of people. But 18 million is only the number of people recorded who died. There are millions of others dieing every year more than recorded. That was a major shock to me. I dont understand how this many people alone struggle with hunger. They could go days without food in their bodys. That just amazes me.
  •
Its so so sad to see all of the people effected by poverty, and how many people die from it
