The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support observational or intervention research focused on reducing cancer health disparities in tobacco use in the United States. Specifically, this FOA is intended to stimulate scientific inquiry focused on innovative tobacco control policies. Applicants may propose projects in which the primary outcome of interest is on reducing tobacco use cancer health disparities in vulnerable populations by utilizing tobacco prevention and control strategies. The long-term goal of this FOA is to reduce cancer health disparities in health outcomes thereby reducing the excess disease burden of tobacco use within these groups. In addition, the first place institution will get to display the BMEidea trophy in their winning department for the year.

The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and VentureWell have come together to support and expand DEBUT, a competition that recognizes undergraduate excellence in biomedical design and innovation. DEBUT challenges teams of students in undergraduate biomedical education to solve real-world problems in healthcare. Prizes of up to $20,000 will be awarded. Strong DEBUT submissions will demonstrate a mastery of analytical and design skills and capabilities; the ability to manage the product development process; the ability to work effectively in teams; and technical communication skills. The American Cancer Society is accepting proposals for research projects with the potential to generate new knowledge of the effects of the United States healthcare system structure and the role of insurance in both access to and the outcomes of cancer screening, early detection, and treatment services. ACS is keenly interested in supporting rapid learning research on the effects of health policy changes on patients, providers, and health systems. This includes but is not limited to facilitators and barriers to care; unintended consequences; differential experiences and outcomes of patients seeking or receiving care; best practice models for quality care; and economic impact. Awards will not exceed $200,000 per year (direct costs) for up to four years. To be eligible, applicants must be affiliated with a nonprofit institution in the United States, one of its territories, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent resident of the United States. Independent investigators at all stages of their career are encouraged to apply.

To improve health and reduce the burden of disease, scientific research needs to be implemented at the population level in addition to the biological and clinical levels. Choose Ohio First provides scholarships to students in innovative academic programs developed by Ohio's two-year and four-year, public and private colleges and universities, along with their business partners. The scholarships connect students to work-based learning experiences and careers in STEMM fields in order to recruit and retain these students in Ohio. Choose Ohio First is part of a strategic effort to deepen Ohio's economic strength by increasing the talent pipeline for STEMM-related industries, including computer science, through degree and certificate completion.

The INSPIRE awards program was established to address some of the most complicated and pressing scientific problems that lie at the intersection of traditional disciplines.  It is intended to encourage investigators to submit bold, exceptional proposals that some may consider to be at a disadvantage in a standard NSF review process; it is not intended for proposals that are more appropriate for existing award mechanisms.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage projects to generate fundamental knowledge of affective processes. Basic affective science projects should have key downstream consequences for single (e.g., genetic testing consent) and multiple (e.g., adherence to oral chemotherapy regimen) event decisions and behaviors across the cancer prevention and control continuum. The FOA is expected to encourage scientific disciplines that have not traditionally conducted cancer research such as affective and cognitive neuroscience, decision science, and consumer science to elucidate perplexing and understudied problems in basic affective and decision sciences with promise of having downstream implications for cancer prevention and control science.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) plans to provide up to $40 million in total USAID funding over a period of five-years. The purpose of the activity is to increase utilization of FP services through universal health coverage. It will be accomplished through: 1) strengthening capacity to more effectively train medical providers and community health workers in FP in both the public and private sectors; and, 2) focusing and expanding public sector FP information and services to high need groups such as adolescents, youth, newlyweds, and postpartum girls and women. The results this activity will achieve include: 1. Increased qualified FP workforce in public and private sectors, and 2. Increased availability of public sector FP outreach contacts and services, particularly for adolescents and youth.
