Conozco al profesor que ha llevado a cabo la investigación, Dr. Vicente Arévalo, y sé de su capacidad de innovación. En este caso, la aplicación es capaz de responder a una necesidad básica: la inclusión de aquellos individuos con discapacidad en un aula, de manera que todos puedan convivir en un clima de armonía y normalidad. La inmediata traducción de voz a lenguaje Braille facilita este hecho y permite dar un paso más en la realidad perseguida de una Escuela Inclusiva.

La aplicación cubre un hueco fundamental en la búsqueda de una Escuela Inclusiva, al permitir a personas con discapacidad (en este caso, auditiva), poder participar de manera natural en la dinámica de un aula, interaccionando con el resto de sus compañeros. Ello se consigue gracias a esta aplicación, que permite realizar una traducción simultánea e inmediata del lenguaje hablado al lenguaje Braille, haciendo más próxima la realidad de una completa escuela inclusiva.

The different approach needed to market traditional educational resources and OER

Thank you for sharing. The article highlight a real-life problem. I am sure in my country many faculty members and librarians of higher educational establishment are not aware of OER and therefore they prefer safe and sure textbooks. Librarians should be first to explore, understand and market this type of resources. At the same time time may be needed in order to change educational policy and choice of textbooks.

After watching the Willinsky video, this hit home even more. I think the value of quality education is extremely important, and creating a "global village" of learning is still in its growing pains. Having a face-to-face instructor/professor/facilitator lets you ask the questions that pop to mind and being in a classroom setting allows an idea to flow and develop into other ideas. There are a lot of social media tools that are familiar to a lot of students living in a Western culture, but those social tools are not always available to developing countries; many do not have access to schools or even have a computer - as this article indicates, MOOCs are certainly a venue that opens learning opportunities for those who do not have access to learning in a formal environment, but may have access to the internet. What I particularly found interesting were the various MOOC categories - Gateway: MOOCs for prepping to get into higher learning; Research showcase: promote an institute's research areas; Professional skills: MOOCs for those who need to "upskill" or specialize…and there are others. The main reason for taking this course was to improve my knowledge of what social media is out there (MOOCs are part of it), how it is being used, and how useful is this "new" media is within the publishing realm. It is a challenge.

In this article, Barker believes that technology has somehow become harmful to communicate in person among teenagers. Teens prefer to write to each other such as pick up their phones to ping each other, communicating by texting though instant messaging and social networking sites like Facebook, Twtter rather than talking to each other in person. Thus this has given out a general that is technology has become a problem in communication since cell phone has become widely used in society. Therefore, within the development in cell phone technology, smartphone was invented, which a mobile phone is built on a mobile computing platform that not only a communication tool to make phone call or text message but also allows people to go on internet or play game for their pastime. Hence this with the development for technology, people spends more time on their smartphones rather than having interaction between people which has become an issue in our life. By reading this article, it leads my thought to online education. Being honest, I enjoy the in person discussion rather than online written discussion however digital platform has provided a convenient way for people to share their ideas. However this article did raised a good question, technology makes everything easier for people but does it somehow hurt the communication among people?

A lot of kids use smartphones or tablet everyday, and they even do not need their parents to tell them how to use these devices, it is like kids have the innate ability to use the technological devices. There are debates on whether touchscreen technology is good or bad for kids. For my personal opinion, touchscreen technology would make them lack communication skill and social skill. However, by providing sound effects, colours and moving objects on the screen, it could get kids' attention and interest to learn something they feel really boring such as math, by this way they could learn faster and understand better. Therefore, touchscreen technology is not totally bad or good for kids, it depends on how parents help kids to balance how much time they could spend on touchscreen technology. It seems the only way for kids, because they are too young to have self control.

Politicians are trying to control and regulate something they don't understand. Back to basics is not the answer. Education must create enthusiasm and help people to grow. If you think some stuff in school need to be boring, don't be a teacher!

Textbook Crisis - For using just a chapter from a book, I think this is a very good idea. I did not know teachers and professors could do this. I think this is very productive idea, instead of students or making students buy the whole book for a chapter.
