The Oakland-based Kenneth Rainin Foundation is committed to change through inquiry, creativity, and compassion and works to enhance quality of life by championing the arts, promoting early childhood literacy, and supporting research on chronic diseases. In support of this mission, the foundation is accepting applications for its Open Spaces Program. Through the program, grants ranging between $50,000 and $200,000 over twenty-four months will be awarded to nonprofits prepared to partner with artists in the Bay Area to create temporary, place-based art projects that are responsive to issues relevant to communities in San Francisco and Oakland. The program is intended to strengthen the Bay Area as a center for arts experimentation and aims to support collaborations across various disciplines, diverse media, and technology; projects taking place outdoors at sites accessible by public transportation; and projects that compensate artists at a significant level.

The mission of the Administration for Community Living (ACL) Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse. Through outreach, counseling, and education, the SMP program increases awareness and understanding of health care programs to protect Medicare beneficiaries from the economic and health-related consequences associated with Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. ACL currently provides grant funding to support 53 SMP projects, including grantees in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The SMP projects use this funding to provide local outreach, education, and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries through a trained volunteer workforce. SMP projects teach Medicare beneficiaries to protect their Medicare numbers, to detect billing discrepancies on their quarterly Medicare Summary Notice statements, and to report suspicious activity for further investigation. In addition, SMP projects actively disseminate fraud prevention and identification information through the media, outreach campaigns, and community events.

Raise awareness and understanding of science and technology and their potential to address a global challenge. Request for Proposals: For 2018, the IEEE Foundation Grants Program will invest approximately $304,000 to raise awareness and understanding of science and technology and their potential to address a global challenge. Proposals are invited from IEEE Organizational Units for projects that promote public understanding about how science and technology are being or could be used to address global challenges - including energy, cybersecurity, security, health care, and sustainability. In evaluating proposals, the Grants Committee will seek to determine the extent to which the proposed project: Provides technical information at a level that can be understood by the general public Reaches a broad cross-section of society Has a well-articulated communications plan, that includes social media, designed to increase awareness and engagement of the target audience Presents, in a neutral and balanced manner, an analysis of the social benefits and costs of deploying the subject technology Avoids advocating a particular action but encourages and enables participants to make an informed decision Directly involves IEEE members including, as appropriate, student members Encourages the active participation of the target audience Provides an effective means of determining the impact of the project Matches the IEEE Foundation's Grant criteria

This notice solicits applications to support a Telehealth Center of Excellence. The primary purpose of this program is to examine the efficacy of telehealth[1] services in rural and urban areas. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will be located in a public academic medical center that: Has a successful telehealth program with a high annual volume of telehealth visits; Has an established reimbursement structure that allows telehealth services to be financially self-sustaining; and Has established programs that provide telehealth services in medically underserved areas with high chronic disease prevalence and high poverty rates. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will serve as a national clearinghouse for telehealth research and resources, including technical assistance. To achieve that goal, the Telehealth Center of Excellence should have substantial experience operating a telehealth program that offers a broad range of clinical services and has experience demonstrating how their efforts have improved access to care and enhanced health outcomes for their patients. Priority will be given to applications that show capacity to design and implement quasi-experimental or experimental studies (using primary and/or secondary data sources) with theory-driven research questions and methodologies that will yield important information about the impact of the arts within the selected topic area. Competitive applications will take into account any extant research that serves as a basis for a theoretical framework and helps to motivate the proposed project. We also welcome novel and promising research approaches, such as rigorous analyses of organizational or social networks and/or social media data. In addition, we are interested in translational research that moves scientific evidence toward the development, testing, and standardization of new arts-related programs, practices, models, or tools that can be used easily by other practitioners and researchers.

The program provides support to nonprofits interested in making long-term improvements in their management, governance, and/or organizational capacity. Grants may be used for capacity-building activities that include but are not limited to strategic planning; financial management, including cash flow, budget development, and financial controls; program evaluation planning; communications and marketing, including website development, public relations, and the use of social media; resource development and fundraising; human resources, including professional development, succession planning, staffing structure, assessment, and retention; information systems management, including technology enhancements; board development, including assessment, recruitment, training, and structuring; and restructuring and relationship building with other nonprofit organizations aimed at strengthening service delivery, reducing costs, and sharing resources.

Pandemics have far reaching consequences that range from deaths to shutting down the economy as we have witnessed during the recent COVID19 crisis. Hence there is a need to be better prepared for such pandemics. We need to solve problems ranging from predictive analytics innovative devices for saving lives to technology for devising voting machines. The social and economic impact for the above areas is huge and some of the work can be transformative and save lives. Areas of interest to us include, but are not limited to: - Mathematical models for spread and the impact of pandemics. - Scalable simulation techniques for pandemics (e.g. with multi agents). - Biomedical/Nano sensor devices for detecting symptoms and agents. - Algorithms for rapid exploration of the drug screening and discovery workflows (e.g. use reinforcement learning) - Advanced computational biology techniques for sequencing, detecting viral evolution (e.g. in COVID-19). - Algorithms and systems for contact tracing (with privacy preserving). - Algorithms and recommendation systems for curating media and news. - Collaboration techniques for more effective health, and efficiency during pandemics. Improved identity and security techniques. - Distributed Ledgers, their applications and their governance for and during pandemics. - Pandemic data science - understanding the patterns and the impact of a pandemic like COVID-10. Creation of curated data sets. We are interested in both the science and technology aspects of these problem sets, and, particularly, in the intersections between them.

How we measure progress reveals our values and shapes our future. So what does America's portrait of progress tell us about our collective values and goals? The traditional portrait presented by most of our media and political leaders includes the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and stock market. But do such measures really reflect our most cherished values and aspirations

In 2017, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will invest $12.8 million in innovative research related to pancreatic cancer, a 33 percent increase over 2016. This investment includes both the network's competitive, peer-reviewed Research Grants Program and its internal research initiatives. To that end, the network has issued an RFA for its Early Detection Targeted Grant program, through which grants of up to $1 million over four years will be awarded to support ancillary research studies that identify promising blood biomarkers or imaging approaches with the potential to facilitate the use of specimens and/or participants in a cohort of new-onset diabetics and to validate components of a protocol for the early detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

The Journalist to Journalist Project of the National Press Foundation is working with the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease to offer all-expenses-paid fellowships for health journalists to cover the 44th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Paris, France. Fellowship winners will attend three days of expert training from Tuesday to Thursday, 29-31 October, then cover the conference through Sunday, 3 November 2013.

The AHCJ Reporting Fellowships on Health Care Performance are intended to support U.S.-based applicants who have interesting projects in mind for their news outlets that hold the promise of informing and educating the public. Applicants should have a working knowledge of the topic and a good idea of what it will take to complete the project. The project could take several forms. The fellow could choose to evaluate a local health system or a specific local or regional program or an aspect of the national system. An approach might be to compare two health care systems addressing a common problem - access to care for poor and uninsured patients, for example - to see why one community is performing better and why. Fellows pursuing projects such as these would want to consider public data and relevant academic studies in addition to interviews with health care and civic leaders, patients and others.

The Association of Health Care Journalists has teamed up with the National Library of Medicine to present the AHCJ-NLM Fellowships. AHCJ will select four journalists to spend a week on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. The selected journalists will: Learn how to explore the latest NIH research Learn to understand and interpret biomedical statistics Take advantage of NLM's data, programs and resources for stronger stories Get hands-on training in PubMed, MedlinePlus, ClinicalTrials.gov, ToxNet and Household Products Database Enhance your medical and scientific reporting through this specialized fellowship. To analyze and communicate complex scientific topics is more than just a profession - it is an art.  Medical science journalism is no exception. Accordingly, launching a career as science journalist proves to be an arduous endeavor. To help recognize emerging medical science journalists, Germany's most read medical journal Deutsches Ärzteblatt, the European Union of Science Journalists' Associations (EUSJA), and the World Health Summit (WHS) will grant the "Next Generation of Science Journalists" Award for the second time. The top selected five young professionals will be invited to participate in the WHS 2013 and experience a unique international networking and learning opportunity. This provides a career head-start as the annual World Health Summit attracts some 1000 high-ranking participants from all health-related sectors - from Nobel Prize laureates to CEOs and future leaders. Additionally, each winner will receive 500 Euro to recompense travel expenses.

The Board of Regents is seeking high quality, focused cooperative education and internship program proposals from Ohio institutions of higher education and their partners. This program has been funded  through one-time casino licensing fees; it is expected that the funds will be awarded to build systems to sustain co-ops and internships beyond the direct investment from the State and to ensure these workbased learning opportunities are relevant to the needs of students and businesses. Funds will be awarded to build the capability and capacity of programs to engage more students, more businesses,  and more faculty members in co-op and internship programs. The programs should address the talent needs of JobsOhio key industries.

The Mary Baker Eddy Library awards fellowships to academic scholars and independent researchers for research in its collections, which center on the papers of Mary Baker Eddy and records documenting the history of the Christian Science movement.
