In preparation for the ACT, I have been studying with Spark Notes. Not only does the website gives you tips on how to take the test, but it gives you some practice questions too. My goal is to strengthen my score on the English component of the ACT, and so I have been focusing on the English practice problems. They also have a free practice test as well, which was nice because all of the other study guides for ACT/SAT are not free. Hopefully studying with this tool will increase my standardized testing score.
Free online dictionaries - Spanish, French, Italian, German and more. Conjugations, audio pronunciations and forums for your questions. This website is really incredible. It has helped me with French so much. When I was trying to translate my letter from English to French, this tool made it so much easier to just look up a word that I needed to know! It even gives you the conjugations, tenses, and any other forms of the word that you could possibly need to know! I'd highly recommend this resource to anyone learning a language or anyone who just wants to know how to say something in a different language.
This source has been vital to me to learning languages. It does not teach languages (so far) that do not use the same characters as English, but it teaches all of the major European languages. It starts you off by teaching you how to say you are drinking or eating and your gender, and slowly raises your skill level in the language by adding more vocabulary and the longer you work on the courses, the faster you'll be able to say exactly what you want! This resource has helped me to keep up my French skills during vacations and breaks for school, it also has helped me to have very basic skills in German, Spanish, and Italian. I would highly recommend this app (YES! IT'S AN APP FOR YOUR MOBILE PHONE! AS WELL AS A WEBSITE!) to anyone who's even the slightest bit interested in learning a language. It will slowly build you up using the strategy of making you translate from English to the language and vice versa. This is a must-use for anyone learning a European language.
This is a site that I have used in the past and actually downloaded onto my phone. This is a great site to learn more about a language and to play games to improve!
This website has a lot of information on how to go about designing sets and props. It also has information about working with other production team members. This includes information on how to draw floor plans to show your fellow production team members exactly what you are thinking the set should look like. The article gives a list of suggested pieces to add to a set that make your set successful and good quality. A list of designing tools are also written on the bottom of the page.
The main points in this article are the settlements, population sources, the relationships with Native Americans, government, religion, and economy and population growth for the English, French and Spanish Colonies. The purpose of this article is to show the similarities and differences between the English, French and Spanish Colonists during the founding of the New World. There are many topics covered in this article, however the most important topic is the colonists and how they are different even though they came from the same continent: Europe. This articles is a comparison of the three colonists groups and which group would be the best suited to colonize the New World.
This is a very useful source to use as notes or to help you debate a certain side, because it shows you the group's strong points as well as the drawbacks. Other sources that I have used only talk about on group of colonists and you really have to dig for answers, whereas this site is organized in a chart and all the information is right in front of you.
This was very useful for my U.S. History class because this website showed the different groups of European colonists and their strengths and weaknesses.
This website has many tips and even has sample essays for how to write a good supplemental essay for college. If you explore the website more it has writing tips as well. This will be useful as I start to write supplemental essays.
In English we started a Shakespeare unit. While reading Shakespeare many of the words I was not familiar with. I found this site and it helped me to define the meanings of these words. This site is alphabetized so everything is quite easy to find. After I learned what the words meant I felt that I could finally understand what Shakespeare was writing.
This is a great site for people trying to find information on any current event. People can also go back and look at news from events that happened a long time ago. I have found this site very helpful when doing research for papers in US history and English.
This is a presentation tool that I have used in my English 10 class. The idea is to have one background picture, and then as many links as you want on it. It is fun, easy, and a wonderful option to present with.
Interesting article on the "top 10" words that cannot be translated to english. As I have learned over the years it is quite hard to translate one dialect into the other because many words don't correspond.
This cookbook contains many wonderful recipes, as well as commentary on Nepali life and eating culture. It was essential for me upon arriving home from Nepal, as I wanted to cook the foods I had been eating over there but did not having many recipes. It also translates many common ingredient names from Nepali into English, which was very helpful.
Khan Academy where college professors upload videos on what lessons they teach in class. Anyone can access these lessons, and learn about the different subject matters. It has videos on math, English, science, and history.
This is a great site for helping you with writing. I breaks down essays into all the necessary parts and gives you advice on how to be affective with your writing. It tells you everything from how to research properly, to making an outline and a thesis. This was helpful for me when we were assigned essays in English. The site prompted me to complete my essays before they were due so I wouldn't be rushed. This would be very applicable to classroom environments to help struggling and proficient students alike. I find this site extremely reliable because even though this is subjective information, the reservoir of information greatly improved my writing. I would recommend this to anyone who wishes to become a better writer.
