The prestigious Pezcoller Foundation-AACR International Award for Cancer Research was established in 1997 to annually recognize a scientist of international renown: who has made a major scientific discovery in basic cancer research OR who has made significant contributions to translational cancer research; who continues to be active in cancer research and has a record of recent, noteworthy publications; and whose ongoing work holds promise for continued substantive contributions to progress in the field of cancer.

The American Cancer Society is accepting applications for its 2015 International Fellowships for Beginning Investigators, an annual program that aims to improve the exchange of cancer research knowledge, experience, expertise, and innovation. Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to beginning investigators and researchers to support the promotion of cancer control in developing countries through epidemiology, cancer control, and other areas of cancer research. The one-year fellowships are designed to advance the academic career of beginning cancer investigators by supporting their translational, clinical, behavioral or population research.

The Chernobyl Tissue Bank is a collaborative resource that is supported by the National Cancer Institute and another international partner and includes active participation of countries critically affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. The objective of the Chernobyl Tissue Bank is to maintain a research resource that supports current and future studies on the biology of thyroid cancer, a major health consequence of the Chernobyl accident. The Chernobyl Tissue Bank Coordinating Center is the critical infrastructure that serves this goal and functions to lead, plan, integrate, and achieve the stated research objectives in collaboration with the participating institutions in the Chernobyl-affected countries.

Advance your career by visiting another institute: American Cancer Society international fellowships for beginning investigators (ACSBI). The ACSBI fellowship emphasizes the transfer of knowledge from the host institute to others at the home institute. It offers the fellow the opportunity to be mentored by experts in the chosen field, receive hands on experience in clinical, behavioural or basic research, intellectual stimulation, research guidance, narrative transfer and many other opportunities to evolve scientifically and academically. The goals include not only developing future leaders in cancer research in low/middle income countries, but also facilitating a global effort in cancer prevention and control. This will be done by developing the necessary intellectual infrastructure in home countries (since ACSBI fellows must return to their home institute), encouraging collaborative interactions to facilitate interdisciplinary basic and applied cancer research, and establishing a network of researchers and translational scientists for rapid dissemination of new knowledge and technology in developing and sharing of best practices.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) plans to provide up to $40 million in total USAID funding over a period of five-years. The purpose of the activity is to increase utilization of FP services through universal health coverage. It will be accomplished through: 1) strengthening capacity to more effectively train medical providers and community health workers in FP in both the public and private sectors; and, 2) focusing and expanding public sector FP information and services to high need groups such as adolescents, youth, newlyweds, and postpartum girls and women. The results this activity will achieve include: 1. Increased qualified FP workforce in public and private sectors, and 2. Increased availability of public sector FP outreach contacts and services, particularly for adolescents and youth.

The purpose of the International Research Scientist Development Award (IRSDA) is to provide support and protected time (three to five years) to advanced postdoctoral U.S. research scientists and recently-appointed U.S. junior faculty (applicants must be at least two years beyond conferral of doctoral degree) for an intensive, mentored research career development experience in a low- or middle-income country (LMIC), as defined by the World Bank (http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-classifications/country-and-lending-groups, including "low-income," "lower-middle-income," and "upper-middle-income" countries) leading to an independently-funded research career focused on global health. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications from postdoctoral research scientists and junior faculty from any health-related discipline who propose career development activities and a research project that is relevant to the health priorities of the LMIC under the mentorship of LMIC and U.S. mentors.        

Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS) works to improve women's lives through advancing and supporting feminist sociological research, activism and scholars. SWS is a nonprofit, scientific and educational organization with members in the U.S. and overseas. Its mission is to promote and disseminate research about women; educate colleagues, the general public, and government officials about the implications of research on women; offer help and mutual support to women and men who share the organization's concerns; take political action to improve women's lives; and maintain relationships with national and international organizations for women and the ending of discrimination against women.

The International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) is pleased to call for pre-proposal applications for its 2013 Graduate Student Fellowships for Alternatives to the Use of Animals in Science. The fellowships provide up to $12,500 annually in stipendiary support and up to $2,500 for supplies per year. The fellowships are renewable annually for up to three years. Continued funding is dependent on student progress and availability of funds.

Within the framework of the For Women in Science partnership between the L'Oréal Foundation and UNESCO, we are launching the 2014 call for nominations for outstanding women scientist form all over the world. Five 100.000$ prizes will be awarded in march 2014 in Paris to five women scientists, one per region, for the contributions of their research, the strength of their commitments and their impact on society. An international Jury of eminent scientists presided in 2013 by the Nobel Prize winner, Ahmed Zewali, makes the final selection.

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program. This solicitation features two mechanisms for support of student research: (1) REU Sites are based on independent proposals to initiate and conduct projects that engage a number of students in research. REU Sites may be based in a single discipline or academic department or may offer interdisciplinary or multi-department research opportunities with a coherent intellectual theme. Proposals with an international dimension are welcome. (2) REU Supplements may be included as a component of proposals for new or renewal NSF grants or cooperative agreements or may be requested for ongoing NSF-funded research projects.

The OCRP Teal Innovator Award supports a visionary individual from any field principally outside of, but not exclusive of, ovarian cancer to focus his/her creativity, innovation, and leadership on ovarian cancer research. The Teal Innovator Award will provide the Principal Investigator (PI) with the funding and freedom to pursue his/her most novel, visionary, high-risk ideas that could significantly impact the field of ovarian cancer research or patient care. The proposed Teal Innovator must be highly recognized in his/her field and present evidence of this recognition. Examples include, but are not limited to, recognition at the level of endowed chair; membership in the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, or Institute of Medicine; Chairmanship of the American Association for Cancer Research; or other national or international recognition.

The purpose of the program is to identify international cancer control practices that can be applied to our domestic programs. Program activities will focus on 1) the establishment or strengthening of high quality cancer registries through establishment of centers for excellence in U.S. territories and other CDC global focus regions, 2) technical exchanges between CDC and the awardee, 3) consultations from global experts to help inform CDC's priority cancer activities, and 4) collaboration on the development and dissemination of monographs and other publications that promote evidence-based prevention for cervical (and other HPV-related), breast, lung, skin, colorectal and other types of cancer. Together, these activities represent an important opportunity for CDC to strengthen its programs in cancer prevention and control.

In 2017, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will invest $12.8 million in innovative research related to pancreatic cancer, a 33 percent increase over 2016. This investment includes both the network's competitive, peer-reviewed Research Grants Program and its internal research initiatives. To that end, the network has issued an RFA for its Early Detection Targeted Grant program, through which grants of up to $1 million over four years will be awarded to support ancillary research studies that identify promising blood biomarkers or imaging approaches with the potential to facilitate the use of specimens and/or participants in a cohort of new-onset diabetics and to validate components of a protocol for the early detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

The American Association for Cancer Research established this award in 2007 in honor of Margaret Foti, Ph.D., M.D. (h.c.), for her exemplary leadership of the AACR as its chief executive officer; for her sustained, outstanding work in fostering research, scholarly communications, education and training, science policy and public education; and for her extraordinary dedication and contributions to the conquest of cancer. This award recognizes a true champion of cancer research, an individual who embodies the sustained commitment of Margaret Foti to the prevention and cure of cancer. The award is given to an individual whose leadership and extraordinary achievements in cancer research or in support of cancer research have made a major impact on the field. Such achievements include contributions to the acceleration of progress in cancer research, raising national or international awareness of cancer research, or other demonstrations of a sustained commitment to the conquest of cancer.

Award: $500 certificate for ONS educational resources/publications donated to the recipient's employer institution. (No cash prize to the individual recipient), a plaque, and travel reimbursement to attend the Opening Ceremonies at ONS Congress. Purpose: To recognize a Registered Nurse (RN) (or equivalent) who has contributed to the improvement of cancer care in a country outside the United States.

The L'Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program is a national awards program that annually recognizes and rewards five U.S.-based women researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers. Recipients receive up to $60,000 each that they must put towards their postdoctoral research. The program's partner, AAAS, manages the peer-review process. Launched in 2003 as the U.S. Fellowships component of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Fellowship program, the program aim to: Raise awareness of the contribution of women to the sciences Identify exceptional female researchers in the U.S. to serve as role models for younger generations An inter-disciplinary panel of scientists reviews all applications submitted. The top candidates chosen by the review panel are then forwarded for final selection to a distinguished Jury of career scientists and former North American L'ORÉAL-UNESCO For Women in Science Laureates. The Jury seeks candidates with exceptional academic records and intellectual merit, clearly articulated research proposals with the potential for scientific advancement and outstanding letters of recommendation from advisers. New to the program this year, applicants will also be evaluated in part on their commitment to supporting women and girls in science.

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation supports research on innovative strategies for better treatments, screening, and prevention of all cancers of the lung. The foundation's goal is to fund promising scientific and clinical research initiatives that lead to more positive outcomes and improved quality of life for all lung cancer patients.   To that end, LCRF has issued a Request for Proposals designed to provide critical seed support for cutting-edge scientific research on all lung cancers. Through its Research Grant program, the foundation will support projects with a focus on basic science, translational research, clinical research, supportive care, and quality of care/outcomes.   Grants of up to $75,000 will be awarded.   The program is open to all U.S. and international investigators, including graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, physicians, medical students, and nurse researchers.

The overarching goal of the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program (BCERP) is to support integrated scientific research to enhance our understanding of environmental and genetic factors underlying breast cancer risk. This funding opportunity will support a Coordinating Center, which together with a group of individual transdisciplinary projects investigating the influence of environmental exposures during specific time windows on breast cancer risk, will form the BCERP Consortium. The BCERP Coordinating Center will provide intellectual leadership as well as logistic support for the BCERP Consortium. A primary role of the BCERP Coordinating Center will be to identify opportunities for cross-BCERP collaborations and extend the transdisciplinary activities of the BCERP Consortium. The Coordinating Center will also assist in disseminating BCERP research findings and facilitating an internal evaluation of the Consortium.

Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.
