Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research: 2013 Call for Nominations | Memorial Sloan-Ketter... - 0 views

    Honoring the legacy of Paul A. Marks, MD, President Emeritus of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a distinguished scientist, the Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research recognizes outstanding young investigators who have made significant contributions to increase the understanding of cancer or improve the treatment of the disease through basic or clinical research. The Paul Marks Prize is awarded every other year to up to three investigators. The first recipients were named in 2001. The winners will present their work at a scientific symposium at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and share a cash award of $150,000. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research. Nominees must be age 45 or younger on the date of the submission deadline, April 30, 2013. Prize winners will be announced in Fall 2013.

    The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage institutions with expertise and innovative strategies for developing research and mentoring opportunities for undergraduate students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research to submit applications for 6 month planning grants for the NIH Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) initiative. The BUILD initiative aims to increase the diversity of the NIH-funded workforce by supporting collaborative programs that include novel approaches for enhancing undergraduate education, training, and mentorship, as well as infrastructure support and faculty development to facilitate those approaches. BUILD planning grants are intended to help institutions develop the necessary partnerships and infrastructure needed to be competitive for the BUILD initiative.

    The Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) is soliciting grant applications for the calendar year 2013. There will be two categories of awards: Pediatric Brain Tumor Grant Awards Our standard grant request for pediatric brain tumor awards will continue as usual. We anticipate funding up to three (3) research proposals that are a maximum of two years in duration. Funding requests cannot exceed $30,000/year or a maximum of $60,000 over the course of the award. Pilocytic Astrocytoma Award We have specific funds for one, 1-year research proposal related to pilocytic astrocytoma. The funding request for this award can be up to a maximum of $50,000.

    The AACR-Millennium Fellowship in Lymphoma Research represents a joint effort to encourage and support a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow to conduct lymphoma-based research and to establish a successful career path in this field. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to lymphoma. The fellowship provides a one-year grant of $55,000 to support the salary and benefits of the fellow while working on mentored lymphoma-related research. A partial amount of funds may be designated for non-personnel expenses, such as research/laboratory supplies, equipment, publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project and other research expenses. It is anticipated that three fellowships will be funded.

DoD Breast Cancer Postdoctoral Fellowship Award - 0 views

    The Postdoctoral Fellowship Award supports exceptionally talented recent doctoral or medical graduates in pursuit of innovative, high-impact breast cancer research during their postdoctoral training and allows them to obtain the necessary experience for an independent career at the forefront of breast cancer research. Those individuals should be exceptionally talented scientists who have demonstrated that they are the "best and brightest" of their peers. Applicants for this award must exhibit a strong desire to pursue a career in breast cancer research. Under this award mechanism, the postdoctoral fellow is considered the Principal Investigator (PI) and, as such, should write the project narrative, training plan, and other application components with appropriate guidance from the mentor. While the PI is not required to have previous experience in breast cancer research, the proposed project and training must focus on breast cancer. Applications must emphasize the PI's high potential for success in becoming an independent breast cancer researcher based on his/her qualifications, achievements (including first-author publications), and letters of recommendation. The mentor (or co-mentor, if applicable) must possess the appropriate expertise and experience in breast cancer, to include publications and active peer reviewed breast cancer funding, and clearly demonstrate a commitment to guiding the PI's research and training. If the mentor is not an experienced breast cancer researcher, then formal co-mentorship by an established breast cancer researcher is required. The application must include information about the mentor's experience in conducting innovative research and how he/she intends to support the PI's endeavors in breast cancer.

Validation and Advanced Development of Emerging Molecular Analysis Technologies for Can... - 0 views

    This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits grant applications proposing research projects on the advanced development of emerging molecular and cellular analysis technologies and technical/analytical validation in an appropriate cancer-relevant biological system. An emerging technology is defined as one that has passed the pilot developmental stage and shows promise, but has not yet been significantly evaluated within the context of its intended use. If successful, these technologies would accelerate research in cancer biology, cancer treatment and diagnosis, early detection and screening, cancer control and epidemiology, and/or cancer health disparities. This FOA solicits projects where proof-of-principle of the proposed technology or methodology has been established and supportive preliminary data are available. Projects proposed to this FOA should reflect the potential to produce a molecular analysis technology with a major impact in a broad area of cancer-relevant research. Projects proposing to use established technologies where the novelty resides in the biological or clinical question being pursued are not appropriate for this solicitation and will not be reviewed.
