    The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research is dedicated to improving the quality and delivery of patient care by providing support for scientifically based and clinically relevant research related to the effectiveness of physical therapist practice. To that end, the foundation is accepting Letters of Intent for its Magistro Family Research Grant. Through the program, grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded to research projects focused on evaluating the effectiveness of interventions most commonly delivered by physical therapists, as determined by current practice standards, as well as those focused on the development of innovative physical therapist interventions. Priority will be given to studies that examine not only the therapeutic effectiveness of interventions but also their cost effectiveness. FPTR supports only studies in which the interventions are provided by physical therapists or select components of the intervention are provided by physical therapist assistants under the direction and supervision of physical therapists.

    The YES Initiative seeks to support projects that address the HHS priority to expand youth participation in sports and encourage regular physical activity, especially for youth populations with lower rates of sports participation and communities with limited access to athletic facilities or recreational areas. YES Initiative applicants should address unhealthy physical activity and nutrition behaviors in racial/ethnic minority and socio-economically disadvantaged youth, including specifically girls, and provide opportunities to learn skills and gain experiences that contribute to more positive lifestyles and enhance their capacity to make healthier life choices. The YES Initiative intends to identify effective collaborations and/or existing community organizational partnerships that aim to improve physical activity and nutrition by increasing sports participation of racial/ethnic minority and/or socio-economically disadvantaged youth, including specifically girls. YES Initiative projects will develop and implement sports fitness programs based on successful evidenced based practices for youth engagement, using experimental design, and result in the identification of model sustainable strategies that increase participation in range of physical activities that support a healthy lifestyle and improve the overall health among youth who, at baseline, do not meet current physical activity guidelines.

To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its Goergeny High Impact/High Priority Research Grant.     Wishing to advance research into the health benefits - physical, mental and emotional - of physical activity and sports, the Weiss Research Endowment has been established for ACSM students studying in this field. One project will be funded for applied rather than for basic research, with the intent of applying the results to programs involving physical activity and sports. The psychological and emotional benefits of physical activity are of particular importance to the benefactors of this endowment, Drs.     The nuclear theory program encompasses the structure and reactions of nuclei, and of hadrons in few-nucleon and nuclear environments, and the quark/gluon substructure expressed by QCD.  Supported research includes contributions to broad theoretical advances as well as model building and applications to experimental programs at facilities such as NSCL, RHIC and Jefferson Laboratory, and to astrophysical phenomena.
