This award is in memory of Linda Arenth, an active ONS and ONCC member who served as the Johns Hopkins Cancer Center's first director of nursing.  She started what is now a nationally known system to assign nursing services for different categories of cancer patients.  This award recognizes and supports excellence in both cancer nursing management and administration.

Award: A $2,000.00 award, a plaque, and travel reimbursement to attend the Opening Ceremonies at ONS Congress. The paper will be published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing. Purpose: This award was established to focus attention of the membership on quality-of-life issues in cancer care; describe the contributions of clinicians, educators, administrators, and researchers in oncology nursing to quality of life in cancer care; apply information related to quality of life to oncology nursing practice; and incorporate the philosophy of quality of life into all aspects of cancer care. The lecture is presented at the ONS Annual Congress.

Purpose: This award is named in memory of Dr. Mary Nowotny, an active ONS member and past chair of the ONS Education Committee.  She was a cancer-education advocate throughout her career and a widely published author, writing many articles on the measurement and significance of hope in patients with cancer.  The Mary Nowotny Excellence in Cancer Nursing Education award recognizes and supports excellence in cancer nursing education.

The Oncology Nursing Society Foundation is seeking Letters of Intent from beginning researchers for its mentored Research Career Development Award. Through the annual program, grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to support short-term oncology research training and mentorship, with each fellow receiving up to $18,000 to cover related expenses; the mentor (or the mentor's institution) will receive a $2,000 award in the form of an unrestricted honorarium to cover his/her consultative or research-related expenses and/or other institutional costs. To be eligible, applicants must be a registered nurse with an interest in oncology and have a completed PhD degree in nursing or a related discipline. The awards are available for beginning researchers (i.e., up to eight years after completing a PhD degree with no history of research funding as a principal investigator).

Award: $500 certificate for ONS educational resources/publications donated to the recipient's employer institution. (No cash prize to the individual recipient), a plaque, and travel reimbursement to attend the Opening Ceremonies at ONS Congress. Purpose: To recognize a Registered Nurse (RN) (or equivalent) who has contributed to the improvement of cancer care in a country outside the United States.

As the population of older adults continues to increase, the prevalence of diseases and conditions common in aging is expected to rise. Cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic lung diseases, dementia, and chronic kidney disease will likely continue to be the greatest sources of morbidity and mortality, as well as the costliest conditions to healthcare systems. However, older Americans infrequently have just one chronic health condition. In 2010, over two-thirds of Medicare beneficiaries had more than one chronic condition, and 14% had 6 or more chronic conditions. Disability and greater care needs associated with these conditions is leading to an increase in residence in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Healthcare costs will continue to grow, with health-related spending expected to top 20% of gross domestic product by 2025. Also listed under R01

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation supports research on innovative strategies for better treatments, screening, and prevention of all cancers of the lung. The foundation's goal is to fund promising scientific and clinical research initiatives that lead to more positive outcomes and improved quality of life for all lung cancer patients.   To that end, LCRF has issued a Request for Proposals designed to provide critical seed support for cutting-edge scientific research on all lung cancers. Through its Research Grant program, the foundation will support projects with a focus on basic science, translational research, clinical research, supportive care, and quality of care/outcomes.   Grants of up to $75,000 will be awarded.   The program is open to all U.S. and international investigators, including graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, physicians, medical students, and nurse researchers.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is to create Pharmacokinetics Resource Laboratories (PK Laboratories) that will support the Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN). The PK Laboratories will be expected to organize specimen collection and subsequent analysis of pharmacokinetic endpoints, drug-drug interactions, cytochromes P450 (CYP) interactions, and food effects in ETCTN studies of NCI Investigational New Drug (IND) agents. The overarching goal of the ETCTN PK Laboratories is to advance the clinical development of NCI-IND agents through achieving comprehensive understanding of pharmacokinetic behavior of these agents studied in ETCTN protocols. The ETCTN Pharmacokinetic Resource Laboratories will assure the availability of physicians, clinical pharmacologists, nurses and scientists who have the appropriate expertise in pharmacokinetic studies for early drug development and translational research. This FOA solicits U24 cooperative agreement applications from multidisciplinary groups that will conduct all pharmacokinetic studies for ETCTN early phase clinical trials filed to the IND applications in NCIs Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP).

Through the program, grants of up to $60,000 will be awarded to community-based programs and/or healthcare agencies (e.g., community health centers, cancer centers, and women's health centers) that conduct outreach, provide breast health education, and help steer medically underserved women and men to breast cancer screening services and follow-up care, as needed. Programs should educate women in their communities about breast health and encourage women to talk with a doctor or nurse to understand their individual risk of breast cancer and at what age and how often they should be screened. In addition, applicants must incorporate into their programs systems to promote the re-screening of the women served by the program. Small, community-based organizations are encouraged to apply.

The Research Project Grant (R01) supports a discrete, specified, circumscribed project to be performed by the named investigator(s) in areas representing the specific interests and competencies of the investigator(s). The proposed project must be related to the programmatic interests of one or more of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) based on descriptions of their programs.

The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA predoctoral fellowship (F31) award is to enable promising predoctoral students to obtain individualized, mentored research training from outstanding faculty sponsors while conducting dissertation research in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The proposed mentored research training must reflect the applicants dissertation research project and is expected to clearly enhance the individuals potential to develop into a productive, independent research scientist.

This Notice supersedes NOT-OD-15-024 about the NIH and AHRQ requirement for use of a new biosketch format and provides some latitude in the transition for those who have already been compiling biosketches for their large grant applications with deadlines in early in 2015. NIH and AHRQ encourages applicants to use the newly published biosketch format for all grant and cooperative agreement applications submitted for due dates on or after January 25, 2015, and will require use of the new format for applications submitted for due dates on or after May 25, 2015. Applicants may submit using the new biosketch format for due dates before January 25, 2015, if they wish.

The purpose of this Notice is to inform new NIH applicants, their mentors, and grant administrators at their institution about two upcoming webinars the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is hosting in November 2015.  These webinars are designed to give participants useful insights into our application submission and peer review processes.  CSR is the portal for NIH grant applications and their review for scientific and technical merit.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) seeks input on the restructuring of the NIH grant application instructions. We invite comments from any interested parties. We encourage feedback from PD/PIs, Administrative Offices, Offices of Sponsored Programs, Systems Administrators, and any other parties that rely on our application submission information.

Through its fellowship programme, UICC aims to support health workers and cancer professionals focussing on cancer control, including cancer prevention, early detection, epidemiology, implementation and translational research, cancer treatment (surgery, radio- and chemotherapy), multidisciplinary patient care, rehabilitation, survivorship and palliative care. In 2018 there are 3 programmes available, the UICC Technical Fellowships (UICC-TF)  which provides the learning of new knowledge and skills in cancer control through a one month visit to an institution abroad, the YY study grants allow established cancer professionals to visit an institution abroad for 3 months to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing, and Bourses pour l'Afrique Francophone for cancer professionals in Francophone Africa.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to invite applications for the Specialized Clinical Centers (hubs) of the Early Phase Pain Investigation Clinical Network (EPPIC-Net). EPPIC-Net will serve as the cornerstone of the NIHs Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative. EPPIC-Net will provide a robust and readily accessible infrastructure for carrying out in depth phenotyping and biomarker studies in patients with specific pain conditions, and the rapid design and performance of high-quality Phase 2 clinical trials to test promising novel therapeutics for pain from partners in academia or industry. Studies will bring intense focus to patients with well-defined pain conditions and high unmet therapeutic needs. EPPIC-Net will consist of one Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC), one Data Coordinating Center (DCC) and approximately 10 specialized clinical centers (hubs). The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to invite applications for the hubs within EPPIC-Net. A hub will typically be a regional medical center that will actively enroll subjects into clinical trials and studies performed in EPPIC-Net. Each hub should have ready access to patient populations with specific pain conditions and have expertise in characterization of that pain condition. A hub will additionally provide scientific leadership and administrative oversight to its multiple (2-10) satellite sites (spokes). This FOA solicits applications EPPIC-Net Specialized Clinical Centers. Separate FOAs have been issued to solicit applications for the Clinical Coordinating Center (RFA-NS-18-036) and Data Coordinating Center (RFA-NS-18-035). Clinical trials conducted through EPPIC-Net may come from a variety of sources including the HEAL Partnership, as described above, or from separate NIH funding announcements.

The American Psychological Foundation provides financial support for innovative research and programs that enhance the power of psychology to elevate the human condition and advance human potential, both today and for generations to come. As part of this mission, APF is accepting applications for its APF Trauma Psychology Grant. Through the annual program, a single grant of up to $3,000 will be awarded in support innovative work aimed at alleviating trauma. To be eligible, applicants must be an early-career psychologist (no more than ten years postdoctoral); be affiliated with a nonprofit charitable, educational, or scientific institution, or governmental entity operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes; have a demonstrated knowledge of trauma and trauma research; have demonstrated competence and capacity to execute the proposed work; and, if human participants are involved, have IRB approval from his/her host institution before funding can be awarded.

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking a Data Coordinating Center (DCC) for biospecimen and consent related activities for the Sudden Death in the Young (SDY) Case Registry. SDY is a tragic event with longstanding impact on families and communities. Although the causes of SDY are myriad, sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), sudden cardiac death and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) are three examples that have inspired public health efforts at prevention. Yet fundamental gaps in knowledge about incidence, mechanisms, and risk factors for SDY limit the identification of effective prevention efforts. This acquisition is for one contract for a SDY Data Coordinating Center with subcontracts and/or other mechanisms as needed to accomplish all necessary work described in the Statement of Work.

The NIH Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (REACH) program is envisioned as a partnership program between NIH and the qualifying research institutions to accelerate the creation of small businesses and the transition of discoveries originating from academic research into products that improve health. REACH Hubs will foster the advancement of therapeutics, preventatives, diagnostics, devices, and tools in a manner consistent with business case development, that address the needs of patients and public health.
