Everyone wants Bart. Or SpongeBob. Or one of those Aqua Teen Hunger Force dudes. Each year, student yearbook editors from across the country call the Student Press Law Center to ask how they can get an image of Bart Simpson (of the FOX-TV animated show, "The Simpsons") - or whoever the cartoon character de jour happens to be - into their yearbook or other publication without running afoul of copyright law. They usually receive both some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that they may not be able to use Bart in precisely the way they had hoped. Bart is a copyrighted image and federal copyright law restricts its use. The good news, however, is that with a little extra work, planning and creativity, it should be possible to legally include Bart in some way.

CNN Student News' main feature is the daily news report with broadcaster Carl Azuz, posted Monday through Friday, in which the news of the day is paired with background information that's important for understanding the issues.

The Learning Network is a blog-style website that features New York Times news content for teacher use. Great features include a word of the day, a fill-in-the-blanks news story activity, a visual thinking activity that poses an image with questions of inference and comprehension, and even the Six Questions, which regularly use embedded video and audio.

"WiredSafety's volunteers have been doing this since right after the Web was launched. For more than 16 years we have been helping people who need our help online. Our sites have had different formats, approaches and lots and lots of coders, editors, writers and webmasters. We are all volunteers, and our online presence looked different every time someone added something or took something away. The site and our other sites grew, but not always in the right way. Our haphazard sites and navigation would be modified to adapt to a need we discovered, and new topics shoe-horned in when they emerged. No one overall vision for the site. And it stopped reflecting our One Vision, One Mission, One WiredSafety rule. We never had enough time to plot our site, update everything and adopt the newest technologies to help us address the needs of the public or even all our volunteers. Please accept our apologies. That was before. This is now. With the generous support of Google, Spectorsoft and a couple others we have ripped everything down and started from scratch. For media folks like me, the cool, interactive graphical program that is Google Earth has always had a Holy Grail-inserting moving media so it plays right over the terrain, as still images will do. We've gotten a lot closer with two new features, one with mixed blessings. First, Google Earth now has a YouTube layer.
