Wow! Has it really gotten so bad that 1 in 4 familys struggle to put food on the table? I meen,i can't think about that because sometimes if i don't like whats on my plate then i throw it away and some people woule die for that.

The "Causes of Hunger in the US" article was super interesting. It made me realize that we have so much food in the US but if you don't have money to buy it, then you just can't buy it at all.

Its about when young kids are born into a family thats poor and it affects the stress hormones and its also about paul krugman talking about the change in poverty, through out the years.

I feel horrible for kids growing up in poverty. It's not their fault what family they are born into, but they still have to deal with it. This article tells about how growing up in poverty poisions your mind. You are an outcast, and are looked down upon. It messes with your homones and can damage your views of yourself and others. Because of this, a lot of kids are never able to get out of living in poverty, continuing the awful cycle.

I find it so sad that poverty is a cycle like that. Poverty stops you from being able to et good jobs and make enough money to get out of poverty.

i cant believe that almost 3 BILLION people are in poverty in the world. one of our friends could be in poverty and we dont even know it.

thats amazing that just one group has helped more than 31 million peolpe all over the world.

It's phenomenal that the nonprofit organization improved the lives of over 31 million people in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the middle east.

i can't believe that 3 billion people live on 2$ of food everyday. That is half of the world.

I thought it was cool that this organization helped actually educate and train people to become farmers. It's one thing to give money to help a family in poverty, but eventually that money will run out. By training people to be farmers, they can then get a job and make a steady income to support their family on their own.

I thought this was a very good article to read! I liked how they helped these people by not only feeding them but teaching them, giving some health care and standing alongside families that need soulutions to problems. THat is alot of people that need help. THis program is doing a great job of helping those in need.

I can not believe 1.5 million people in ohio make less then $22,050 a year. Its so sad, to think that maybe they couldn't get food for their family or have a cozy house to go to at night.

there was a great family in ohio, then one day everything changed and turned in a different direction. one night the father looses his job, and then that once great family became under the level of poverty. they need help!

This article form the Columbus Dispatch is talking about how Ohio's population has increased since 2002 by 1.2 percent while the people living in poverty has grown 41.7%. I was really surprised at how many people live in poverty in our state. I think That This increase had to do with so many job losses in ohio

This article was posted on January 22, 2010, just one year ago. In this article you will find suprising statstics, showing the hgh rate of poverty in our own home state. The unemployment rate has soared in the past few years, and more Ohioans are finding it hard to cope. This article almost made me sick to my stomach, seeing that so many people are living in poverty, and that I was totoally oblivious to it. I felt guilty in a sense, since I have not even NOTICED that there was such a problem with poverty. It was very informational, as well as somewhat recent.

This article literally comes close to home. Everybody thinks that Columbus and the suburbs of it are really rich, but the statistics proved me wrong.. And the fact that we've gone nine months now with "double digit unemployment" is too bad. Everybody deserves to be supported. If our society makes money so important for life, why can't they provide jobs? Ridiculous...

Reading this article, I felt guilty because of the standars of living in the U.S. I felt that in America, we worry about which new car, or designer clothing to buy, when people in developing countries worry about having enough in their gardens to feed their families. It really amazed me how little they live on a day. They live on a dollar a day and I go the mall and buy $100 worth of clothes.

It Disturbied me to learn that about every min some where in the wolrd a women dies giving birth. It also shocked me that about 40% of the worlds population doesnt have bacis sanitary water.

A lot of the facts in this are pretty suprising, like that every 3.6 some one dies of starvation.

I could not believe that 800 million people every day go to bed hungry, and that 300 million of them are kids.

800 million people go to bed hungry every night! I don't even know what it feels like to be starved or to go to bed without food. I can't even begin to imagine what these people are going through.

The Paragrapsh that really caught my attention was the phone tittled "Big corperations make poor pay higher taxes" becuase it just seems crazy to me that you would tax the people who are the most likely not to be able to pay? not to mention the majority who would be buying the corperations product?

If i was hungry before i went to bed, i would just walk downstairs and get a snack. It's hard to imagine that these people do not have that, and that they are almost always hungry. I just can't even imagine that.

This article is very depressing, the way it's written. But, it does have very interesting facts. It's hard to believe that basically 1 in 6 people are living on less than a dollar a day. In our country, a dollar can barely buy you a burrito or a burger. Although some people may use the excuse that stuff costs less in other places, so what? In our country, the minimum wage is about $56 dollars a day, and a lot of people have other money saved up. It seems like so much, compared to the less than one dollar, but people are barely getting by on that. It's just not fair that a lot of people have a ton of money, but there are more people living on pratically no money.

that was a really inspirational article...i hope more people realize that often it isn't the people's fault-they just weren't given a chance to start a new life without all that baggage.

Peterson's story was very sad but it was interesting too see that she used education as her solution. I hope that people who are like her read her story and use education as their solutions. If she can inspire me im sure she can inspire alot of people just like her.

I agree that educating people about poverty is one of the best ways to help it and to prevent it. educating people about the effects of poverty and educating people in general so they can go to school and get jobs is good.

I also agree that education is one of the ways to help stop poverty. Because if people are educated, they can get a job and provide for the family. It wont solve the probelm all the way because their income may not match up to the amount of money needed to live. But educating people is a good start.
