The study found mixed effects of increased learning time programs on student academic and nonacademic outcomes. Findings suggest that the impacts of these programs depend on the settings, implementation features, and types of students targeted.
Transitioning away from seat time, in favor of a structure that creates flexibility, allows students to progress as they demonstrate mastery of academic content, regardless of time, place, or pace of learning. Competency-based strategies provide flexibility in the way that credit can be earned or awarded, and provide students with personalized learning opportunities.
In addition to improving outcomes in academic content areas, there are some overarching considerations for using technology well in the classroom. In the following sections, we take a look at using technology for collaborative discussion, assessment, and supporting digital literacy. We also offer research-based suggestions of programs that can be useful for each area.
This article explains that differentiated learning is not the same as personalized learning. From my interpretation, differentiated learning is tailored to the needs of a learner within a specific framework (such as State Standards/Common Core) while personalization also considers all of the learner's interests outside of the overarching academic goals, paces the learning to the needs of the student, and uses feedback to adjust as necessary.
This is an awesome way to make simple and easy videos in the classroom. You could use it for community building and have everyone make a presentation about their life story or have students narrate the process of some academic topic. It is endless!
