The Environmental Health Specialists Network (EHS-Net) is a collaborative forum of environmental health specialists who work together to improve environmental health practice. EHS-Net seeks to improve the practice of environmental health service programs by developing and sustaining a network of environmental health specialists (EHS) who collaborate with epidemiologists, laboratorians and other public health professionals to conduct practice-based research to identify and prevent environmental risk factors contributing to foodborne illness. The purpose of this FOA is to support CDC's Global Disease Detection (GDD) Program in Uzbekistan in its efforts to strengthen local capacity to combat anti-microbial resistance.

This funding opportunity announcement in support of the Human Placenta Project (HPP) aims to support the initial stages of development of entirely new or next-generation placental imaging and assessment technologies and methods that will increase our capability to safely assess human placental structure and function in vivo throughout gestation.

More widely distribute funding among the nation's highly talented and promising investigators to increase overall scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs. Reduce the time spent by researchers writing and reviewing grant applications, allowing them to spend more time conducting research. Enable principal investigators to devote more time and energy to mentoring junior scientists in a more stable research environment. The purpose of this FOA is to test the feasibility of this grant mechanism through a pilot program with restricted eligibility.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications that use a multi-disciplinary systems biology approach to study the molecular interaction networks of the pathogen and the host in association with antibacterial resistance or in response to treatment of antibacterial resistant infections. The application's focus must be on bacterial pathogens with established antibacterial resistance. This FOA will not support applications focused on drug-resistant tuberculosis.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications from institutions/organizations that propose to build research infrastructure to promote external collaboration with the medical rehabilitation community. The aim of this FOA is to create a national network of research cores that provide access to collateral expertise in biomedical, behavioral, engineering, and/or psychosocial fields that is particularly relevant to medical rehabilitation research. We are particularly interested in supporting infrastructure programs in clinical trial design, engineering and the environment, individualized medical rehabilitation and dynamic reassessment, and applied behavioral supports for rehabilitation research and healthy outcomes. However, other areas of expertise may be proposed provided they offer unique research opportunities and have potential for promoting medical rehabilitation research and improving outcomes for people with disabilities. In response to this FOA, applicants should propose a program of research resources and collaborative opportunities in a specific research domain. This may be accomplished through a workshops, written material, and websites, consultations, collaborations, and pilot funding. In addition, the research core may support activities within the grantee institution related to technique development, adaptation, and validation. To accomplish the aims of the FOA, applicants may propose collaborations to other institutional sites, provided that they cover the appropriate administrative and logistical issues.

The John Merck Fund has had a longstanding interest in people with intellectual and developmental disorders since its inception in 1970.  In 2012, JMF launched the Developmental Disabilities Translational Research Program, which supports researchers in developing treatments and improving outcomes for individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome (and FX associated disorders).  The awards are made to the most highly innovative translational research projects that have the greatest potential of investigating rational and effective treatments and interventions for the particular condition being addressed.  The program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaborative grant applications focused primarily on FXS and DS, but the program supports studies focused on other developmental disabilities under special circumstances.  The Fund is particularly interested in translational research that is designed to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families.  Investigators from a range of disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The third annual Lupus Insight Prize, presented in a collaboration among the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR), the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) and the Lupus Research Institute (LRI), will be awarded by the three organizations to recognize and honor an outstanding investigator with a documented record of creativity, innovation and productivity. The researcher will also be someone who has made a novel insight and/or discovery in an area of research that is applicable to the pathogenesis or treatment of lupus and is judged to have a high likelihood of generating further advances by applying that insight to lupus.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to allow for investigator-initiated research that will further the understanding of potential risk factors for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), while supporting the goals of the National ALS Registry.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) announces the availability of funds for Administrative Supplements to NIGMS-funded R01, R37, P01, and U01 grants.  These funds are intended for the purchase of single pieces of equipment whose requested direct costs are between $50,000 and $250,000. Equipment in this price range is often difficult to purchase under the parent grant.  Two or more NIGMS grantees at the same institution with similar equipment needs are encouraged to submit separate requests (each between $50,000 and $250,000) that cross-reference each other.  It is expected that the amount of funds requested for such joint purchases will reflect the actual proportion of the time that the shared equipment would be used by each PI.  NIGMS encourages requests that reflect institutional commitment.

The goal of this funding announcement is to establish a sustainable network of US institutions that can obtain hospitalization data and provide accurate estimates of annual influenza vaccine effectiveness (VE) to preventinfluenza-associated hospitalizations in US adult populations. Participating institutions will coordinate enrollment of adult hospitalized patients with acute respiratory illness (ARI), confirm influenza infection using sensitive laboratory-based molecular assays, and estimate VE using a test-negative study design.

OASH/ National Vaccine Program Office (NVPO) provides strategic direction for the coordination of the vaccine and immunization enterprise through the National Vaccine Plan (NVP) implementation. NVPO specifically provides guidance and coordination for all vaccine safety systems, activities and research studies in the U.S. through the Immunization Safety Task Force (ISTF). While engaging vaccine safety stakeholders through the ISTF, NVPO is able to identify gaps in vaccine safety monitoring and research. NVPO has launched this pilot cooperative agreement program to partner with an organization to conduct research that will strengthen the current U.S. vaccine safety enterprise. The program's objective is to conduct research in vaccine safety related areas, specifically, but not limited to, determining the safety profile of new vaccines during the early development stage, developing or modifying existing vaccines to improve their safety, conducting applied research that will have a direct impact on the current vaccine safety monitoring system, conducting research that will achieve consensus definitions of vaccine safety outcomes that could be utilized to collect consensus data in clinical research conducted globally.NVPO is particularly interested in projects related to researching, establishing or testing the vaccine safety profile of vaccines that are currently recommended for or are expected to be routinely administered to pregnant women and/or newborns. Topics of research may cover establishing the safety of a vaccine in either the pregnant women, her newborn or both, at any stage of the vaccine development, testing and/or pre-clinical or clinical research and monitoring of vaccine safety.
